Would you go to exhibition in your own?

One in London I want to see but either no one is interested, or no money and I can't afford to pay for a friend, far this year I've paid for her lunches, and she has never once repaid me, so I've said sorry can't afford it as she would expect me to pay her tube/train too, probably food, yes she has been through a tough time but I'm not loaded, far from it. So I'm going on my own? Is it like going to the cinema on your own, weird?

I don’t think your issues are about going somewhere on your own. I think your issues are about feeling resentful that a friend has taken advantage of you, or rather that you have allowed your friend to take advantage of you.

Try to be a bit more assertive in your life, you could start by choosing to do something that you want to do without relying on other people to do it with you.

Onemorebox · 11/04/2024 09:26

Yes 100%!
I love taking myself out for a solo date, Theatre, Cinema, Meals.. I've done it all! Especially fun not having to worry / entertain DCs in Central London.

Ginmonkeyagain · 11/04/2024 09:27

One of my favourite things to do is take myself off for the day to town or city, go to an exhibition, have a walk around and treat meyself to a pint or glass of wine before getting the train home.

I often do similar on holiday as Mr Monkey is a fan of a long afternoon nap on holiday and I am not, so I often wander off alone and have a poke around the local museum or historic sites.

Why the hell would it be ‘weird’ to go to an exhibition on your own? It’s not weird to do anything like that on your own.

It’s also not weird to go to the cinema on your own.

Unless you’re 12 and at school, you don’t have to get into pairs for activities.

BIossomtoes · 11/04/2024 09:36

Completely normal. I do it a lot if it’s something only I want to see. I go to the cinema and theatre alone too.

MovingBird123 · 11/04/2024 09:38

Normal and enjoyable, have a great time.

Stainglasses · 11/04/2024 09:40

The best thing to do alone. You can concentrate and go at your own speed. I don’t think it’s that fun to go with someone as you have to keep checking in with them and keep an eye on them as walking round. Better to fully immerse yourself

RabbitsRock · 11/04/2024 09:42

When I lived in London I went to loads of places on my own & absolutely loved it. Enjoy the exhibition OP. Hopefully your friend will treat you to something soon.

BeaRF75 · 11/04/2024 09:49

Firstly, going to the cinema on your own isn't "weird", it's completely normal

Secondly, exhibitions are probably better solo. Even with a friend, you both go at your own pace, so don't meet up until the end. Or it is too busy to get around comfortably as a pair.
Just be an adult, OP, and do whatever you like - then go for a good lunch afterwards as well - solo!

Questions like this baffle me. I think it's actually quite pathetic to refuse to do anything on your own, it's the sign of an very insecure person.

My ex's sister was like this. Couldn't get her head around us sometimes doing trips without each other, or going to the cinema alone. She couldn't bear to be alone for 5 minutes and it has lead her into some pretty terrible relationships.

I'd much rather be independent and confident in myself, and if a few saddos think I'm 'weird' for that I couldn't care less. I think they're weird too!

Elphame · 11/04/2024 09:54

I actually prefer it. I can wander around in my own time and not feel rushed (or bored) by having to keep up with or wait for someone else.

Do it!

NeverEnoughPants · 11/04/2024 09:56

I go to the cinema on my own a lot.

I just went to book a solo ticket, and took a look at who has booked already.

It looks like it's pretty usual to go to the cinema alone.

Would you go to exhibition in your own?
ViciousCurrentBun · 11/04/2024 10:01

Of course and I have many times. DH likes science museums, he is a scientist :) I prefer art galleries and libraries so we often split up on hols and go to the places we prefer and sometimes together.

Tbry24 · 11/04/2024 10:10

Doing anything alone is fine and usually more enjoyable. Film you get to choose seat, snacks don’t have to chat. Theatre the same. Exhibition or museum even better as you can focus on the stuff you like the most. Enjoy yourself.

CheeseSandwichRiskAssessment · 11/04/2024 10:13

It's not weird to go to the cinema, a museum or a holiday alone. It is not better to be on your own than with a "friend" who sees you as a pathetic mug?

GremlinDolphin4 · 11/04/2024 10:17

Exhibitions are better on your own! You can go at your own pace, read as much or little as you want and go back to things without worrying where anyone else is! Sometimes you even get chatting with other people anyway. Go for it and enjoy! Xxx

LyndaSnellsSniff · 11/04/2024 10:19

I love doing things on my own. I saw it as a sign of finally having grown up the first time I went to the cinema alone!

After watching a film, concert or visiting a museum I like to think about it and find I can do that much better alone.

ghostyslovesheets · 11/04/2024 10:19

God I’m awfully weird- I do most things alone - cinema, museums, holidays, shopping, sleeping, medical appointments, parents evening - I’m defective 😀😀

KimberleyClark · 11/04/2024 10:21

It’s fine. Not weird at all.

NeverEnoughPants · 11/04/2024 10:23

Defectives unite!

There's something to be said for this kind of malfunction. Honestly, life is pretty great when you don't need to have others around to do the things you want.

ghostyslovesheets · 11/04/2024 10:25

Life is great being a weird solo - I just do stuff sometimes without even running it past the cat! I’m such a weirdo 😻

weareallcats · 11/04/2024 10:26

Do people really think it's weird to do stuff alone? Crikey. I do stuff alone all the time.

Beatrixslobber · 11/04/2024 10:26

I prefer it on my own! Go at your own pace, skip the bits you don’t want to see, don’t have to talk when you would rather be lost in the exhibition.

What is it that you are seeing?

weareallcats · 11/04/2024 10:27

I actually think it's more weird to not do stuff alone - surely you'd miss out on so much if you always needed a mate to go with you!

Crunchymum · 11/04/2024 10:30

Like others I prefer to go alone.

Last time I went with a friend we did a floor together, realised we were going at totally different paces so went our separate ways. She finished the gallery before me and I met her in a bar after.
