Am I the only person who didn’t see the norther lights?

I live in Reading but didnt bother to go outside cause I assumed light pollution would prevent me from seeing anything. Plus I have an elderly cat that tends to bolt out the door.

Sad that I missed it as it is all over social media.

No I didn’t either. I was asleep lol. Hopping to see them tonight (I’m right on the south coast and there were amazing pictures from down here).

AdoraBell · 11/05/2024 20:59

No, I didn’t see them.

Kneeslikethese · 11/05/2024 20:59

There's a chance to see them tonight too if it's clear.
I didn't see them, went out at 11pm but too much light pollution where I am.

MoreSettingsAvailable · 11/05/2024 20:59

I didn’t. I knew it was happening. But I had zero interest and prefer my bed!

MiniCooperLover · 11/05/2024 20:59

I went to bed at 10am ... everyone else in my neighbourhood has posted pics at midnight that are amazing 🤷

ErrolTheDragon · 11/05/2024 21:00

We didn't because we were too tired...regretting it now as we're in Northumberland and it would have been properly dark here.

silverfullmoon · 11/05/2024 21:00

Nope, I was knackered so feel asleep. I have a bit of FOMO now lol

TheChippendenSpook · 11/05/2024 21:00

I didn't. I was already in bed when I realised and I'd been up since 3:30am for work. I am a bit sad about it though.

OnehundredStars · 11/05/2024 21:01

I was out (we had a nighttime local charity walk) and I could only see steaks but when you put your camera on they are amazing ( but not to the eye alone)

Ok I feel better then. I’ve lost my glasses so probably wouldn’t have been able to see anyway

Ah good, then I guess we're just as well off looking at other people's photos!Grin

TuesdayWhistler · 11/05/2024 21:04

I poked me head out the window, didn't see fuck all, went back in and watched the telly.

I mean ,yes, I suppose I should try and see it for myself etc.. But.. there ain't no way my actual view would be anywhere near as good as the professional photos I've seen.

CrunchyCarrot · 11/05/2024 21:04

No you're not OP. Had cloud cover where I am so saw nothing!

NahNeedsGarlic · 11/05/2024 21:05

I didn’t realise they were happening until about 2am (yes, I live under a rock). You couldn’t see anything here by then, but I’ve seen local photos from earlier in the evening that were great. I will try tonight, assuming the clouds disappear.

80skid · 11/05/2024 21:05

I was in bed at 9pm. Missed everything. Some amazing pictures about!

LizzieBennett73 · 11/05/2024 21:07

I stupidly took some painkillers after pulling a muscle in my back, so didn't see past 9pm. And I'm a really keen photographer.

The sky is clearing here tonight so I'm slightly hopeful.... ! Gloucestershire.

SabreIsMyFave · 11/05/2024 21:07

Me, DH, and both DD and their partners all saw it. But we all know a few people who didn't see it. I have 2 sets of neighbours - a family of 5, and a couple with a 3 y.o. who are in Greece, and Florida, and they all missed it. All have posted on facebook saying they're gutted!

Both DD have several friends who had gone to bed, or were in another country, or just in the house reading a book, (with their phone in another room on DND,) and they missed it. Most people I know did see it though.

Start looking North/North East from about 10pm tonight @Trycod There is a strong chance that it will happen again tonight. Possibly even tomorrow too!

FoleyHuck · 11/05/2024 21:07

We're in Jersey so I assumed we'd be too far south and didn't bother. Turns out I assumed wrong. A small chance still tonight and it is very clear so DH and I are going to drive up to the north coast where there's no light pollution later and see what we can (or can't) see.

Timetodownsize · 11/05/2024 21:08

Im in Aberdeenshire and didn't see it

Noname1000 · 11/05/2024 21:10

I was asleep. Story of my life.

RoseBucket · 11/05/2024 21:12

Just remember to take photos into the dark sky, even if you can’t see it, your camera might. A neighbour complained she didn’t see anything at the same time a load of is were taking photos.

SoupDragon · 11/05/2024 21:13

I didn't even know about it 😂😂

Queenfierce · 11/05/2024 21:13

I didn't see them either

Trycod · 11/05/2024 21:13

Downloaded an app which sends notifications. Fingers crossed for everyone wanting to make up for FOMO

I looked out the window at half eleven last night and saw some stars and a bit of what I thought was cloud. Apparently I should have looked through my phone because it was actually wonderful pink and green. But I didn't see it so went to bed. Cloudy here tonight 😖
