I bought some fish and chips tonight for two people.
It came to £36!

I ordered 2 fish and chips (£14.90 each), 2 soft drinks, and 2 little pots of ketchup.

I haven't ordered it in a while, I remember it being £6 for fish and chips! Am I out of touch?? 😆

I’ve just had fish chips and peas! £11.70 between two of us. Massive portions. 20p extra for breadcrumbed.

CharSiu · 29/03/2024 20:24

£11 for large fish and chips, it is enough between DH and I, up North.

ThinWomansBrain · 29/03/2024 20:24

Too good to go app - £3
it's a bit random though - sometimes fish, but other times sausage/chicken/pie to accompany the chips

there's a place by the coast that I always get fish and chips on holiday - the do a 'light 60+ lunch' for about £7, it's a smaller portion of chips than normal, I enjoy it more, fish shop chips are addictive and I don't have the will power to only eat half.

What's a bread cake and scraps, don't see them in Glasgow chippies!

You're seriously missing out. Bread cake = bread roll.
Scraps = crispy bits of batter that have fallen off the fish.

Comefromaway · 29/03/2024 20:27

It’s even cheaper at the one we use at work £6.99 for fish, chips & peas (slightly smaller portion but splits between two of us for lunch)

GentianCoffee · 29/03/2024 20:29

£13 each for large (which is very large) cod and medium (again, generous) chips, here in South East. Quality is very, very good.

Deluxe Fish supper (2 good sized haddock + generous portion of chips) is £7.10 in our local chippy.

Wow - where are you? Surely they are selling that a a loss?

It's mince, gravy and onions in suet pastry but you boil it in a muslin, aka "a rag". My parents like it but I don't like the texture of suet pastry so haven't had it since I was a kid.

Omg that sounds divine. Thanks ♥️

Just had tonight, £24 for 2 large cod, 2 chips, 2 mushy peas and 2 cans of D&B😆

KathrynWheel · 29/03/2024 20:45

Large fish, large chips, large mushy peas, feeds 2, 12€ Tenerife

Toottooot · 29/03/2024 20:52

How much was the juice and sauce? Chippers here charge about £4 for a 2 litre bottle of Coke.

Mynewnameis · 29/03/2024 20:54

About £10. If I want a cheap meal I have chips and curry sauce

Sorry Bradford here and I call them bread cakes. You know like bread bun, tea cake. To make a chip butty 😂

Scraps is the bits of batter used to make the fish on batter. They give them out in little bags called scraps here. Yum yum.

a soft round bread roll, or a bap.
(Bread buns are usually sweet, as are tea cakes.)

I had to learn a whole new food language when I moved to Yorkshire.

MrsWhites · 29/03/2024 21:02

Just had a look at our local chippy - £8.50 each for large cod and chips. £1.50 for large curry and 60p each for barm cake (that’s a bread roll for those of you not from Liverpool)

Londonrach1 · 29/03/2024 21:02

Chips £3.50. fish around £8-9. (Midlands). Did have a meal deal at fish and chips in Wales for £10 including a can.... Was lovely fish and chips too. There's a rubbish fish and chips in our town that charge you £15 including free food poisoning but the tourists go there ..our local is the chips £3.50 and the fish £8-9 depends on if cod or haddock. . That one has queue of locals outside.

Kelly51 · 29/03/2024 21:03

£9.50 for a fish supper, east coast Scotland

EmmaGrundyForPM · 29/03/2024 21:05

£12 per portion in our local takeaway.

£18 per person for a similar amount in our local pub.

andHelenknowsimmiserablenow · 29/03/2024 21:05

Yes, 14.90 large cod and chips here (Midlands). Chippy tea used to be cheap, but not now.

YouwouldthinkIhavemoresense · 29/03/2024 21:06

It was £50 for four of us tonight:
two large cod, regular cod , medium chips, small chips and a curry sauce .
We were going to have pickled onions but they were £1.50 per onion. I shit you not.

Fifty fucking quid. We’re in the SE and won’t be having it again in a hurry.

Soontobe60 · 29/03/2024 21:09

We’ve had a small fish, large chips, cheese + Onion pie, small peas and larger gravy for £11.50

MinervaMcGonagallsCat · 29/03/2024 21:12

£10.20 for a Fish Supper

That's 2 large haddock with large chips

Ifailed · 29/03/2024 21:17

2 x pieces of battered haddock and a bag of frozen chips is about £5, plus a quid or so to heat up the oven.

UpsideLeft · 29/03/2024 21:20

I bought some fish and chips for DS on my way home from shopping with DD earlier today

It cost £10.80

SE on the coast

Is a bread cake a roll? I feel like this could be a new thread 😂

StormingNorman · 29/03/2024 21:23

Between £15 - £18 per portion for fish and chips. Extra for pickles, mushy peas and a fizzy. I like rock so my order is cheaper than other fish. Southeast here.
