"A schoolboy is in a serious condition in hospital after being mauled by what is believed to be an XL bully.

Merseyside Police were called to Wadham Road in Bootle just after 5.20pm on Saturday following reports a dog had bitten an eight-year-old boy to the head in the communal area of flats nearby.

The boy was rushed to hospital with serious head injuries and required emergency surgery. He remains in hospital in a serious but stable condition."

IMHO the ban doesn't go anywhere near far enough and all XL Bullys need to be put to sleep.

AIBU?

Honestly even if it did punish the decent owners, this is exactly the same as the gun law argument. Guns are banned. Yes criminals still use them. It's still right that guns are banned

Guns are not banned in the UK, they are licenced and if you have a licence you can legally own and use one.

flashmcdoodle · 11/02/2024 20:04

@eatsleepfarmrepeat plenty of types of guns are banned in the U.K.

Some sorts of guns are banned.

@Jazminlovestheflowers and @Missingmyusername

At the start of the thread someone mentioned searches for these are through the roof.

I think we need a broad spectrum decision on dogs able to inflict so much damage.

Video not at all as hysterical as photo might indicate. It is by a dog trainer who clearly understands what these dogs can do, even by accident one broke his partner's shoulder.

Why Cane Corsos Are So DANGEROUS!

Have Cane Corsos just been the victim of poor media portrayal or are they as dangerous as the media makes them out to be? Let me explain why a Cane Corso can...

@TripleDock What ‘circle’? 😂(I don’t own one). I’ve been around them - no issue. Very well behaved, soft. Not the hippo type version you see in the news.

XL bully isn’t a breed- it’s a set of measurements and there’s a ban. You cannot breed them so we are all safe … right? 🤔 Nope! Because you can guarantee some idiot will decide to dabble in creating the next monstrosity. You could cross a Turkish Kangal with a Presa Canario and it could end in disaster. Cane Corso will probably be next on the chavs wish list.

Yes but I don't think they'll be adapted by clueless pit mummy's calling them fur babies, nanny dogs & putting them in flower crowns. All that shit causes as many problems as the hard man status dog stuff

No I'm not wishing for a pile on 🙄 I just wish people could be honest. Report me. they will see your lies😂

Did you get twitchy at being called out?

Missingmyusername · 11/02/2024 19:57

@WhatsTheUseOfWorrying 🤔So just let humans do what they want?
You don’t think other breeds could be created - probably already are. So just rinse and repeat is it? More humans die- but hey don’t worry! That makes perfect sense doesn’t it.

Which is a good argument for banning all bull breeds, mastiffs etc and all dogs over a certain size. The law should be protecting people not designing systems for dog lovers to own dangerous dogs.

Sorry, I just meant your social circle ie people that you know. I just wondered if everybody was more accepting of this breed than you see on mumsnet, that’s all.

Of course they are, but that’s not what you wrote, you stated that “guns were banned” which isn’t correct. A bit like applying the XL ban to all dogs…

TheWorldisGoingMad · 11/02/2024 19:25

Are you in a different country, considering you just got a pup and they are banned in the UK.?

Out of all the available breeds, what made you want this breed?

No. They’re still being sold all over social media.

I’m not advocating the breed and probably @TripleDock sound like I am. But what incenses me beyond belief is animal abuse, destruction, abandonment etc. The throw away attitude. “Destroy them all”. It doesn’t work!!!!!!! It isn’t the first ban either. Are people aware?

The difference is, humans are more entitled and increasingly stupid. We’ve stopped evolving, me want, me get! they don’t even train the ill bred dog, they bought from their mate for £300, that’s never been to a vet and never will.

I have been 1000% honest. I can see why you would be confused from my previous posts but you don't know my life, this is the internet. I've already explained my situation take from that what you will but don't say I am lying because you "think" you have cracked a case.

Yes, I don’t think the current rules will help much. There will be plenty of loopholes and human beings are stupid and selfish. And as I said before, there is a link with socioeconomic deprivation, and if things don’t improve in this country, I can see ownership of aggressive dogs increasing.

