"A schoolboy is in a serious condition in hospital after being mauled by what is believed to be an XL bully.

Merseyside Police were called to Wadham Road in Bootle just after 5.20pm on Saturday following reports a dog had bitten an eight-year-old boy to the head in the communal area of flats nearby.

The boy was rushed to hospital with serious head injuries and required emergency surgery. He remains in hospital in a serious but stable condition."

IMHO the ban doesn't go anywhere near far enough and all XL Bullys need to be put to sleep.

AIBU?

@TripleDock my husband has multiple property's, including a ha property that he is in the process of buying. It always is the most insecure person that goes digging to see what they can find on someone. ☺️ pathetic

Sparklesocks · 11/02/2024 18:49

That poor little boy. Can’t imagine how terrified he must’ve been and how traumatised he’ll be now with his injuries and what he went through. Absolutely disgusting, the owners should see jail time.

I am not insecure. But I am quite bored. And it is pretty pathetic that I’m sitting here on a Sunday night with nothing better to do than look back at your posts I admit! I am surprised that you have recently claimed a cost-of-living payment if your husband is a property magnate.

Anyway keep your kids safe. I hope it isn’t the bully that is pregnant from your post today:

todayshappening · Today 10:44
Morning, I'm taking one of my dogs for a scan today to see if she's pregnant and see how many are in there. Then it'll be a dog walk with the pack and kids.

I’m in a difficult situation as my son’s new school friend (they are 10) have an XL Bully and my son has been invited over there for tea next week 😬

His friend has been to our house a few times so his parents wanted to return the favour and I only learnt about there being an XL Bully in the house after I had said yes to their invite 😬

We live in a nice town, the kids go to a good school, we don’t live in a rough area with high crime levels or anything like that, and they are your typical “normal and respectable” people who have a nice house and good jobs etc. So they don’t fit the typical stereotype of the XL Bully owner.

My son is really excited but me and my DH have discussed it and we have decided not to let him go. We were very apprehensive about it anyway and worried about how to handle the situation seeing as we’d already said yes to the invite before knowing about the dog, but this article has confirmed that not letting our son go over is really our only choice.

I hope it doesn’t sour the relationship between me and the other child’s parents, or affect the friendship between our children, but I just can’t take the risk.

We haven’t told our son yet but he’s going to be really disappointed 😬

Very sensible, protecting your child from a dangerous dog. Rather he grumble he can’t go than he be mauled to death.

redboots765 · 11/02/2024 18:54

@todayshappening good lord you are clearly mad! No one claims to live in a HA property if they are living in a house with 5 acres and barn 😂😂 embarrassed for you.

I do live with ten acres, rural views and few neighbours...I would never post I live in HA property...nothing wrong with doing so. but I don't.

I can't secure all the land for an XLBully. That's a red flag, it costs thousand to secure land and it doesn't last, fencing degrades, dogs dig/jump.

Patchworksack · 11/02/2024 18:57

There have been c 22,000 successful exemption applications from an estimated 50,000 XL type dogs thought to be in the U.K. The government could make significant inroads if they had put ANY resources behind seizing and euthanising non-exempt dogs. There have been no additional resources for dog wardens or police DLOs to do anything at all about it. I would hazard a guess that the 22k ( many of whom do not have XL bullies but other large dogs that fit the description) are much less likely to be the ones causing fatalities.

Yes, you can’t let him go. When there are fatalities, it never seems to be the owner. It is always a visitor or relative. You cannot risk visiting a house which has one of these poor beasts living there.

They do if they are buying it. Can't buy an empty house it's gotta look occupied ☺️

eduwot · 11/02/2024 19:03

@todayshappening It must be hard to hear so much negativity about the breed of your dogs and assumptions around bully owners. However, you must recognise that your average XL bully owner (in the UK at least) does not have 5 acres for their dogs to run around in. I suspect your dogs lead a very different lifestyle to many other bullys.
The breeding of dogs which have a propensity for aggression anyway, without care for whether or not they exhibit aggression towards humans or not, is one part of the problem. Irresponsible dog ownership/lack of understanding the needs of dogs is another. There are many factors involved, but these dogs are undeniably a problem. I do have sympathy though. I feel for the dogs who have had freedom to run and be dogs, who will now have to remain on leads. It must be really hard as a responsible owner in this situation and It will undoubtedly affect the dog's behaviour. I don't think there's a better answer than BSL at the moment though. We can't keep having serious injury and deaths like this.

Oldtigernidster · 11/02/2024 19:03

Proof, if proof were needed, that BSL doesn’t work.

Today

can I ask what the registration process was like? Was it onerous or costly?

redboots765 · 11/02/2024 19:04

@todayshappening clearly you have some serious delusions of grandeur. I Feel for you. (genuinely) sad to have to lie about who you are. Sad to be embarrassed to own who you are.

25 for companion insurance
90 odd pound for the exemption so not costly at all if people didn't do it then they are fools because they had enough time.

There's been no lying what so ever, you've dug up some posts that doesn't tell much about my life at all. You know nothing. Your a stranger on the internet that is all.

Oh PSA 9 days ago @todayshappening was living in a housing association flat!!
Today she has 5 acres and barns.....

She was claiming cost of living payments a week ago...now her husband has a property portfolio!!!

DON'T THINK SHE"S GENUINE 😂😂😂

DaBlackCatsAreDaBestCats · 11/02/2024 19:12

Who the fuck would have one of these things as a pet? Surely it’s a statement. I thought the ugly fuckers were meant to be muzzled now. Unbelievable.

It's a house, it's in the process of being bought. What are you not understanding? We also live on a farm with 5 acres. I don't know what you think you've found on me but you have no clue.

dawngreen · 11/02/2024 19:15

Nothing ever changes except for the breed. These problems happen to losers who love the image , and drama. And people who don't understand dogs.

How can you have a housing association property on offer to buy if you have multiple other properties and a farm?

todayshappening · 11/02/2024 19:20

@DaBlackCatsAreDaBestCats you can have anything you want if it's not in your name.

LemonShirts · 11/02/2024 19:21

I worked with someone who had a family member who had an XL, it was their ‘baby’ as they had no children. It slept in their bedroom and one night started attacking them when they were asleep.
Very luckily they were able to get into the ensuite and call for help. They both had horrific bites. They were so lucky to be alive.

Yes enough is enough and obviously the new precautions aren’t enough. The consequences for owners should be massive.

You’d do well to just stop digging the hole and leave it. The general consensus is that XLB owners are unhinged individuals who are in denial/delusional about what their dogs are capable of and your arse about face story about farms and barns and HA properties isn’t really helping your case.
