Am I the only person who didn’t see the norther lights?

I live in Reading but didnt bother to go outside cause I assumed light pollution would prevent me from seeing anything. Plus I have an elderly cat that tends to bolt out the door.

Sad that I missed it as it is all over social media.

This is the best I have to offer after almost breaking my ankle skipping up the garden!

That's looking north. Dark skies place here. Alexa said sunset was 8.42pm so may still be glow from the sun setting.

There you go

Love that!! Better than mine!!!

Starlightstarbright3 · 11/05/2024 22:21

Obviously you’re not . I have been working today … many many people didn’t see them . They were telling me . Of about 12 staff - 2 saw them

I am tired as I stayed up late despite having work today

Lisapillar · 11/05/2024 22:23

I can see the moon. Not much else going on here. Very clear sky though.

I saw them but with your eyes, they are nothing like the photos. I saw hazy colours dancing round the sky which was still amazing but through a camera, the colours were so much more intense. Nobody say the colours you see online with their eyes!

I saw them last night, this was the most accurate looking photo I took, I took a few others which really exaggerated what the eye could see but I tried to switch everything off on my phone to reduce all the enhancing and it looked like this photo, way more impressive on a camera (and more so on an actual camera rather than a phone!). Essentially, don’t feel too much fomo, it wasn’t that impressive in real life!!
In fact even the photo attached looks more vibrant than it appeared in the sky…

Re your pic at 21.50. Yeah the pic you took are a bit like mine. And it's a better representation than some of the dayglo ones on the internet! But I don't think you will make people feel any better. People are still upset that they missed it and would like to have seen it. (Even if it did look a bit more dampened down like yours.) I saw it a bit better than the image in your pic, but I am in a dark rural area.)

Nothing here yet. (North Midlands.) I think your pic is the sun setting.

SabreIsMyFave · 11/05/2024 22:34

I got almost that exact image @catlady7 Grin

So did my DD - in a town 17 miles away!

It's so weird, and lovely that we were all looking at exactly the same thing at the same time, over half the world! 😍

Except the OP. Hence the reason for this thread, to find people who DIDN'T see them.

SoupDragon · 11/05/2024 23:30

Been up to a spot with a good view north... nothing, despite the app saying it was a "red alert".

stayathomegardener · 11/05/2024 23:34

Nothing in Cheshire so far.

LadyThistledown · 11/05/2024 23:39

nothing near werneth low!

RogersOrganismicProcess · 11/05/2024 23:43

Nothing in Merseyside, I’m beginning to think my eyes might be broken. I could never do magic eye pictures either.

It would be far easier if the colours were accompanied by tinkly bells!

GlitteryUnicornSparkles · 11/05/2024 23:56

I had no idea it was happening so remained tucked up in bed, oblivious! Gutted, some great shots near me. Praying I see them tonight, I’m at work but we’re in the country side so not too much light pollution. 🤞

SnowFrogJelly · 11/05/2024 23:59

I missed as on holiday 🥲

MolkosTeenageAngst · 12/05/2024 00:02

I went out and saw them but there wasn’t much to see, the sky had some very pale pink and greenish streaks visible but nothing amazing, if I hadn’t known the northern lights were out and had looked at the sky I wouldn’t have really even noticed the sky looked a bit different and I have seen much better colours in the sky at sunset! I didn’t know that they would look better through a camera so didn’t use that trick but it has made me realise most of the photos on social media aren’t what the sky actually looked like to the naked eye!

crackofdoom · 12/05/2024 00:03

I've just weaved back from the pub, exploring every dark cul de sac away from all the light pollution (tried the playing field and some fucker has a 20000 watt security light right in the field of vision- for what I have no idea, this is a ridiculously low crime area 🙄). Finally tried down the end of my own road, where the streetlights run out, accompanied by the cats. Fucking nothing.

(Cornwall. It was bloody dolphins last time).

Tintackedsea · 12/05/2024 00:25

We see them very frequently but this was the BEST EVER EVER EVER.

We went out.

Couldn't see owt.

Went home and ate doughnuts and watched the telly.

Woke up to 50,000 photos from friends and family and neighbours.

Doughnuts were epic but.

XenoBitch · 12/05/2024 00:32

Am in Wiltshire, so not sure if they made it this far.

I don't have FOMO, so I don't care really.

pizzaHeart · 12/05/2024 00:35

SoupDragon · 11/05/2024 21:13

I didn't even know about it 😂😂

Me too 😢

uncomfortablydumb53 · 12/05/2024 01:22

I'm in Wiltshire and B didn't see anything but my DS3 8 miles away in Wiltshire took some amazing photos apparently. Such is life

diddl · 12/05/2024 08:12

I also missed them as was too cloudy here.

Kept looking again last night but I think too much surrounding light🙁

Nothing happening tonight is there?
