I sound like an absolute brat but I just know DH will gift Me a huge Bunch of something for Valentine's Day, but they just stress me out so much! Getting them out of the ton of Paper / plastic, trimming them, finding a suitable vase, arranging them, finding somewhere to put them.. argh! Confused

Me! I hate being bought flowers. I’ve been very vocal about this over the years, so everyone knows not to buy them. My DH will buy me a dozen doughnuts tomorrow instead 😂

GnomeDePlume · 13/02/2024 18:30

We grow flowers on our allotment specifically for cutting. Really loving the daffs at the moment, lively scent - they're our first crop of the year!

Later in the year, we will have stocks, straw flowers, sunflowers, cornflowers, asters, sweet peas etc.

As a result I have a lot of vases!

emmaempenadas · 13/02/2024 18:30

I love flowers, not keen on roses personally but I love a bright bunch of flowers.

BlowDryRat · 13/02/2024 18:52

I only like being bought flowers if DH then sorts out the wrapping, trims the stems etc and puts them in a vase. ExH used to buy flowers to apologise for being crap again and it's taken a long time to get to the point of almost enjoying them again.

FannyFifer · 13/02/2024 19:06

I hate getting flowers. All that money to just watch them die.

VampireWeekday · 13/02/2024 19:16

I hate being gifted anything that isn't food. Edit: or drink!

WhereHaveMyMarblesGone · 13/02/2024 19:18

I love a bouquet of flowers, especially orchids.
Send them to me.

tchotchke · 13/02/2024 19:18

I dislike them too. I think its such a waste (and not cheap either).

TedWilson · 13/02/2024 19:24

Agreed. Why buy me flowers when you can buy wine or chocolate??

RosesAndHellebores · 13/02/2024 19:26

DH bought me a huge bunch of red roses on our first valentines day. I love flowers. But I really hate the mark-up for things like valentine's day. Ever since he gives me £20 and I buy a beautiful bunch of flowers reduced on 15th Feb 😀

Mybusyday · 13/02/2024 19:37

You should think yourself lucky that he bothers

You mean first world problem, surely!

Oh gosh yes!! Being very dim. Overpowered by the smell of flowers.

Mumof2NDers · 13/02/2024 20:09

I’d rather have a box of maltesers 😀

HRTQueen · 13/02/2024 20:13

I do not like romantic gestures at all makes me feel so uncomfortable

after heavily hinting to a new boyfriend I didn’t not want roses I revived huge chocolate teddy delivered to me at work holding a chocolate heart

there was no way I was carrying it on the train home I couldn’t break it up so I had to jump on it so it broke into small pieces I could put in a gym bag that I borrowed

Komencanto · 13/02/2024 20:16

I hate them. DH got me 2 small tubs of the mini daffs...currently looking lovely... then we will plant in the garden..I have a lot of daffs in the garden!

Catsmere · 13/02/2024 20:17

I don’t want them in my unit. I have no space and don’t own any vases, and I’d much rather see them growing outdoors than dying indoors. Plus I have cats, and so many plants are toxic for them.

MissingMoominMamma · 13/02/2024 20:20

I like flowers- daffs or tulips, but not big bouquets.

TheFormidableMrsC · 13/02/2024 20:27

Yes me. I bloody hate them. I've got a friend who buys me flowers fairly regularly and I wish she wouldn't. First sign of any sort of droop and they're gone. The only thing I really like is a pot of daffs or tulips which are available now. Otherwise, please don't waste your money 😬

YouJustDoYou · 13/02/2024 20:34

I asked my then fiance (now dh, of 21+years), to please never buy me flowers as I hate watching them die.

MrsKeats · 13/02/2024 20:35

What a miserable threadHmm

oobedobe · 13/02/2024 21:14

Never liked flower shop bouquets either! Had to tell my husband to stop buying them for birthday or mother's day. I'd rather he spent the money on a meal out or some other treat. They never last that long and like PP its work to find a vase, mind them, throw them out etc.

Always happy to have simple flowers brought for me, sunflowers, tuilips etc :)

It's not miserable its an opinion!

Mangoandbroccoli · 13/02/2024 21:40

There's a great company called 'Don't Buy Her Flowers' that was set up for the very reasons you describe not liking them! I love flowers but hated receiving them when grieving - I understood the sentiment but didn't want to go through the faff of unwrapping them, putting them in water etc and then continuing to look at them knowing they were only there because I was going through the worst thing that has ever happened to me 😞

You could just tell him.

weegiemum · 13/02/2024 21:44

I love having flowers in the house. I'm disabled and don't get out much and it's lovely to bring a little bit of outside inside!

But dh buys them, brings them in, sorts them unto a vase (actually a large terracotta jug we bought in Spain!) and he keeps an eye out for droopiness etc. I like mainly yellow flowers so we go from daffodils, tulips, roses, sunflowers .... then in autumn there aren't many yellow things so he goes for something else I love, the ornamental cabbages that look like roses! In the winter I have them less often but I have a Christmas cactus and other houseplants that flower so we've usually got a splash of natural colour!

After 30 years DH & DD know that a bunch of daffs bought on impulse hits the spot. Anything requiring me having to find a vase, find somewhere to put them and then try to make them look as good as they did in the shop is a big no from me.

This absolutely this!
