Travelling home from holiday last week and these were the prices at the airport McDonalds!

22 Euros for a double Big Mac meal!

Anyone want to guess which airport? And is there a more expensive McDonald’s out there?

Is this the most expensive McDonalds in the world?

We went to Burger King at corfu airport and it was around €25 for a meal!

CheapThrillsMeanNothing · 18/04/2024 00:30

Dalaman I seem to remember had really expensive McDs

Ella31 · 18/04/2024 01:22

Would Dalaman not use the Turkish Lira though?

twoandcooplease · 18/04/2024 01:27

First thought was also Dalaman

Copenhagen

Denmark doesn't use Euros.

Geneva

Not in the international terminal. That's where all the holidaymakers fly in and out of, so having the prices of everything in Euros makes more sense. Not just the McDonald's, it's nearly all shops in the terminal.

Geneva

Switzerland don't use Euros.

WibblyWobblyWeeble · 18/04/2024 01:30

Another one for Dalaman.

Filamumof9 · 18/04/2024 01:31

Amsterdam, went to Burger King there and it was about 22 euro for 1 meal. They charge extra if the cup is bit reusable, if the sauce is in closed package etc etc.

A new fact I learnt today 😁😁

Definitely not Dublin. Our mcdonalds here aren't that high yet 😅🤣

TakeOnFlea · 18/04/2024 01:41

Antalya?

PyongyangKipperbang · 18/04/2024 01:42

Am I the only person who would rather go hungry than pay £50 for Maccies?!

I dont care how much money I hypothetically have in that situation I am not going to spend that much on their crap food. Its only saving grace (and yes we did used to have it too fairly often) was it was cheap!

penjil · 18/04/2024 01:46

The price of a meal in McDonald's/Subway/Burger King at the new Istanbul airport is frightening. About £25 for a basic meal.

Of course, the prices are in Turkish Lira, so if you're in transit, and don't know the lira/£ exchange rate, you don't really know how much you've actually spent! It's horrifying! And so crafty!

But if you've got a few hours transit and you're hungry, what else can you do?! Everywhere charges approximately the same minimum scandalous price.

And there are hardly any seats at the mahoosive airport, so you end up going into a food place just to sit down. So then you have to buy something.

Pure evil callous greed.

PyongyangKipperbang · 18/04/2024 02:08

It is greed but....plus ca change....etc
Its the same reason why a maccies/BK will cost you more at a motorway services or why an M&S sarnie is 50% more in the same place, because where the hell else are you going to go?

In the 80's when we never had so much as a cup of tea at services when we were going on our UK holiday as it was so much more expensive than anywhere else. It was more formal eating yes, but the food quality wasnt good from what my father said from eating in them on expenses due to his job, just wildly more expensive as they know that you have no other choice if you havent brought your own.

Like I say, the more things change the more things stay the same.

HawkersEast · 18/04/2024 02:40

I don't know where this is but Davos, Switzerland was the most expensive I've encountered

Bjorkdidit · 18/04/2024 03:48

Well I don't know where they get their information, but they say the third most expensive is Iceland, which doesn't even have any McDonalds. Plus they say it's £8 in the UK and it's not quite that high for a standard Big Mac meal is it?

I paid under £6 for a fish filet meal a couple of weeks ago and that was at a motorway service station, so not usually more than high street and I think Big Mac meals were only a little more.

@PyongyangKipperbang I'm probably the same as you as in I'd rather go hungry than pay that much for food I don't even want, apart from to stop being uncomfortably hungry on a long flight, but I searched all around Gran Canaria airport a few weeks ago for food I actually wanted and all there seemed to be available was sandwiches, which I don't like if fridge cold like they were or Burger King, which I also don't care for.

So I ended up with some chicken burger meal, which was passable apart from the 'bread', which I didn't eat because it was disgusting. I have no idea what they do to it to make it so bad.

To answer the OP, I'll also guess Geneva (French side) due to Euros, an expensive place and because most likely it was at the end of an Easter ski holiday?

ImDuranDuran · 18/04/2024 04:01

Malaga?

Bjorkdidit · 18/04/2024 04:07

Not Malaga, they have the world's slowest BK instead. Last time we went, DP, who inexplicably loves an airport whopper meal, joined the queue while I went off in search of something I wanted.

I searched the whole terminal looking at everything, went around the street food court twice until I'd decided what I wanted, bought some sushi and some noodles, took it for takeaway and went to find DP. He'd ordered his food but was waiting for it to be ready. In the end it took him nearly an hour to get his food from when he'd joined the queue to order.

But no good Mumsnetter is going to have McDonalds at Malaga airport due to the aforementioned street food court, which is actually quite good, and there's a Giraffe.

Batman37 · 18/04/2024 05:09

in Switzerland here, website says chf16.90 for double Big Mac meal. Bargain (relatively)

DJSteves · 18/04/2024 05:16

@penjil I paid £25 for a single burger, fries and milkshake at Shakeshack in Istanbul airport. It was 6am and I'd been travelling all night. I was starving!

IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle · 18/04/2024 05:26

Itsokish · 18/04/2024 01:29

Geneva

Switzerland isn't in the EU and uses Swiss Francs. Someone else said "Norway" it isn't in the EU either and uses Norwegian Krone.

Toddlerteaplease · 18/04/2024 05:39

The most expensive one is the one we ordered at work last night that Uber delivered to the other side of the city.

Edited

Your DH is correct. One is only allowed BK while travelling. It's how I'm not the same size as a bus. Only flying or motorway services. No matter how slow or expensive.

I can't believe I have to explain this.

Backofthenet20 · 18/04/2024 06:07

I paid 19 Euro for a vege burger, small fries and water in Amsterdam last month at McDonalds
