I sound like an absolute brat but I just know DH will gift Me a huge Bunch of something for Valentine's Day, but they just stress me out so much! Getting them out of the ton of Paper / plastic, trimming them, finding a suitable vase, arranging them, finding somewhere to put them.. argh! Confused

I received so many flowers when my dad died that I absolutely hate being gifted them now. They're too tied up with grief for me. My husband knows not to buy them for me now.

I still like a bunch of daffodils Grin

Doubleapple · 13/02/2024 16:56

@DurhamDurham Same! I have daffodils in my Kitchen now as we speak, they're so low maintenance Grin

I prefer a bunch of daffs too, so cheery at this time of year.

CaraMiaMonCher · 13/02/2024 17:03

Perhaps get DH to get you a hand tied bouquet in a water bubble from a proper florist, then your only responsibility is to top the water up.

Supermarket flowers are always going to need conditioning.

Ignore last message, I'm sat on the bus and it jolted !

@Doubleapple Me too. I've a little pot of daffodils on my kitchen window sill.

Here's us claiming to hate flowers Grin

I’m with you. And then they die and you have to carry them through the house while they shed dry leaves, then dispose of them and wash up the vase.

Third world problem and I know i should be grateful.

You mean first world problem, surely!

Everydayimhuffling · 13/02/2024 17:09

I love to get flowers. I absolutely hate being given a plant though: a stressful load of work that will inevitably die.

Dearover · 13/02/2024 17:09

After 30 years DH & DD know that a bunch of daffs bought on impulse hits the spot. Anything requiring me having to find a vase, find somewhere to put them and then try to make them look as good as they did in the shop is a big no from me.

Olika · 13/02/2024 17:10

I told my DH in the beginning not to get me flowers so he doesn't.

coxesorangepippin · 13/02/2024 17:10

Daffodils are fine

They have low expectations

ConsuelaHammock · 13/02/2024 17:36

I like the Lego flowers.
Flowers are a huge waste of money imo. I do like flowers in my garden but don’t like it when they’re cut and die in a vase.

ConsuelaHammock · 13/02/2024 17:37

I like houseplants or plants and bulbs for the garden.

SocksAndTheCity · 13/02/2024 17:37

I also have two £1 bunches of daffs in a vase on the table 😊

The last bunch of flowers I was bought was a large bouquet of those huge Stargazer lilies that look amazing but smell like a combination of pissed beds and burning tyres. I had to bin them after a couple of days because I couldn't bear the stench any longer.

SkaneTos · 13/02/2024 17:38

I am eternally single, so I would be happy to have a life partner buying me flowers.

MissusKay · 13/02/2024 17:38

YANBU. They remind me of funerals. I hate cut flowers now

NO. I love flowers, and am always happy to receive them! I buy them for myself once a month! (Currently got a bunch of daffodils on my windowsill.) Daffodil

Hoping to get a nice bunch of roses from DH tomorrow. 🌹

DustyLee123 · 13/02/2024 17:39

Me, I’d much rather have a plant for the garden. So much better environmentally.

10ThousandSpoons · 13/02/2024 17:39

I hate them.

BenjaminBunnyRabbit · 13/02/2024 17:41

He can buy flowers already arranged into a vase if he buys from a local florist.

Willow12345 · 13/02/2024 17:41

So funny - I thought it was just me! I hate being given bunches of flowers too. It's always a hassle cutting stems, finding a vase, etc. Much prefer a small bunch of daffodils (which I also have in my kitchen atm).

HeadShoulderHipsandCalves · 13/02/2024 17:41

I hate the smell of the slimy water if you forget to change it.

Overtheatlantic · 13/02/2024 17:41

I agree. I’d rather have a small bouquet in a jar or a few daffs.

user120405 · 13/02/2024 17:42

Cut flowers are appalling for the environment. They have a really high carbon footprint. DH knows not to buy them for me because I'd rather have something growing (and seasonal)
