To think no one is testing for Covid anymore?

TwoTimesShoeShop · 24/04/2024 22:29

A work colleague has just messaged our team WhatsApp in a bit of a rant as they've got Covid. They are blaming it on someone who came into the office earlier this week with a blatant heavy cold thing. Colleague with cold is saying that they don't think it's Covid, but haven't tested and don't plan to, and that Covid colleague could have got it from anywhere.

It's now going into an argument about testing - a couple of people are still testing any time they get cold symptoms, but most are saying they won't bother. Covid colleague says we all need to test now as we were all in on Monday together for a meeting.

AIBU to think no one is testing anymore, and it's not necessary?

I test because if I get covid I have to have iv antivirals. No one else tests in the family and we're certainly not shielding etc.

This makes you a weirdo according to @MissBedelia

Yep

toastedcrumpetsrock · 24/04/2024 23:14

I don't test for work as policy is you go in anyway, if I'm unwell and visiting older relatives then I don't visit

Lesina · 24/04/2024 23:14

I’m delighted no one is testing anymore. Prior to 2020 we didn’t test for colds or flu.

Longdueachange · 24/04/2024 23:17

We aren't testing either anymore. Covid now is just another standard virus that does the rounds. If I have a bad winter cold I've always avoided visiting older relatives. I actually now wear a mask when meeting with customers if i have a bad cold, which is a carried over from covid.

JulianFawcettMP · 24/04/2024 23:18

@MissBedelia and yet your limited intellect prevents you from coherently explaining why. Shouldn't be surprised. No adult with a brain uses the word weirdo

Justkeepswiimming · 24/04/2024 23:19

Did one yesterday, due to my Mum messaging me to say she had it, and I've had a cough for a while. Not tested for ages prior to that thought. I'd forgotten what to do!

Or chest infections, chicken pox, measles, norovirus - any number of highly infectious illnesses which could make people very ill.

We used our common sense and didn't go and see granny in a care home or a friend having chemo if we were feeling ropey.

XenoBitch · 24/04/2024 22:39

Can you even buy tests now?

Yes Boots snd Superdrug

YeahComeOnThen · 24/04/2024 23:25

Mammyloveswine · 24/04/2024 22:36

I wasn't even tested for covid when I was rushed to hospital via ambulance with pneumonia in January... no one is testing because it's now just a cold type illness

@Mammyloveswine

not for many of us, who have health issues & not for some who don't but have posted at just how ill they are.

checkedshirts · 24/04/2024 23:26

Why does testing make me a weirdo @MissBedelia

I don't need antivirals for a lot of illnesses - I do for shingles which is pretty obvious if it's present and covid which isn't - therefore I test.

StormingNorman · 24/04/2024 22:37

I think people only test now when they want to isolate from work 😂🤣😂

This
But no,I don’t bother to test anymore. It’s just like a mild cold now for most.

RhiWrites · 24/04/2024 23:27

I tested and isolated when I got it at end January. I have a friend with long covid and wouldn’t wish that on anyone.

@StormingNorman
Oh how hilarious.

if only!

Ilovecakey · 24/04/2024 23:29

Never did test or wear masks or take the jabs

SullyW · 24/04/2024 23:29

im really glad i tested as it made sense as to why i felt so fatigued. it was peace of mind in a way and meant my employer wont pressuring me to get back to work (i know employers shouldnt anyway but lets be honest, they often do)

im also really glad i tested because i work with people who are vulnerable to covid and of course i want to protect them

I didnt know this made me mentally ill 😂

Exasperateddonut · 24/04/2024 23:29

JulianFawcettMP · 24/04/2024 23:11

@MissBedelia as I said I my previous post, many of us are asymptomatic with covid. So how would you know without testing?

I don't think that asymptomatic flu is common for example. Do you really not get that?

Asymptomatic flu is actually really common.

SullyW · 24/04/2024 23:30

also my brother in law had long covid/foggy head symptoms for over two years and couldnt work. no one would want that

echt · 24/04/2024 23:30

MissBedelia · 24/04/2024 22:56

unless your mask is a proper fit tested one it’s a waste of time

Who said their masks didn't fit?

SummerVibes03 · 24/04/2024 23:31

More than 1 million people in the UK are living with long Covid, including someone in my family. As previous poster mentioned, I would not wish that on anyone.
Those comparing it to a common cold are being ignorant. It can be debilitating and turn your life upside down.

YeahComeOnThen · 24/04/2024 23:31

Overthebow · 24/04/2024 22:39

I haven’t tested in a couple of years and don’t even know where to get tests anymore. I don’t know anyone that’s tests now.

@Overthebow

Shoe shop??

chemist or online - why is that not just common sense??

And patients having cancer treatment.
And carers caring for the vulnerable elderly.
And nurses looking after sick babies.
And many other reasons that might not affect you but greatly affect others.

You should try and get hold of a moron test.

WibblyWobblyWeeble · 24/04/2024 23:33

I had to shield during covid, as I have a chronic lung condition, but I don't test now if I have a cold.
I just carry on as normal.