And whilst I am no dog-lover, I do feel uncomfortable with the idea of healthy dogs being put to sleep. I don’t have the solutions.

Emotionalsupportviper · 11/02/2024 16:21

You cannot profile people and refuse to sell dogs to them just because you don't like how they look/sound/walk/live.

Oh, yes you can!

I have only ever bred one litter, but I turned down prospective buyers without a second thought if I didn't like the look of them, or thought their children were too rough.

Unfortunately the back street breeders of this type of dog do not care who buys their dog whatsoever, all they care about is the cash.

Missingmyusername · 11/02/2024 20:18

@TripleDock - To answer and I apologise for sounding rude- yes I would say more accepting of the dogs who have fallen under the ban- this has affected people who now have to muzzle and leash their dog that was prior to the ban playing and socialising with other dogs.
People are going out of their way to pet the dog and talk to the owners.

I will add these dogs are nothing like the hippo type you see on the news!

flashmcdoodle · 11/02/2024 20:18

@TripleDock the situation you described regarding social deprivation & dog attacks is certainly playing out in America with pit attacks and poor people scared to go out unarmed because of the threat of pits

flashmcdoodle · 11/02/2024 20:20

It's been mentioned previously but I'd advise anyone who is on Reddit to take a look at the banpitbulls board

Missingmyusername · 11/02/2024 20:21

@WhatsTheUseOfWorrying That makes no sense. 😊I’ll leave it there.

@todayshappening I don't need to crack any case. Your posts are all conflicting, you live in a housing association flat...now you live in 5 acre farm with barn. (9 days dater)
You need a cost of living payment....now you have husband with multiple properties??

Are you saying you are ripping off a HA and stealing grants that you don't deserve?

Whatever really, I know a delusional liar when I meet one.

caringcarer · 11/02/2024 10:39

I agree. I can't understand why people would not prefer a smaller friendly dog in the first place. Those enormous dogs need to be walked miles and miles every day and I suspect many of them are shut up and not exercised enough.

I think that's true for Akitas, rottys etc If you keep them shut up inside they will (understandably) cause havoc because they need exercise/stimulation. The XXL Bully style dogs though have breathing difficulties due to their squashed faces and often serious joint issues. In some cases they are in constant pain. So in some cases they aren't actually capable of being walked miles and miles. Its the perfect pet for lazy cruel people who want a big tough dog.

Missingmyusername · 11/02/2024 20:25

@TripleDock “And as I said before, there is a link with socioeconomic deprivation, and if things don’t improve in this country, I can see ownership of aggressive dogs increasing.”

I pray you are wrong about this. I suppose you have hit the nail on the head though- these people don’t care about the dog. It’ll all go ‘underground’ anyway.

For all those know nothing of the breed. But think they do from a few news articles. Educate yourself.

Funny it is usually the breed apologists who claim everyone else should “educate themselves” whilst being in complete denial of the actual breed themselves.

IsEveryUserNameBloodyTaken · 11/02/2024 20:38

todayshappening · 11/02/2024 17:12

@Winter2020 I can't be arsed to argue with thickos on the internet that are brainwashed by the media I'm sorry. Either do your research or stay off the internet.

That’s rich coming from you.As per the other breed apologists you are spouting the “brainwashed by the media” spin.
Ah yes another line by the so called “educated” breed apologists “do your research”.
Unfortunately for you this information is available and it disproves your point that they are harmless.

The number of fatal dog attacks in the last two years or so is awful, and the number of fit adults killed by them horrifying. The boy was lucky to escape alive.

Yep and when you look at what's going on in the USA with pitbull attacks and fatalities we are very much heading on the same trajectory!

The government is always trying to appease, rather than putting their foot down when they need to. Tens of thousands of owners have their dogs exempt when in fact, the government should have come down hard on this and it should have been a mandatory PTS but no, too scared that they might offend people.

Fucking limp dick country we live in.
