Would you go to exhibition in your own?

One in London I want to see but either no one is interested, or no money and I can't afford to pay for a friend, far this year I've paid for her lunches, and she has never once repaid me, so I've said sorry can't afford it as she would expect me to pay her tube/train too, probably food, yes she has been through a tough time but I'm not loaded, far from it. So I'm going on my own? Is it like going to the cinema on your own, weird?

Sounds like bliss to me ! I'd team it with lunch/dinner drinks/coffee....really quality you time ! Enjoy ☺️

MinnieMountain · 11/04/2024 08:16

Sounds fabulous @GCAcademic . My DH doesn’t like city breaks. Although I was also seriously considering some time walking the Pembrokeshire coast path.

Maddy70 · 11/04/2024 08:17

Why is going to the cinema alone weird ? Loads of people go alone. Its perfectly normal are you judging those who do?

Tbh you are very derogatory about your friend too

Wonderwall23 · 11/04/2024 08:17

I've actually just turned down a weekend with some friends because I didn't really fancy this particular one. My DH asked me what I'd prefer to do with a free weekend...I realised my ideal would be a solo trip back to my university town...taking in all the sights etc and enjoying not knowing anyone around me.

It's fine!

CampsieGlamper · 11/04/2024 08:18

I would say it was weird to need a friendy-wendy to hold my wee little hand in the big big world out there.

TheNoodlesIncident · 11/04/2024 08:19

I'd like to go with someone like-minded, but going alone is no problem (and infinitely better than going with someone who'd be bored).

Glad you've noticed your user friend is taking the piss as well!

Startingagainandagain · 11/04/2024 08:19

Why do you believe that doing stuff on your own is 'weird'?

That's such a bizarre view.

You are an adult, surely you don't need someone to always be with you when you go out of the house?

savoycabbage · 11/04/2024 08:20

I went to an exhibition alone in London yesterday. I didn't know people thought going places on their own was weird!

lavenderboux · 11/04/2024 08:20

I actually much prefer going to things like this on my own!

Ponoka7 · 11/04/2024 08:22

I like the not having to compromise aspect of solo trips. I go to London to go to the theatre. Last time I stayed by St Dunstan in the East. I was up early so had a walk around the churches. The night before I'd ridden the night buses. It was quite magical being outside St Paul's at 1am with no crowds. I do go to the ballet with my DD, but would go alone if she couldn't make it, we chat to a lot of solo people. Why miss out?

thenightgarden · 11/04/2024 08:22

I enjoy going to London on my own - had a recent trip to the British museum. Loved it!

saveforthat · 11/04/2024 08:22

I would say you are the weird one.

Aethelthryth · 11/04/2024 08:22

Better alone; and going to the cinema alone is not weird either

RosesAndHellebores · 11/04/2024 08:25

Yes of course. Enjoy!

I like going to very empty exhibitions with someone equally interested to compare notes afterwards, but if, as so often, it’s crowded, you’re much better off going alone, as manoeuvring around crowded galleries is easier, and you’re not being those irksome people who stand blocking paintings in threes having a loud conversation about Sargent ‘not being good at hands’…

nothingsforgotten · 11/04/2024 08:31

What's weird about it? I often go to things on my own, and always have - and btw going to the cinema alone is very far from weird, given that you are there to watch a movie not have a conversation Hmm

FormerlySpeckledyHen · 11/04/2024 08:32

Of course it isn’t weird.
I’m spending 5 nights in London shortly on my own, busy planning my days alone. Evenings are taken care of with gigs. I can’t wait . So much better than dragging someone else along who is half hearted at best.

timenowplease · 11/04/2024 08:57

Actually, as an adult, not being able to do stuff on your own is weird.

ThoseBlueRememberedHills · 11/04/2024 08:59

I went to the Lowry exhibition at The Barbican and had lunch with a very famous actor as he was on his own too.

Greyat · 11/04/2024 09:06

I don't think going to the cinema is weird, I love it, butnid say an exhibition is one of the easiest things to do alone.

Oh, tell who the Lowry fan was? I hope it was someone deeply unlikely, like Vinnie Jones or Timothée Chalamet.

Actually, I now think someone should make a film about Lowry starting Vinnie Jones and Timothée Chalamet.

squashyhat · 11/04/2024 09:19

Of course it's not weird. It's weird (and rude) that you think it's weird.

ThreePointOneFourOneFiveNine · 11/04/2024 09:21

Do it! Totally understandable to feel a bit awkward if you've never done it before, but once you done it once you'll never look back. If it's a whole day and you'll be eating lunch there and might feel awkward doing that on your own just take a good book to get engrossed in.

Universalsnail · 11/04/2024 09:23

Yes I would just go alone
