Vegan wedding

Would it be asshole-ish of me to smuggle babybels in my handbag?

The menu looks very tiny, and I don't intend to eat it in front of anyone, just find a dark corner. It's the only meal at the whole event.

I did think of peperami but it's vile and stinky.

And to the 'it's just one fucking meal. Get over it. Grow up!' posters. It's not just one meal. A lot of weddings are 10 hours or more long now, so you are stuck with this fucking putrid vegan shit all day.

"Putrid"? Really?

Why is a meal that lacks animal products classed as putrid?

Is beans on toast putrid?

Obviously you have a life so vacant and lacking in stress you get that wound up by someone having a different opinion to you 🤷‍♀️

There is no need to resort to insults because someone has a different opinion to you. I respect your opinion to eat/enjoy vegan food, respect for others opinions is not your strong point.

Exactly this. Some posters here getting hilariously butthurt and arsey and snippy - because other people don't want to be eating vegan food all day. Get over it! Deal with it! Grow up! Other people have different opinions to you! 🙄

Don’t go then.

I knew this daft question would come up! It always does on vegan food debates! 😂

Beans on toast is lovely, especially if the toast is buttered. But the vegan crap that we were dished up at that wedding 2 years ago was putrid vegan shit. That a good enough answer? 🙄

(I don't care much if it isn't.)

Why are you - and some other posters so fiercely defensive of vegan food? SO odd! 😆 Why do you give a shit what some randomer on the internet thinks?!

Some posters on here are getting bizarrely angry and irked that some people think differently to them! Weird! Confused

fucking putrid vegan shit

I find this kind of response incredibly immature and narrow-minded.

This thread has blown my mind. Surely most people have the occasional vegan meal without realising eg baked potato with baked beans. It’s really not necessary to have meat with every single meal.

It is also about how the food is cooked. I have had amazing Indian vegan meals which I would choose over a bland chicken breast and mash any day of the week.

I am not vegan. I fucking love meat.

But I am fine being served vegan food, as not having meat is not an ethical thing for me... like having meat would be an ethical thing for a vegan.

Pleiades2020 · 05/05/2024 22:10

NoTouch · 05/05/2024 22:01

Good hosts will want to choose food most of their guests will enjoy, not intentionally choose a menu a significant portion of guests will not.

If their diet choices mean more to them than being a good host, knowing it might leave guests hungry, then their choice.

Precisely, and the hosts are doing that by providing an excellent meal. It just happens to not contain meat.

I don't understand why you - or anyone else - cares so much about my views and opinions. I don't care about anyone else's.

I don’t think I’ve been to a wedding where the food was not shit. Except for the Indian wedding which was vegetarian curry, and lots of it. Plus an ice cream van 😂

crap, dry, bulk catered chicken is never great. I don’t know why people are so attached to it.

weddings are boring, food is crap. We go to support the couple, not to experience fine dining.

I have been to weddings where the food was shite anyway... and it wasn't vegan.

The food is a small part. I go to weddings to see people I care about tie the knot, and help in celebrating their day.

It’s just a discussion. Most people don’t give it a second thought irl. Like lots of topics here. I don’t really see ‘fiercely defensive’. I see most people giving a reasoned argument. I am not a vegan either.

You seem to be using lots of capitals and exclamation marks so seem more het up than most posters here discussing the topic. Maybe that’s just your posting style.

Pancakee · 05/05/2024 22:15

I would be excited to be invited to a vegan wedding. Some of the best meals I have had lately have been in vegan restaurants. Terre a Terre in Brighton is my favourite restaurant at the moment. So much more exciting than meat and veg.

The food at most weddings is average and bland. Including mine which had meat! Vegetarian curry would have been far nicer.

I’d never go to a wedding again then if acceptance was based on food quality 😂

652needtogetup · 05/05/2024 22:17

I went to a vegan wedding a couple of years ago and it was the best food I've ever had (at a wedding), they'd gone to so much trouble and I wouldn't have actually guessed most of it was vegan. I'm sure you can suck it up for an evening. FFS.

They're not inflicting their beliefs. Guests who aren't vegan can actually eat vegan food without contravening their own beliefs. A meat eater can eat meat, fish, dairy and plant based meals. There's no conflict. Deliberately risking upset to the bride and groom at their wedding, however, is insulating and not on.

As I said earlier, I very much doubt the invitation banned guests from bringing snacks. This thread is madness. I also doubt the bride and groom will be checking peoples bags for babybels 😂

BigMandyHarris · 05/05/2024 23:21

Yes, it would be asshole-ish, and you know it.
