To have never sent an explicit photo to anyone?

BarrelOfOtters · 22/04/2024 14:10

It sometimes feels like I’m the only person who isn’t sending off intimate photos?

fair enough I’m mid 50s but even so.

YABU…never ending stream of photos of bits is normal now.
YANBU…God no.

I doubt most of us in our 50,s have?

LauraNorda · 22/04/2024 14:13

I've never felt the need to do so.

Doing so can return to bite you on the bottom years later.

ThirtyThrillionThreeTrees · 22/04/2024 14:13

I'm 40 and have never done it and have no intention of doing it.

Far more can go wrong than right.

He has a memory, he can use it and if it's a problem, then he's not for me. Never once has my refusal to provide one been an issue.

I actually think it's horrible the amount if teenagers who think this is normal and has to be done.

RampantIvy · 22/04/2024 14:14

Why on earth does anyone think the OP is being unreasonable? Confused

Digital photos can always be retrieved, even when deleted so even if I was 45 years younger I still wouldn't do this.

Haydenn · 22/04/2024 14:14

In my 30s and haven’t/wouldn’t

eileandubh · 22/04/2024 14:14

No no no no never. I can barely look a photo of my face these days without wincing, let alone my nethers.

CatamaranViper · 22/04/2024 14:16

What a strange thing to write a post about.

I agree.
It's just as depressing that 17% of voters are either really naive or think you are being unreasonable.

Pieceofpurplesky · 22/04/2024 14:16

No me neither. There were no mobiles when my bits were perky enough to even contemplate it - it would be a bloody panoramic shot now to get me all in!

Pieceofpurplesky · 22/04/2024 14:17

Should add - I would never have done anyway as it's weird and creepy

No it isn't, it's very pertinent. What an odd observation..

It’s prompted by the MPs caught out by this…

I'm 50 and sending nude pictures still happened when I was young, you just needed to use the post (and be very careful about who developed the photos!). I knew people who did this, but I never did, because I knew that the only way to make sure that no nude photos of me never came back to bite me, was to make sure that none were ever taken in the first place.

Asking me to send pics now would be the quickest way to make sure that the man would never get to see me naked!

RagzRebooted · 22/04/2024 14:22

I'm 38. Only sent such things in the past year, to my DH of 15+ years, because he works away now. Even then, I have them on a password protected folder on my phone, not backed up to the cloud and I sent them via an app that is encrypted and the images/videos cannot be screenshot or downloaded to DH's phone at the other end, only viewed in the app.

Marblessolveeverything · 22/04/2024 14:23

Nope, and don't want any on any device either. Strangely enough I am surviving. It's the ignorance about how far a picture can unintentionally go that scares me.

People on a recent stream were lambasting a 14 year old who accessed a picture of the mothers boyfriend. But seemingly my idea of actually not sending it was for the birds,🤷‍♀️

Ah, was unaware. Sorry!

MartinsSpareCalculator · 22/04/2024 14:25

I've sent them to my husband. He hasn't sent them. Neither are more wrong or right than the other.

Obviously nobody is unreasonable for not sending explicit photos of themselves.

Mothership4two · 22/04/2024 15:48

I really can't get my head around anyone doing this. The whole idea is a bit cringey (for me) but I would have always worried about who else might see it once it's out of my hands so to speak. But now with so much publicity and negative stories I think you must be mad. I know teenagers don't always make the best decisions! When people in the public eye do something stupid and risk their careers and reputation my mind boggles - not that has stopped people/men in the past!

When I was in my late teens a friend and her bf used to take naked 'sexy' polaroids of each other. We thought she was potty (and were a bit judgy TBH). They split up a few years later and he was very bitter about it - hopefully those photos faded pretty quickly.

Mothership4two · 22/04/2024 15:50

Phones get hacked too

Hadalifeonce · 22/04/2024 15:51

I have always told my DC to never put anything 'out there' that they wouldn't be happy with their grandmother seeing.
I really, really hope they have followed that advice.

AhBiscuits · 22/04/2024 15:52

I've done it twice. Once desperate attention seeking and once under pressure after one was sent to me. I regret both but it was 15 years ago and my face isn't in them so I don't expect it'll come back to bite me.

SilverBranchGoldenPears · 22/04/2024 15:54

I work in tech and cybersecurity and it’s one of the stupidest things to do. Even when you think you’ve covered your bases. Never done it. Never will. I don’t even have photos on my phone let alone send them!!

justanotherrandomperson · 22/04/2024 16:06

YANBU, but also (in reaction to some replies) it's wrong to automatically assume that anyone who's ever done it is disgusting or stupid. A lot depends on your age relative to the advent of the Internet/smartphones and widespread awareness of how photos can be distributed online. There's also a difference (imo) when you're in a long-distance relationship.

However, I do think that any politician or other high-profile person who does it now, as an adult, must be rather dim or short-sighted.

Beezknees · 22/04/2024 16:13

I am 34 and never have. You just never know where photos could end up.

Justcallmebebes · 22/04/2024 16:15

Nope never. Mind you, I loathe having my photo taken with all my clothes on, so highly unlikely I'd let myself with photographed naked. Shudder
