Vegan wedding

Would it be asshole-ish of me to smuggle babybels in my handbag?

The menu looks very tiny, and I don't intend to eat it in front of anyone, just find a dark corner. It's the only meal at the whole event.

I did think of peperami but it's vile and stinky.

Would the people saying they’re inflicting their belief system on OP feel the same if they went to a Jewish wedding which was Kosher or a Hindu wedding that didn’t serve beef? Surely when you go to an event you respect the hosts belief system?

I'm not sure I'd worry about the food not containing pork and snuggle in a few ribs.

Or not containing no halal meat, assuming I happy to eat halal, but if I wasn't, yes i would ask for alternative food or bring my own if the hosts refused to help.

I would not go hungry.

I’ve been to a Hindu wedding - you do not go hungry. OP wouldn’t need a snack 😂😂

Francisflute · 05/05/2024 18:41

Who takes snacks to a wedding (unless medical need, pregnant, 2 years old)? There will be catering. Just get on with it.

SavingTheBestTillLast · 05/05/2024 18:41

MasterBeth · 05/05/2024 18:40

The answer to "vegan snacks are bland" is not "Babybel".

The bland leading the bland.

Oh the irony!
🤣🤣🤣🤣

muggart · 05/05/2024 18:41

why? It’s not gonna kill you to feel hungry @LuckySantangelo35

No but I might get hangry and kill someone else.

Or, perhaps more realistically, start to feel weak and need to sit down when I'd rather be enjoying the wedding.

We all have different needs. I'm a 6 meals (or snacks) a day type of person, with a borderline underweight BMI. I really struggle with energy if I don't have frequent access to food.

bloodyplumbing · 05/05/2024 18:42

@MasterBeth is the answer salami?

I think we’re living in crazy times when people are so picky and spoilt that they can’t cope for a few hours without a specific food.

People talking about bringing ‘snacks’ to weddings in their handbags like they’re going on an outing with a toddler really need to grow up.

I love meat, fish and dairy. But I can also go without them for one day of my life because I’m a fucking adult.

It's. A. Piece. Of. Cheese ffs

Francisflute · 05/05/2024 18:42

And yes, weddings are based around the couple's belief system. It's somewhat implied.

Hugosmaid · 05/05/2024 18:43

‘why? It’s not gonna kill you to feel hungry @LuckySantangelo35

‘No but I might get hangry and kill someone else'

Ha ha ha ha - you win todays MN for me 😂😂

notprincehamlet · 05/05/2024 15:40

Could you wear the babybels as earrings? Hidden in plain sight. Maybe fashion a brooch out of a pasty? And a marmalade sandwich under your hat?

This wins the thread. 😂. Like Paddington Bear 😍. God this has cheered me up no end ♥️

Marmalade sandwiches are vegan too 😂. Paddington was a vegan. Who knew 😊

Mairzydotes · 05/05/2024 18:44

Are you taking the car to the venue? I often have snacks in the car at weddings, it's usually a long day

ChurchOfSeitan · 05/05/2024 18:46

SwingTheMonkey · 05/05/2024 18:34

Why should they though? I’m sure they won’t be flaunting it in people’s faces?

It’s fine to take a non vegan snack if you’re discreet. The hosts are vegan and therefore serving a vegan meal. That doesn’t mean guests are required to be vegan themselves all day.

Because a lot of ‘normal’ snacks are already vegan. A lot of biscuits are vegan as are a lot of crisps. Someone mentioned bringing a doughnut to prove a point instead but a lot of commercially produced donuts are vegan.

The fact the OP specifically mentioned baby bel just shows she is trying to get a rise out of people.

spookehtooth · 05/05/2024 18:46

@Ohdear1991 Vitamin B12 actually comes from the soil, given your claims I thought you would know that. The only difference with animal sources is the ease with which it is taken up in our digestive system.

Literally nothing a body needs originates in animals, including the bodies of carnivores. What makes a true (obligate) carnivore is what the processes within their body allow them to process and digest. They eat other animals not because there are no other sources, but because meat is the only thing they're able to process. We're not carnivores, not even close, we have a choice

ReadtheReviews · 05/05/2024 18:46

Are you one of those people who takes their favourite food on holiday OP? I would expect they've hired caterers who will provide a normal amount of wedding food?

I think you r missed the point of the thread Grin

KitchenSinkLlama · 05/05/2024 18:47

Having been vegan most of my life I find threads like this bizarre.

Riapia · 05/05/2024 18:48

If it’s going to be a strictly vegan occasion they will be expecting some people to not attend.

ChurchOfSeitan · 05/05/2024 18:49

Did the OP actually post the menu?

Most crisps have milk in. I've had to go dairy free as my daughter has a dairy allergy. So very limited

A lot of people assume a meal has to contain meat to be filling. It's very strange, I haven't starved in almost 30 years not eating it.

It feels like a very dated attitude to need meat with every meal. And I say that as an omnivore.

Yes it would be incredibly twatish and disrespectful. I mean, JEEZ....you can't go a single day without animal products?

90% of what you eat is probably vegan and you can't think of a more appropriate snack?
Vegans aren't trying to piss you off, we are just living by our ethics and I for one would be really excited to see what amazing vegan dishes they come up with.
Vegans have been attending weddings and leaving hungry for decades so grow a pair, suck it up and "try" and live without your cheese for a day OP. You may actually find the food incredible amd decide to make some more ethical culinary decisions yourself, who knows??

Some crisps have milk in however it is certainly not common in my experience.. I would say the vast majority of crisps are fine for vegan and I say that as a crisp addicted vegan.

A lot of crisps have a may contain warning for milk allergy sufferers however that is not the same as milk being an actual ingredient however.

Unfortunately my daughter reacts to main contain. Have to be very strict. I really hope she grows out of it. Hate seeing her in so much pain.

Went to vegetarian BBQ a couple of years ago. Me and a friend stopped at McDonald's on the way first!
Can't you 'fill up' before you go?
