After all these interior design threads this is what I'm imagining everyone on mumsnets homes look like. Just curious if I'm way off because iv never been in a home like this. Maybe if the person is in their 80s. Do people really have bookshelves?

Do you have everything on a Kindle, or are you just not a reader, or are you in the 'read once and donate' camp?

The idea of having a house without bookshelves is quite simply horrific to me!!

Lol. No. Although we have lots of bookshelves, why wouldn't we?

Yes we have bookshelves (with books on!), no our house does not resemble those pictures.

Not really a reader but on occasion I read its either kindle app or I pass books over

My house doesn’t look like that but of course I have book shelves! With lots of books on!
Children who grow up in houses with books (regardless if they read them or not) achieve better academic outcomes than children who don’t.
I find it odd when people’s houses don’t have book shelves.

I can see why people might not have bookshelves if they just read fiction, there's the Kindle and often people pass on paperbacks. I have a lot of design/art books (related to my job), I find those sort of things don't translate well into digital copy. Although I have plenty of paperbacks too.

I can't imagine not having book shelves. Are you really stupid enough to think they're only for the over 80s?

I have 479 books on my kindle.

A few months ago for fun we estimated how many actually physical books Inhavw and came out with about 600.

My lounge has two "book walls" where the walls all have full height bookcases against them, full of books.

Most families with kids have a bookshelf for
Kids books if nothing else as most parents realise it is a good idea to get kids readings.

I'm just really struggling to envisage what kinds of homes people have as nobody seems to like anything except bookshelves, plants and lots of colour

Ours looks kind of similar yes

We have cupboards of books and boxes and boxes in the garage. You only see a few ‘on show’.
