How much do you pay for fish and chips?

I bought some fish and chips tonight for two people.
It came to £36!

I ordered 2 fish and chips (£14.90 each), 2 soft drinks, and 2 little pots of ketchup.

I haven't ordered it in a while, I remember it being £6 for fish and chips! Am I out of touch?? 😆

We had some last night, they were tiny portions, just about fed 2 adults and 2 children, £25

What are scraps?

I think I’ve started a whole new thing with mentioning bread cakes and scraps 😅

Scraps - pieces of batter than are left in the fryer that get served up as yummy unhealthy bits of batter. I think we get them free but they put them in a little bag for us.

Bread cakes - bread in a roll or bun with butter. I also call them baps, tea cakes, bread buns, rolls. I make chip butties.

I paid £15 for 2 portions of chips, piece of cod and a plain sausage. Generous portions. Not entirely sure how they can sell it for that price as I live somewhere really expensive!

DH got us 2 large fish, a child’s fish and a large chips to share with 2 cans of coke and it came £28.

Regular cod is £7.

A large chips for £5.50 is enough for 3 people so you can feed 3 for £26.50

Given that we spend close to £50 for pizza takeaway it feels much cheaper!

I love good fish and chips. I am fortunate enough to now qualify for an OAP deal but would happily pay £12 or so if freshly cooked. Fish is expensive as is cooking oil, business rates etc.

We get two cod, one large chips, Two battered sausages and a small chips, mushy peas. It's over £45

Its about £16-17 here for cod and chips take out

Recently went to Poppies in Camden and 2x cod and chips (very small fish) plus 2 soft drinks was £59 😱

I don't buy battered fish, but it costs £8 for DS scampi and chips. I'm trying to recall the menu and think £10 is the highest priced item.

Our chip shop put up signs about changes in the potato price and it adjusting their price. Only place I've ever known to put prices down again.

Paid £20 tonight for portion of chips, 2 x fish, portion of mushy peas and 2 cans of drink. That's enough for 3 people. It's cheaper in the week.

I paid just under £20 today for 1x fish and chips, 1x curry chip with salt and chilli chicken, a smaller tub of curry, a packet of sliced ham and a small cheesecake from our local petrol station/supermarket hot food counter.

The fish and chips alone was £7.45 but is closer to £10 at the chippy we go to.

£34 for 4 cod and 2 large chips. So £8.50 for fish and chips for one.

The chip shop round the corner from my house is excellent. Wonderful food and people come from miles around.

I don’t like chip shop food but my husband and son shared a fish,chips and peas the other day and it was £13! I couldn’t believe it. Like you I expected around £6-£7. It was a good portion though and was plenty for the both of them.

12.50 here med cod and chips .prices have risen due to problems with Russian supplies .

Our local chip shop is a Rick Stein. We don’t often have chip shop dinners!

Fish and chips in my part of the midlands is £15.40 a head so £30.80 for 2 fish and chips! We tried to share a portion of chips to keep costs down but the portions have also shrunk as well and a regular chips used to be a small pre covid. We don't often have fish and chips anymore.

We call it batter where I'm from, as in "can I have a portion of chips and some batter on please".

It's the drips of batter from when they drop things in the fryer, they scoop them up and you can have them put on top of your chips.

Our local chippy also does battered chips which are exactly what they sound like. They are so good.

£10 for the smallest portion but worth every penny.

£9-£10 approx in a fishing town on the east coast of Scotland.

I find those portions massive though so I either go for just a single fish (one place here does an amazing spicy fish and a single portion of that can do me for dinner and then lunch the next day) or I'll get a small portion of the fish supper which is more like £6-£7 and perfect for me.
