Just read this on another AIBU thread. I've never seen any stats but I'm always very keen on getting facts into MN threads so I'm intrigued by this one.

I figured we could get a general idea here.

IABU - of course I am in the 60-75 age bracket
IANBU - nah I'm younger / older than that.

I’m in my 40s. Based on what I read here I’d say those ‘facts’ aren’t true.

ASighMadeOfStone · 10/05/2024 07:36

I would say whoever is saying that is making it up.
As are most people who begin a sentence with "facts are"
It's a useful hint that they very very likely are not.

SuspectedInsomniac · 10/05/2024 07:38

30's here.

I would have guessed the most common age on mn would be 30's and 40's.

Fairysteps11 · 10/05/2024 07:39

I'm in my 30s!

ASighMadeOfStone · 10/05/2024 07:41

I'd agree with 30s-40s.
I joined over 20 years ago so posters like me are obviously significantly older, but surely the majority of people find parenting sites at the point in their lives when they are becoming parents.

If I'd never found it then, I certainly wouldn't click on a parenting site now.

sunnydaysanddaydreams · 10/05/2024 07:43

PickupaPension · 10/05/2024 07:43

50’s here.

Zonder · 10/05/2024 07:45

For full disclosure I'm in my 50s.

Can't vote on the app 😡
I'm in my 50s and would disagree. I often feel old and old-fashioned on AIBU

Exactly this! As most people's posts are about working, young kids or mother in law issues, I would assume the majority of posters are in their child-bearing years rather than heading for retirement.

BreakingAndBroke · 10/05/2024 07:47

42

emmetgirl · 10/05/2024 07:49

Late 50s here

strawberryjeans · 10/05/2024 07:52

Mid twenties

AGlinnerOfHope · 10/05/2024 07:54

Mid fifties.

But were they referring to the OP or the people commenting?

Bigredpants · 10/05/2024 07:56

I think the answer is 42

I'd think the age of internet dominance crossing with peak parenting age would mean most users were younger than me, mid 50s.

Bjorkdidit · 10/05/2024 07:57

facts are that 78.2% of statistics are made up on the spot. Or don't stand up to any kind of basic scrutiny.

Allfur · 10/05/2024 07:59

Given that lots of threads are about women doing the brunt of childcare, I'm guessing most are younger than 60!

BarcardiWithGadaffia · 10/05/2024 08:05

I don't know how many posts there are in a day, thousands maybe, how will a few tandoms posting their age which may or may may not be correct tell you any facts?

I'm sure MN collect data based on what posters put on their profiles but again who knows if that's correct

Having said that I'd be prepared to wager that no way are the majority of posters over 60, common sense would tell you that

Anonymouseposter · 10/05/2024 08:05

I am in the older age group and I think there are a few of us but I would guess the average poster is between 30 and 55. I found the site accidentally when googling things to do with grandchildren in the holidays. It’s good to have opinions from a wide range of people so we aren’t all posting into an echo chamber. I guess someone made up the statistic because a poster disagreed with them ( stood up for a MIL or said triple lock on pensions should remain or something).

It's a straw poll. Quick rough idea. I'm not going to base a PhD on it. Totally agree with your two points there though.

People who understand that JK Rowling isn't a massive bigot.

I hear the OP's title in the voice of Anna from W1A
