To think no one is testing for Covid anymore?

A work colleague has just messaged our team WhatsApp in a bit of a rant as they've got Covid. They are blaming it on someone who came into the office earlier this week with a blatant heavy cold thing. Colleague with cold is saying that they don't think it's Covid, but haven't tested and don't plan to, and that Covid colleague could have got it from anywhere.

It's now going into an argument about testing - a couple of people are still testing any time they get cold symptoms, but most are saying they won't bother. Covid colleague says we all need to test now as we were all in on Monday together for a meeting.

AIBU to think no one is testing anymore, and it's not necessary?

YANBU we are 4 years down the line now!

OutOfTheHouse · 24/04/2024 22:32

I tested a little while ago because I was feeling like crap and about to go on holiday. When I asked in the pharmacy for Covid tests the looked surprised and only had one box left.

Flopsythebunny · 24/04/2024 22:32

There are thousands of CEV people who are still testing, some are even still shielding completely or only going to medical appointments

RampantIvy · 24/04/2024 22:33

DH did yesterday as he has a cold and had a GP appointment and didn't want to turn up at the surgery with covid. It was negative.

ThisKookyBlueSnake · 24/04/2024 22:34

I still test. I like to know what I've got.

Misthios · 24/04/2024 22:34

No we haven't tested for ages, at least 18 months. No tests left, no requirement to test.

SoupDragon · 24/04/2024 22:36

DS only tested last time he had Covid because we had the tests left over.

if we feel ill, we stay away from people. Just like before Covid.

That ^^
Still test if I feel unwell, can still get anti virals

Mammyloveswine · 24/04/2024 22:36

I wasn't even tested for covid when I was rushed to hospital via ambulance with pneumonia in January... no one is testing because it's now just a cold type illness

Deliadidit · 24/04/2024 22:37

YANBU - everyone is sick of covid and for the majority, whilst not pleasant, most will not become too unwell and make a good recovery.

However, I have CEV status and one of those poor sods that has to wear a mask whilst out in crowded places still (believe me i’m so sick of it!). If I was at your workplace and people were testing, I could at least make an informed decision of whether I attended or not, so I see this from all sides!

HeartandSeoul · 24/04/2024 22:37

My Dad has lymphoma, and several other health issues. He is due to start another round of chemo next month. We still test if we are meeting up, and especially if we have symptoms.

StormingNorman · 24/04/2024 22:37

I think people only test now when they want to isolate from work 😂🤣😂

This.

I am in a lot of complex health groups and this is very true.

SullyW · 24/04/2024 22:38

I tested on Monday as i work with vulnerable people and I had a cold i couldn't shake....was shocked it was positive but I'm still glad to know as I won't be spreading it in work (also means employer takes you seriously for needing to work from home for a few days)

Famfirst · 24/04/2024 22:38

People should definitely be testing and giving people a wide berth if they’re positive.

Misthios · 24/04/2024 22:39

Very rarely see anyone with a mask on any more either. Did see two women masked up in Ikea on Saturday afternoon and my first thought was if you have covid, or are vulnerable enough to think you need to wear a mask, what are you doing in Ikea on a Saturday afternoon?

Overthebow · 24/04/2024 22:39

I haven’t tested in a couple of years and don’t even know where to get tests anymore. I don’t know anyone that’s tests now.

XenoBitch · 24/04/2024 22:39

Can you even buy tests now?

JennyfromtheBlok · 24/04/2024 22:39

But If I am ill enough to think I had Covid (or any similar virus) I’d keep away from people anyway.

So no, everyone I know stopped testing years ago.

betterangels · 24/04/2024 22:40

Some of us still do. I like to know. The bastard thing was not a cold for me.

Most people don't though, true.

SullyW · 24/04/2024 22:40

To people asking, every pharmacy(and big supermarkets) all have tests

That's the case for my work. COVID we are allowed to work from home, because, COVID. Everything else, up to and including the Ebola virus....in you come.

(Our sickness policy is really poor so unless you are literally unable to move you still come in.)

Purplebunnie · 24/04/2024 22:41

XenoBitch · 24/04/2024 22:39

Can you even buy tests now?

I bought some at the beginning of the year when we were all ill as the ones we had were out of date

I think I ordered them online from Boots

Queenfierce · 24/04/2024 22:41

No haven't tested in ages and wouldn't want to do it now

UtterlyOtterly · 24/04/2024 22:41

I still test. I'm CEV, so while I appreciate most people no longer do, I am always grateful if anyone with a flu type illness checks. I am happy to buy and give them tests.

We have a family member going through chemo so check before seeing them.
