"A schoolboy is in a serious condition in hospital after being mauled by what is believed to be an XL bully.

Merseyside Police were called to Wadham Road in Bootle just after 5.20pm on Saturday following reports a dog had bitten an eight-year-old boy to the head in the communal area of flats nearby.

The boy was rushed to hospital with serious head injuries and required emergency surgery. He remains in hospital in a serious but stable condition."

IMHO the ban doesn't go anywhere near far enough and all XL Bullys need to be put to sleep.

I worked with someone who had a family member who had an XL, it was their ‘baby’ as they had no children. It slept in their bedroom and one night started attacking them when they were asleep.
Very luckily they were able to get into the ensuite and call for help. They both had horrific bites. They were so lucky to be alive.

Yes enough is enough and obviously the new precautions aren’t enough. The consequences for owners should be massive.

That’s absolutely terrifying. How anybody could live with one of these animals is beyond me. Especially if they have children.

Proof, if proof were needed, that BSL doesn’t work.

In some ways I agree. We would be better off if there was a law that all bull breeds and any dog over a certain size had to be seized and destroyed. Not good for the gentle giants, sure, but we’d all get over it and breed specific legislation doesn’t work, according to some.

Oh god my NDN just got a pup XLB these news stories are worrying me :(

Are you in a different country, considering you just got a pup and they are banned in the UK.?

Out of all the available breeds, what made you want this breed?

I’m not sure how much truth is in this but I keep hearing about this dog Kimbo and how many dogs in the UK are related. Worrying if true.

https://www.lbc.co.uk/news/killer-kimbo-xl-bully-half-of-uk-pets-descended-one-us-dog/

Do you think the person breeding these dogs like a conveyer belt, ever, registered as a business and paid taxes? 🤔

YesSirMam · 11/02/2024 19:29

How can anyone own something that they could not control in an emergency. I couldn’t be in my house alone with my kids with one of those dogs knowing if it turned on them I couldn’t protect them. The stupidity of some people is beyond me. I know someone who has an XLB & 3 young kids. It’s madness

HistoryBufff3 · 11/02/2024 19:30

The one I have now comes from a top bloodline

What, like Killer Kimbo? The deadly XL in the USA who is found to be related to approx half of all XL's in the UK.

These dogs are grossly inbred. There's no such thing as a top bloodline. They should all be shot.

Please tell me you don't have children 😟

Jazminlovestheflowers · 11/02/2024 19:32

The cane corso are just as bad and need banning too.
I was in a relationship with a man a couple of years ago who owned one.
I was extremely cautious about introducing my teenage lads and 7 year old daughter to him.
After I had got to know the dog by myself without children for a couple of months , I thought it would be safe for my children to meet the dog.
I asked him if he had a muzzle as we could go for a walk and this dog was absolutely massive and I said other people may find him threatening, he laughed at me and said you've read too many papers.... the first time the dog met my daughter he instantly showed signs of jealousy ( I myself grew up around large dogs, however my family were very responsible dog owners and they always made sure the dogs knew the children came first , were muzzled , well looked after, lots of exercise etc so I knew what to look for in signs of a possessive dog as i had been taught)
Straight away the dog started circling my daughter , stealing her teddys , displaying destructive behaviours, pushing past her to get up the stairs , growled at her , that was the first and last time my children met that dog.
It was basically foaming at the mouth and incredibly boisterous.
I ended the relationship as I saw no future with this man after this.
His dog had clearly been spoilt and un socialised and never shown his place in the pack.
My instincts told me to end the relationship.
My kids will always come first.
Fast forward to a year later I heard he had got into a new relationship and the dog had gone for his new partners little boy , luckily it didnt get to him because I'm telling you these dogs are extremely strong, powerful, easily become dominant, bites as powerful as lions and it really frightens me that these dogs are not being banned as well!!!
I also found out from people that know him the reason he had such a powerful dog in the first place was for protection as he owed money to someone ... this was all after the relationship had ended.
Although I ended this as soon as my daughter met this dog and my instincts said it's not to be trusted, I still to this day regret that dog ever going near my children.
What I'm saying is they are very unpredictable, the dog was fine with me , gentle in fact for months before meeting my children, once meeting my children was fine with the boys but could see my daughter was the baby of the family and he didnt like it, so you never know what a dog can turn like in a certain situation.
I know I will get the people that say well chihuahuas , jack Russell bla bla bla can be vicious and jealous too... yeh of course they can but if a chihuahua or jack russell went for my daughter she would survive , if a cane corso or an xl bully went for my daughter she would die.
It's that simple and for the life of me I cannot get my head around anyone who thinks differently!!
You ANBU !!!

