"facts are the average age for an AIBU poster is 60-75"

Just read this on another AIBU thread. I've never seen any stats but I'm always very keen on getting facts into MN threads so I'm intrigued by this one.

I figured we could get a general idea here.

IABU - of course I am in the 60-75 age bracket
IANBU - nah I'm younger / older than that.

I love W1A and of course Siobhan in particular.
She's so wonderfully... useless.
( and supposed to be early 30s or thereabouts 😇)

Oh yes, good name!
I thought she had something - a sense of what was fun maybe - that they did actually need, but just wrapped up in a load of bollocks. (what an image).
I love how Perfect Curve's idea for branding the BBC actually basically happened:

BBC Three “takes inspiration” from spoof show W1A in rebrand

Red Bee Media has designed a new logo for BBC Three, which sees the word “three” replaced with a symbol. The entire BBC brand has been repositioned with a new logo, idents and animations all…

@Zonder sorry for derailing! Derail over - I need to focus on work and not get distracted by mumsnet!

Might it be because they’re referred to as “biddies”? 🤔

I'd just like to point out that I don't query your figures because they're sexist or ageist. I query them because they don't seem accurate to me based on my experience so I would like to actually see the facts. Not what someone declared to be fact!

No they can't. If they were in fact the stats.

But as far as I understand it, the issue here is not the age of posters but the fact the person making the age claim did not have the statistics, they did not have the actual figures. They did not have the evidence. They made a claim based not on facts but on their perception of posters responses and deciding how old they must be based on their views but without any evidence to verify that claim.

That is what's ageist.

You can't see the difference?

Edited

Well put.

Maybe you can explain for the aged amongst us how the collection of cookies allows age to be identified?

pointythings · 10/05/2024 11:13

I'm 56.

Happy for the derail - I'm going to stick this on my to watch list if I can find it somewhere.

Tommyrot! I'm 33. But I don't think I've posted on AIBU.

pensione · 10/05/2024 12:24

I think most AIBU posters are 50+.

Zonder · 10/05/2024 12:34

You have commented though @KellyMaureen ☺️

Possibly. I would guess 35-55. It's just guesswork though, isn't it?

It will be because we also google orthopaedic shoes and purple shampoo, I bet.

LauderSyme · 10/05/2024 13:23

The cookie equivalents of 'Easylife' catalogues are unmasking us - or is that just you? 😉

Purple shampoo is very much a thing for the younger ladies now. It tones down that unwanted brassy blondeness nicely 💜

Zonder · 10/05/2024 14:08

Do you think all my research into stannah stair lifts has affected my cookies?

OP posts:
pointythings · 10/05/2024 14:18

If all this obsessing over age continues, I'm going to toss my cookies.

AGlinnerOfHope · 10/05/2024 16:07

Strangely 5/10 years ago I was all about orthopaedic shoes and mobility aids. Now I’m all about makeup and hair products. Am I living backwards I wonder?

You must be one of us too-old-to-understand folk with the hastily receding IQ.

KreedKafer · 10/05/2024 16:17

As far as I’m aware, Mumsnet doesn’t collect age data when people register for the site. Therefore nobody, not even the Mumsnet company itself, has the faintest idea who old anyone posting on the site is. Anyone saying they have factual data on this is a blustering bullshitter.

Zonder · 10/05/2024 16:17

So I emailed MN to ask if there was any basis to the PPs comments - not that ai think the pp was right but I wondered if they had misread or misconstrued something.

Interesting reply - said it's best to ignore that poster as they have deleted their posts anyway.

So I think we have our answer. We are all bright young things.

Well I'm older than I've ever been before

lazyarse123 · 10/05/2024 16:40

I am a geriatric 66year old and I think going by the absolute hatred towards pensioners sometimes on here that we are outnumbered by younger folk. A lot of posters do defend us old people which is lovely but it's obvious from what they say that they are relatively young.

And me. I’ve always seen MN as a female site, various ages, some are parents, some not.

Gransnet is the same - many younger people post on that.

In a dusty book on a shelf halfway up their arse, I presume.
