Would you go to exhibition in your own?

One in London I want to see but either no one is interested, or no money and I can't afford to pay for a friend, far this year I've paid for her lunches, and she has never once repaid me, so I've said sorry can't afford it as she would expect me to pay her tube/train too, probably food, yes she has been through a tough time but I'm not loaded, far from it. So I'm going on my own? Is it like going to the cinema on your own, weird?

Yep! I prefer going to museums alone.

Willmafrockfit · 11/04/2024 06:39

no not at all

HappyHolidai · 11/04/2024 06:39

It's entirely normal to go to exhibitions alone.

Enjoy!

Willmafrockfit · 11/04/2024 06:39

i think museums are better alone

Beezknees · 11/04/2024 06:39

Neither is weird, of course I'd go on my own. I'm going to an orchestra on my own tonight.

SnapdragonToadflax · 11/04/2024 06:40

Yes, absolutely. I prefer going on my own actually, you can go at your own pace.

I also go to the cinema alone, it's not weird at all. I love being on my own.

WingSluts · 11/04/2024 06:40

Much better on your own. I’d even take myself out for a cocktail afterwards. But maybe I’m just weird.

And it’s not weird to go to the cinema alone. Thanks for insulting all of us that do.

ShoesoftheWorld · 11/04/2024 06:41

I go to museums and exhibitions on my own all the time (and have no problem whatsoever with going to the cinema on my own). It has the massive advantage that you can take it at your pace. Enjoy!

LadyPenelope68 · 11/04/2024 06:43

Absolutely nothing wrong with going to exhibitions/galleries/cinemas etc on your own. Not sure why you think it’s weird.

MinnieMountain · 11/04/2024 06:43

Some of us even go on holiday alone OP. It’s fine. Honestly.

I’m going to watch comedy alone on Friday.

PermanentTemporary · 11/04/2024 06:43

It's not weird to do anything alone and exhibitions are better that way if anything. Enjoy.

This, really this. You get to go at your own pace.
Honestly once you have been to a museum alone you won’t ever drag someone along.

WingateAndSlim · 11/04/2024 06:44

I prefer it too! I like to go around my own route, spend as much time in front of everything I’m interested in and read everything properly.

As I approached 40, I decided not to put off anything I wanted to do, see or experience, so I now regularly go to exhibitions, cinema and theatre by myself and there’s always many others there on their own too.

Hendalle · 11/04/2024 06:44

Seems I’ve missed the rules somewhere - I go to the cinema alone without a second thought 😂
Totally fine to go to an exhibition on your own. It’s really lovely being able to take it all at your own pace!

DappledThings · 11/04/2024 06:45

Going to the cinema alone is not weird, going to an exhibition alone is not weird, going to dinner or the pub or on an entire holiday alone is not weird.

IDontHateRainbows · 11/04/2024 06:45

I'm in London visiting, with a few hours spare tomorrow and had planned to do this very thing, alone....can't wait!

enjoyingscience · 11/04/2024 06:45

It’s fine/better. You can spend as long as you like, take it all in at you own pace with no distractions. Lovely.

enjoy it!

GCAcademic · 11/04/2024 06:49

I go to museums and exhibitions dozens of times a year and can count on one hand the number of times I’ve been to an exhibition with someone else. I also go to the cinema and theatre by myself all the time. Am currently on holiday on my own.

DappledThings · 11/04/2024 06:45

Going to the cinema alone is not weird, going to an exhibition alone is not weird, going to dinner or the pub or on an entire holiday alone is not weird.

I was going to say exactly this!

The belief it is 'weird' to be self-sufficient, independent, confident and to do as you please is very wrong.

TowerStork · 11/04/2024 06:50

Doing things like that alone is not weird. It's normal and often more enjoyable. After work today I'm going to a book reading. No one I know is as into this as I am so why would I want their boredom ruining my evening?

EmpressaurusOfTheScathingTinsel · 11/04/2024 06:50

Doing stuff on your own isn’t at all weird. I’m off on holiday on my own next week & it’s going to be fabulous.

Go to the exhibition & enjoy it. Why do you think going to the cinema on your own is weird?

elQuintoConyo · 11/04/2024 06:52

Entirely normal and quite enjoyable. Last year I spent around 6 hours alone wandering the Reina Sofia in Madrid - delicious! I can highly recommend going solo.

ImpishOrAdmirable · 11/04/2024 06:53

I go to the cinema/theatre/opera/ballet/exhibitions/restaurants/holidays on my own. DH and DDs are very happy with this! We do lots of stuff together too, and with friends, but I love being accountable to no one.

Never thought it was weird or felt self-conscious about it at all, actually.

Do it - you’ll not look back!

Bernadinetta · 11/04/2024 06:53

As others have said, for a gallery or museum I was really interested in, my preference would be to go alone.

Bellabatwings · 11/04/2024 06:53

I’m actually quite annoyed at the comment you made saying going to the cinema alone is weird!

Doing things on your own is not weird…. Not doing things and missing out because you feel you need a chaperone is weird imo