TripleDock · 11/02/2024 19:32

I think given what we know now, it should be in a category of child neglect, allowing kids to be put at risk by living with creatures like this. The dogs can be muzzled when outdoors, but inside, the muzzle can come off and it can attack whoever it wants.

Every bully dog is sweet and soft and lovely and soppy, until it isn’t.

Sorry, I meant the NNDN.i as having a moment. I would be worried too, but I'd also report them if there in the UK. It will be an illegal pup.

AUDHDVET · 11/02/2024 19:34

@ThisIsOk I think it’s the right decision not to let your son go if you aren’t comfortable. I have a retriever but if someone said they weren’t comfortable with my dog I wouldn’t think twice about it and would suggest meeting in the park or going for a McDonald’s or similar. These are big powerful dogs too, often 40-50kg+, my male retriever is 26kg

redboots765 · 11/02/2024 19:34

@todayshappening is clearly full of shit, a few weeks ago she living in flat...but now she has 5 acres for her xlBully. a week ago she was desperate for cost of living payment..now she's a wife with a husband with mutliple properties 😂😂😂
She can dream! 😁 she's not exactly normal. I feel sorry for her, having to make up so many lies.

“IMHO the ban doesn't go anywhere near far enough and all XL Bullys need to be put to sleep. “

Yes YABU for numerous reasons but I’ll keep it basic. You aren’t addressing the problem at the root cause- humans created this dog. They will go on to create and breed more of them and they will and are.
Nobody ever seems to want to hold the breeders to account, never.

So let’s put them all to sleep won’t have the effect you want. You’ll punish the responsible owners. The ones who haven’t bothered to go through exemption, who are STILL breeding these dogs very badly and beating them to encourage them to be nasty. I don’t know why people find this so difficult to comprehend, but you do.

MN is thankfully a very small proportion of the population- insignificant in fact (and known for dog hating). But still.

I very much doubt it. It’s very worrying though that a lot of these dogs in this country have the same bloodline as it and there’s been so many attacks.

I agree that the breeders need to be targeted. But nobody I meet in real life thinks that this particular breed should be allowed to continue like this. In your circle do people still think it’s not the breed, it is the owners?

Honestly even if it did punish the decent owners, this is exactly the same as the gun law argument. Guns are banned. Yes criminals still use them. It's still right that guns are banned

This makes no sense.

If all the dogs were seized and destroyed there wouldn’t be any to breed. If people were importing illegally they’d be breaking the law and the dogs should again be seized and destroyed. And why would anyone buy an illegal dog from a breeder knowing it would get…seized and destroyed?

What does it matter if humans created these dogs? Humans create all sorts of things. If the things that get created are a hazard they get banned or restricted.

Missingmyusername · 11/02/2024 19:54

@TripleDock What ‘circle’? 😂(I don’t own one). I’ve been around them - no issue. Very well behaved, soft. Not the hippo type version you see in the news.

XL bully isn’t a breed- it’s a set of measurements and there’s a ban. You cannot breed them so we are all safe … right? 🤔 Nope! Because you can guarantee some idiot will decide to dabble in creating the next monstrosity. You could cross a Turkish Kangal with a Presa Canario and it could end in disaster. Cane Corso will probably be next on the chavs wish list.

Missingmyusername · 11/02/2024 19:57

@WhatsTheUseOfWorrying 🤔So just let humans do what they want?
You don’t think other breeds could be created - probably already are. So just rinse and repeat is it? More humans die- but hey don’t worry! That makes perfect sense doesn’t it.

Missingmyusername · 11/02/2024 19:58

Also the current legislation means all dogs are neutered @WhatsTheUseOfWorrying so there you go- wish granted!

I think of all the hazards we are probably the worst!
