To want a breakfast buffet at home

UnmitigatedAssholen · 06/04/2024 07:42

I want to wake up every morning and come down to a table laid with random things, like slices of cheese, pineapple juice, apple compote, muesli, iced water, yoghurt, coffee, hot chocolate, and just kind of start my morning by picking at this and that. But how do I get around the fact that I don't want to get it all out/prepared?

I'm going to have to hire staff, aren't I?

If you live anywhere near a premier inn, you can book their breakfast without staying. Not an everyday option obviously but an occasional treat. We’ve done it when camping.

Dreamingofgreece · 06/04/2024 07:46

Could I add thick slices of freshly baked bread ready for toasting and some warm hard boiled eggs?
I'd also like a salad bar laid out ready every lunchtime

I would actually do this twice a week! Do you pay guest prices on the breakfasts?

Otherwise maybe I could hire someone local and give them say 50 quid a week to come and lay breakfast for me, hover in the kitchen, and then clear it away. Talk about an indulgence 🤣

Could they also cook omelettes to order please?

Yes, and water with slices of lemon in it.

For some reason when I'm in a hotel, I'm even okay with rehydrated scrambled egg, the kind of thing that would make your stomach churn anywhere else

We’ve just come back from holiday and after 7 sumptuous buffets breakfasts, I have the same wish.

What a way to start the day.

ShoNuff · 06/04/2024 07:57

I think I’d be much more likely to eat breakfast if I had staff who prepared a tempting breakfast buffet for me every morning Grin.

There is an amazing deli near my workplace that does the best salad bar. Fresh, interesting salads, laid out in such an aesthetically pleasing way and so delicious. I have to sit on my hands not to get up and go there every day, as I’d be broke if I did. But it’s just so much more tempting than my own crappy homemade salad.

LizzieSiddal · 06/04/2024 07:58

I should add that our hotel had people cooking eggs, whichever way you wanted them, bacon and pancakes, so I’d obviously need a chef standing by the cooker as well as the buffet.

I know :-(

But you know (presuming you're also in the UK), we're lucky to live in such a cool country, I think we can get away with laying out fresh food at night and having it be totally fine the next morning. So I might experiment with setting a table tonight, it won't have everything but can still have a fair few things.

Oh yes. Best buffet breakfast ever on a cruise.
Huge platters of pineapple, melon, all sorts of croissants and other pastries😍
I always feel like I’ve died and gone to heaven.

On holiday i always feel so healthy because I've had a big, very varied meal to start my day, where normally I just skip breakfast or have a handful of sad nuts or something

This would be fantastic to do once a week/month. Could do a selection of cereals, have fruit ready in the fridge and bake pastries the night before.

dottiedodah · 06/04/2024 08:32

Ironically the late queen Elizabeth had a simple bowl of special k to start her day! Occasionally smoked salmon and eggs for a treat

MissyB1 · 06/04/2024 08:36

Best part of a holiday is the buffet breakfast! I don’t eat breakfast normally, but on holiday I go for it big time!

I think it's only fun if you dont prepare it yourself!
You could make a deli plate in the evening with ham and cheese then cover in the fridge, and cut up a pineapple, mango, melon and do same?
I make a fat Spanish omelette that can cope with a minute in the microwave, you could make that in advance?
But you really want a breakfast butler, lol. I'd do it but I'd be hungover!

We were just saying this over our hotel buffet breakfast now!!

Freshly made pancakes with fresh fruit to top them. Freshly made granola and Bircher. More pastries and breads than you can shake a stick at. Fabulous!! We don't need lunch after these breakfasts!

BobbyBiscuits · 06/04/2024 08:43

@UnmitigatedAssholen haha. You've got the willpower and determination to create this beautiful thing, to wake up to a joyous moment! Sounds awesome. I can barely be arsed to make a coffee right now. Show us pictures of it! People will start booking breakfasts at yours...

I just got really excited about trying this out, then suddenly realised I'd wake up to a table covered in crumbs and three very fat very happy cats.

🙏 Thanks for the Spanish omelette idea, that is a great way of pre-making an egg element (I was gunna do boiled eggs, boring!). How long do you reckon that would be good for, as obviously in true buffet breakfast style I will only want a sliver!

I love the breakfast buffets in Asian hotels. Noodles and dumpling at breakfast? Why not 😁

I feel your pain, I once had a cat that would eat anything, and I mean anything, once even a chicken leg straight off an unattended roast. The cat I have now is as good as gold!

YABU because meusli, compote and yoghurt are gross. You want bread, cheese, ham and a full english buffet.

Waitrose do frozen mini pastries - croissants, pain au choc and raisin swirls - they are delish!
