Is this the most expensive McDonalds in the world?

Travelling home from holiday last week and these were the prices at the airport McDonalds!

22 Euros for a double Big Mac meal!

Anyone want to guess which airport? And is there a more expensive McDonald’s out there?

Varna?

mewkins · 18/04/2024 07:41

Some of the service stations in France are pretty pricy for McDs.

Judellie · 18/04/2024 07:44

Is this supposed to be a guessing game? Just the header says 'is this the most expensive McD in the world' and people are suggesting other places are more expensive and then others are saying 'that country doesn't use the Euro' because of the picture.
So I'm thinking there are actually two questions:

  1. Where is the most expensive McD in the world (and Switzerland's definitely a contender there) and
  2. Where is this in the picture?

Feeling really ignorant because I had to look Dalaman up on the map!

Me too 😂

Sleepdeprived42long · 18/04/2024 07:49

Sorry for not coming back sooner…I was sleeping 😂

So lots of people correctly guessed that this was in Dalaman airport (Turkey).

Eye wateringly expensive! Not sure how they get away with it???

I’ve been to quite a few of the other airport McDs mentioned here-Hong Kong, Singapore, Paris, Rome - and they definitely weren’t as expensive as this when I was there. That might have changed!

Sounds like Istanbul airport similarly expensive so maybe Turkey is the most expensive place to buy a McDs!

Dalaman? Paid over 50 quid last year for 2 happy meals and two cheese burger meals. Wasn't very good either.

That was my first thought! We flew from there about 12 years ago...I remember making the kids put back Fruit Shoots, they were about £4!! 😮😂 We had been warned about the airport, but thought 'how bad can it be...?'.

Ifulikepinacoladas · 18/04/2024 07:53

Wow, just seen your update 😂😂

RichardsGear · 18/04/2024 07:54

McDonald's in Milan (in the very posh shopping arcade, the name of which escapes me) is amazing. They do mini calzone pizza things, and there's also an area upstairs like a patisserie with coffee in glass cups and very nice cakes served on china plates with cake forks. And I don't remember it being expensive at all.

userxx · 18/04/2024 07:58

Knew it was Dalaman, I remember a bloke having a massive rant about the prices and that was almost 10 years ago.

Places like Switzerland that are visited by many EU visitors will price in Euros, this would particularly be the case for airports. The price for food in Zurich is very high, so it could be Switzerland.

Also Switzerland has 3 languages but the language used is English. Perfectly standard for airports, so that gives us no clue.

Edited

I go to Geneva at least twice a year. They don’t price in Euros at the airport, and would definitely have French as their main language for menus.

The Swiss are not the type to bend over backwards catering for tourists like some other countries tend to do!

PrincessHoneysuckle · 18/04/2024 08:02

Dalaman is a joke unsure why coz Antalya was fine

Hermitlife · 18/04/2024 08:12

I instantly thought dalaman, I got charged £8 for a mid size pack of haribo in that airport it’s sickening!

Wishingwinteraway · 18/04/2024 08:13

Dalaman??? If not then it’s probably not the most expensive that place is ridiculous
ETA sorry hadn’t read reply when I posted…..

Roselilly36 · 18/04/2024 08:20

Food is always over the top at airports generally, there seems to be a tendency to get customers to order on the electronic boards, we noticed at Corfu BK there were no offers we could see on the boards, and you couldn’t see the counter from where the boards were placed, we ordered at the counter and it was much cheaper as there were some offers, we warned a couple of families, one went to the counter and ordered, the other paid over €100 for 4 meals! The staff in there didn’t like us telling people but I didn’t care, if I stopped a couple of families being ripped off it was worth their glares!

Harassedmum123 · 18/04/2024 08:27

Antalya is the most expensive I have ever seen.

BistoBear · 18/04/2024 08:28

We flew from Dalaman in 2010 and it was extortionate then 👎🏻👎🏻

Misthios · 18/04/2024 08:33

Eye wateringly expensive! Not sure how they get away with it???

Because people are clearly prepared to pay it.

BananaNutPancakes · 18/04/2024 08:54

NobbyNobbs · 18/04/2024 06:29

Am I the only daft one that assumes that McDonalds prices were fairly similar, no matter where you travelled?!🙈

Nope. They are all over the place and generally more expensive in airports.

There are some airports in the US where the airport prices have to be the same as city prices. SLC and PDX are two of them. I'm not sure if there are more. It is really refreshing to pay reasonable prices!

EvangelicalAboutButteredToast · 18/04/2024 09:07

I’d rather go hungry than pay that!

FrenchandSaunders · 18/04/2024 09:10

Blimey we're going to Dalaman later in the year, must remember to eat before we set off to the airport.

We did when we flew from there!
Starving on flight home and then straight to Burger King on drive back.

Definitely, or take your own food. The people 'in the know' had loads of food, clearly home cooked, on the plane...torture for us😂

Paranoidprepper · 18/04/2024 09:18

I'd rather go hungry (and have done) than pay those kind of prices, especially for fast food. The problem is, because lots of you obviously would pay it, they get away with it and have no reason to lower their prices.

Paranoidprepper · 18/04/2024 09:25

I hate feeling ripped off. I don't mind paying for a nice meal, etc, but holding you to ransom just because they know you've no other choice is wrong and goes against my principles, so I'm not going to support it by buying stuff. A pound or 2 dearer to account for the higher rents in different places, etc, I'd understand, but this is simply greed.

babyhiding · 18/04/2024 09:28

FrenchandSaunders · 18/04/2024 09:10

Have a hearty breakfast in the hotel before flight and if you're around the shops where you're staying stock up on snacks the night before and take on flight with you. With drinks though, be prepared to pay 4-5 euros as you can't take that on board unfortunately but they were changing liquid limitations hopefully you are able to take that as well.
