I bought some fish and chips tonight for two people.
It came to £36!

I ordered 2 fish and chips (£14.90 each), 2 soft drinks, and 2 little pots of ketchup.

I haven't ordered it in a while, I remember it being £6 for fish and chips! Am I out of touch?? 😆

I think that's probably the high end of normal but still pretty common.

tillytoodles1 · 29/03/2024 19:45

About £10 per head. Its not a cheap takeaway any more.

Hellocatshome · 29/03/2024 19:46

Its £9.50 from our chip shop which is 5 mins from the seaside. Its £15.50 from the tourist one near the beach.

NailsHairNipsHeels · 29/03/2024 19:47

£10 for a fish supper here. Sauce is included though

Mindymomo · 29/03/2024 19:47

Ours is £8.50 for cod and £3 for chips, portion size is very good as DH and I could probably share the chips. DH goes and gets them as we’ve found getting them delivered really pushes the price up way too much.

We get 2 fish and chips, 2 bread cakes, large curry sauce, small mushy peas, scraps and 2 cans of pop. £21.

12,50£ for fish and chips, large. 1.70£ per soft drink 0.18£ for ketchup (a sachet)

BakedTattie · 29/03/2024 19:49

Fish supper where I am (south east Scotland) is £10

iLovee · 29/03/2024 19:50

It's £15 for a large cod&chips where I live (not touristy/near the sea!) But the portions are massive so we get chips to share etc. For 2 of us it's normally about £25 but we buy cans/ketchup anyway so not including that.

What's a bread cake and scraps, don't see them in Glasgow chippies!

Datgal · 29/03/2024 19:51

We've just had fish and chips! So for two (massive) cod and chips, curry and peas each it was £17 odd. (Derbyshire)

For scraps see also batter or bits depending where you live. Its all the little bits of batter that fall off the fish when its being fried. They scoop them up and normally give them you for free if you ask. Yummy bit not good for you.

fuckthemail · 29/03/2024 19:54

Wow where do you all live 😂 I fed 4 of us for £16 a few weeks ago!

(2 fish and chips, 2 sausage and chips, 2 sauces, one pop)

Mama1980 · 29/03/2024 19:54

I bought fish and chips today. I paid £34 for 3 fish, 2 chips, 2 mushy peas, bread and butter 3 slices, 3 cups of tea, and a few pickles which I thought was pretty good. SE seaside town.
So I think yours was a little expensive but pretty normal.

Blanketpolicy · 29/03/2024 19:54

Deluxe Fish supper (2 good sized haddock + generous portion of chips) is £7.10 in our local chippy.

ConcernedOfClapham · 29/03/2024 19:54

Did you order through an app for home delivery? It does seem a little OTT unless there are delivery charges applies.

Or did you go to one of those posh places that seem to be springing up all over, they usually charge pretty highly and the meal is rarely as satisfying as what you’d get in an old school high street chippy.

I was going to say we get fish & chips for two for less than half that, but then I remembered the portions are so big in our local that we share a battered fish, and large chips. Comes to about a tenner (and we collect in person)

Sorry Bradford here and I call them bread cakes. You know like bread bun, tea cake. To make a chip butty 😂

Scraps is the bits of batter used to make the fish on batter. They give them out in little bags called scraps here. Yum yum.

DustyMaiden · 29/03/2024 19:55

£15

SpringingAlong · 29/03/2024 19:55

£16 each here, but well worth it.

CombatBarbie · 29/03/2024 19:55

South Ayrshire here..... 8.50 for fish supper which you get 2 pieces of fish plus a load of chips. Plenty enough for two. And proper chippy brown sauce.

Tagyoureit · 29/03/2024 19:56

That sounds about right these days!

We got a chippy dinner and it's was £23 for 2 battered sausages, 1 burger, 1 portion of chicken nuggets and 2 portions of chips. We couldn't finish the chips though as there was loads.

PrimalLass · 29/03/2024 19:57

£7-£9.50 depending on large or small

ArcticFreeze · 29/03/2024 19:57

£18.50 for two at the coast. £25 local.

ThreeB · 29/03/2024 19:58

£29 here for 2 large cod and chips, 2 kids cod and chips, 2 juices, 2 large mushy peas, large gravy and large curry sauce
