Posters you still think about

Proof I probably spend too much time on here but does anyone else have posters they still think about every now and again?

Mine is the Australian poster whose son was in the abusive relationship and her many threads about helping him get out of the relationship and realizing she was toxic.

Can’t find the threads at all now but I hope her and her son are still doing well!

Does anyone else have stand out posters or threads that stick in their minds?

The one whose brother was living with a woman and she wouldn’t get rid of her dog. He’d given her an ultimatum and she’d told him to leave. The OP wanted to convince the woman to keep him.

None really. I don't tend to get emotionally involved with randoms on the internet. Especially MN which is full of troll threads.

Yes I remember this thread about the son. Now that you've said it I wonder if he ever broke up with the girlfriend.

Nousernamesleftatall · 10/03/2024 13:28

Biscuits and bandages. She was a doctor who got cancer after the birth of her daughter. She sadly passed away. Awful.

I think in the third post he might have done, although might also be making that up to feel better about the whole situation!

Who was the poster ages ago who wrote many eloquent posts about the challenges of caring for a disabled child, living on a very low income? She was invited to 10 Downing Street, to meet David Cameron I think?
Is she still around, or did the high profile of it all get a bit too much for her?
Still think of her

FuzzyPuffling · 10/03/2024 13:39

The fabulous WhatWouldLeslieKnopeDo.
A stalwart of the cancer threads, I got to know her IRL and she was just the wisest, funniest, loveliest person. Her death still hurts.

Yes I remember her. ?Raven something?

The Australian one also stuck with me: I do hope that was resolved.

GwinGwyn · 10/03/2024 13:41

I thought you meant wall posters and was going to say: “Yeah why did everyone think that black and white Athena poster of the man and baby was the dogs?!” I didn’t understand it then, don’t understand it now!” 😂

I wonder what Athena man looks like today, he must be in his 50s… 🤔

I remember her very well, I just can't remember her name! She was as familiar to me as my palm, felt like a member of my family (she won't have noticed me)! Can't believe I've forgotten her name.

She'll recognise herself if she sees this thread. Hope you're doing OK xxx

Yes, there are trolls; but a great many of those 'randoms' are actual struggling, suffering people who are desperately reaching out for advice and support in the only way they can confidently do so.

If you assume that it's just basically wall-to-wall trolls, why do you waste your time on here at all?

Riven.

I remember the Australian one and the one with the brother/dogs although I wasn't 100% sure that the latter wasn't a wind up there.

ASighMadeOfStone · 10/03/2024 13:47

David Cameron went to visit Riven during his election campaign.

Hairyfairy01 · 10/03/2024 13:48

Many, many years ago where the OP's husband suddenly left taking literally everything he owned with him, including some chutney if I remember right! Then she found out she was pregnant and had a boy called Adam I believe. She posted afterwards for a while but I would love to know how she is now. She had a great style of writing.

Finlesswonder · 10/03/2024 13:49

Bluntness! What happened to her? NC?

OurfriendsintheNE · 10/03/2024 13:49

I was thinking of the lady called Pamela the other day who posted throughout her illness and up to her death. And of her husband and son.

ThirtyThrillionThreeTrees · 10/03/2024 13:50

I don't remember most posters names but I do hope that some of the posters who started threads on horrible, abusive relationships found a way out.

Sidebeforeself · 10/03/2024 13:54

Yes I miss Bluntness!

shellyleppard · 10/03/2024 13:54

The man whose neighbour's were building a canopy at the bottom of his garden.....it kept me gripped for weeks!!!! Also the lady with the bowel prolapse??? Not seen anything from her for a while. Note to self remember to write down the names ,🥺

daisypond · 10/03/2024 13:54

WhatWouldLeslieKnopeDo and TwitterQueen. Both have now died. I think about them a lot.

Sixparrots · 10/03/2024 13:56

I always enjoyed usualsuspects posts.

Fridays on here used to be fun because of her. Hope she is doing well.

Yes I miss Bluntness!

I never got the love for Bluntness, she could be pretty unpleasant.

She seemed to disappear after she ghosted another poster, who she had befriended, and that ghosted poster began to start threads saying things like, 'Bluntness, my love, where are you? I miss you!'

FOJN · 10/03/2024 13:58

There was a poster on the COVID threads who was, iirc, wheelchair dependent and had daily carers to help with washing, dressing, getting in and out of bed etc. When we went into lockdown her carers were cancelled and she hadn't been able to wash or change her clothes for more than two weeks at the time she posted.

Her vague geographical info suggested she lived hundreds of miles away or I would have offered to help her. I do have relevant experience and skills. I often wonder how long it was before she got some help and hope she's OK.
