To want a breakfast buffet at home

UnmitigatedAssholen · 06/04/2024 07:42

I want to wake up every morning and come down to a table laid with random things, like slices of cheese, pineapple juice, apple compote, muesli, iced water, yoghurt, coffee, hot chocolate, and just kind of start my morning by picking at this and that. But how do I get around the fact that I don't want to get it all out/prepared?

I'm going to have to hire staff, aren't I?

You beed to try Club Med in Polynesia.
Theres a tunnel of exotic fruit just to get to the buffet
Food for every culture...
Proper French patisserie
Just not in your house

Could they also cook omelettes to order please?

and pancakes

Glittertwins · 06/04/2024 08:59

My DC do this after training in the morning. Every so often, they'll be a squad of them going, they love it

RabbitsRock · 06/04/2024 09:05

Would love that! I think more places should offer breakfast buffets. I heard about a pub that offers a menu including individual breakfast items which would be ideal for me as I’m a lightweight & sometimes struggle to finish even a smaller plated breakfast. It’s about a 40 minute drive though. We do have a Premier Inn just up the road & the food there is always good. £9.99 for unlimited breakfast including hot drinks, juices, cereals & continental as well as hot items. Blimey now I really want a full English!

BobbyBiscuits · 06/04/2024 09:06

@UnmitigatedAssholen aw thank you! Yeah, I made one the other day and it was good for 3 days! I parboiled a sliced potato or 2, then whatever other sliced veg, peppers, spring onions are good, fried those off then added 3 beaten seasoned eggs. You can try and flip it, or just finish under the grill. It keeps in the fridge in Tupperware pretty well.
You can heat up a slice in the microwave for 1 min, I like it with encona hot sauce! 😁

Guys, the premier Inn comments prompted me to have a look, and I've made an exciting discovery. I start a new job on Monday, there is a travelodge right next to my new office, and they allow walk ins. It's less than a tenner!

Oh I do love a buffet breakfast on holiday abroad.
All that lovely fruit.

I'm not sure that reading this thread was a good idea.

I've just discovered, as a result, that the Toby Carvery near me do a buffet breakfast for £6.49 midweek (£6.99 at weekends).

But now, having looked at the menu, it's a bit disappointing. No drinks includes, no fruit or pastries - it's basically an all you can eat cooked breakfast.

I don’t mean to be disparaging and Travelodge does a good job but I just get the feeling the travelodge buffet isn’t going to hit the spot. You need a bit of opulence in your buffet brekkie!

Tiredforfive45 · 06/04/2024 09:34

Could you become a teenager in an American film? They always come downstairs to a full spread. The proviso would be that is seems you can only take one sip of coffee or pick up an apple to take with you though, you aren’t ever allowed to sit down to eat it 🤔

UnmitigatedAssholen · 06/04/2024 09:34

Here's what Travelodge does apparently

I don't know it it still is a thing but the To Good To Go App used to have lots of nice hotels on there which allowed you to come in to the hotel buffet around 9.30 onwards and fill a tupperware, juice and a hot drink. Most of them used to be about £5. Yummy!

OldTinHat · 06/04/2024 09:38

Am I blind with hunger or has no one mentioned sausages yet? There has to be amazing sausages on this buffet. And black pudding. And baked beans. And fried bread!!! Why is that not a thing anymore?!

TheSandgroper · 06/04/2024 09:39

Set the timer and temp on your oven, pop your croissant in before you go to bed and come down in the morning to a piping hot pastry?

bellezarara · 06/04/2024 09:39

I loved the breakfasts at our tiny hotel in Istanbul. Individual bowls of honey, jams, olives, cheese, sweet butter, oven baked eggs or shakshouka, lots of freshly baked bread, pastries and Turkish coffee.

Yes! A pub/carvery/pizza place near me (it's a bit confused as to what it is) offers breakfast remains via Too Good To Go. £3.

Come on OP you are dreaming of a breakfast banquet Travelodge is going to be more like this

Premier Inn (and probably Travelodge) are very variable. Some are very decent, with a wide selection of nicely cooked food, some freshly cooked.

Others are bloody awful, crowded, badly cooked, and lots of missing items.

But I'd think that many hotels allow non guests to have breakfasts for a fixed sum, so it's worth looking around to see what you have available locally.

UnmitigatedAssholen · 06/04/2024 08:02

On holiday i always feel so healthy because I've had a big, very varied meal to start my day, where normally I just skip breakfast or have a handful of sad nuts or something

Me too! I never manage breakfast at home but on holiday I have so much fruit, granola, yoghurt….love it.

I normally find myself having a cooked breakfast at first and then remember that’s not my favourite and go back to the continental section.

RomeoRivers · 06/04/2024 09:56

I LOVE a buffet breakfast! It’s one of my favourite things about holidays.

At the moment we have: cereals, granola, Greek yoghurt, fresh raspberries, blueberries, strawberries, banana, toast, poached eggs, beans, porridge, orange juice and a proper bean coffee machine available every morning.

(My friend taught me a game changing way to make the perfect poached egg in a mug in the microwave in 45 seconds!)

My dream, when the kids start school, is to be able to prepare simple cooked breakfasts on rotation during the week: beans on toast, scrambled egg, bacon sandwiches etc - very much like how breakfast is presented in American films! 😂

RomeoRivers · 06/04/2024 10:01

Ooooo and I would buy those big boxes of mini pastries from Costco!

Floofydawg · 06/04/2024 10:04

Off on an all inclusive holiday soon and can't bloody wait for the breakfast buffet and salad bar for lunch!

MarmiteyCrumpets · 06/04/2024 10:10

That's the dream, OP! I recommend either a fancy residential hotel or a luxury round-the-world cruise.

UnmitigatedAssholen · 06/04/2024 10:11

This is a great idea!
So essentially rather than try and find someone local to hire as a breakfast prepper, I need to look for a live-in rent-a-mom. 😁

She could call me honey and wave me off to work from the doorstep!
