"A schoolboy is in a serious condition in hospital after being mauled by what is believed to be an XL bully.

Merseyside Police were called to Wadham Road in Bootle just after 5.20pm on Saturday following reports a dog had bitten an eight-year-old boy to the head in the communal area of flats nearby.

The boy was rushed to hospital with serious head injuries and required emergency surgery. He remains in hospital in a serious but stable condition."

IMHO the ban doesn't go anywhere near far enough and all XL Bullys need to be put to sleep.

AIBU?

@todayshappening I have no idea what you are talking about. Do you need to stop sniffing the glue?

Which bit do you object to? the grandma being ripped apart and the neighbours listening to blood curdling screams for ten mins....I mean good lord set a timer, that's a long to time to be ripped apart by savage dogs...is it not?

Or you object to the obvious statement that someone with a Xl Bully is a type of person? Not all of course, but you suggested everyone should go to their local estate and confront XLBully owners. ???? You are painting a picture about yourself here!! You not me.

Bruisername · 11/02/2024 18:02

I always find out if there’s a dog in the house before my kids go round and they are very dog savvy.

i also always made sure parents knew we had a dog before their child visited and introduced the dog to them. If the child was uncomfortable dog stayed in another room with door firmly closed.

the only time one of my child has come home with an animal related injury it was from a cat!!

ArabellaScott · 11/02/2024 18:03

I suppose the idea is that within ten years they'll all be gone as nobody's supposed to breed them.

But how many more injuries, attacks and fatalities are we to put up with until then?

Ylvamoon · 11/02/2024 18:07

As an XL bully owner seeing this again saddens me. There’s a definite correlation between XL bully + irresponsible owner = dangerous dog. I know of a number of well looked after, well trained bullies who are so well behaved and none aggressive it shows how good a dog they can be

All I can say is: Ower beware! These dogs are not safe. No amount of experience and training can eliminate genetics.

Some types of dogs and some lines of breeding have this aggression or rage.
Most dog lovers have heard of Spaniel rage. Ther are a few show lines of some breeds that are well known for their aggression in the dog world. But once breeders find out, they don't use them for breeding.

I suspect that with the XLB the opposite happened.

I love dogs, I know about dogs, I know a bit about the genetics behind the breeding. I am in favour of pts for all of them.

RIP all victims of these dogs. 💐

I'm pointing out that you don't have the balls to go say these things to peoples face but are ok to call them out anonymously on the internet. Making you a keyboard warrior and we all know how dangerous keyboard warriors are.

Not as dangerous as these dogs. And stereotypical owners like you keeping several dogs including a bully in your property without any awareness at all. I feel for your neighbours.

Meadowfinch · 11/02/2024 13:52

Yes, they are need to be PTS.

We aren't allowed to keep lions in domestic homes and these creatures are equally dangerous. They all need to be euthanased now. We can't wait the 15 years for them all to die out.

On the up side, hopefully this couple will be imprisoned, then banned from ever keeping another dog, making the local community safer.

Perhaps the boy's family can bring a civil suit against them too, and bankrupt them, if they haven't bothered to get insurance. Penalties need to get MUCH harsher to get through to these selfish idiots.

Like the idea of financial as well as criminal consequences for these thicko owners. The trouble is most don’t have any money you can go after them for.

And that's exactly what you should do. I don't allow my children to go to others houses so I don't have this problem.

Will you continue to do that when they are teenagers?

Bargello · 11/02/2024 18:17

There is NO REASONING with these owners. Seriously, don't waste your breath (or typing time). They just will not deviate from their "my boy would never do that, he's well trained, it's all a media conspiracy, etc etc etc". Total waste of time.

Of COURSE there is a stereotypical "type" who owns these beasts. Like the wannabe gangsta rapper from Essex whose dogs mauled the granny last weekend. He's just the sort you could sit down with and have a reasonable convo with about the pros and cons of owning (unlicensed, illegally breeding) XL bullies, isn't he? Such a lovely chap. Normal people go out of their way to avoid people like him, not engage them in a debate.

Sooner these animals are rounded up and disposed of the better. It's not that they bring zero benefit to society, it's that they are regularly maiming and killing people.

redboots765 · 11/02/2024 18:18

Well I don't want to converse with people who think an XLBully is suitable in their home. Why would I? It's a statement isn't it, it's an anti social dog that has to be muzzled.

A dog that has the highest kill rate.

I would never send my child to stay or play with an XL Bully owner!

One of my favourite expressions. "I can explain it to you, but I can't help you understand it"

Sadly I think you have an XL Bully and children your house. Therefore, yes I'm making a judgment on your intelligence levels....

I'm no keyboard warrior, a normal person.

todayshappening · 11/02/2024 18:19

@TripleDock luckily I don't have any neighbours, my nearest is two miles away. And who said my dogs were in my property? I didn't ☺️ stop with the assumptions you haven't a clue lovely.

Because people who own them are bad bastards and people don’t fancy being knifed/ attacked by the thing they’re voicing a concern over. It’s really not a difficult concept to grasp and it doesn’t make anyone a keyboard warrior.

Some of your other posts do contribute to the stereotypical image of a bully owner I am afraid.

For all those know nothing of the breed. But think they do from a few news articles. Educate yourself.

Bull breeds where originally bred for bull baiting and fighting.

This is normal! Who wants to visit a house with a dog like this? Or let their children go there. No one who cares. The scrotes who still own them have little in their lives, they know owning one is transgressive and they like it power, and in that they have a bit in common with the name, bully. A good person has a safe home for family and guests. It's a game of being antisocial or perhaps being isolated so that these dogs are protection. Not safe either way.

Dragonsmother · 11/02/2024 18:26

Its heartbreaking to keep hearing of people being injured or killed by them.
Putting them all the sleep isn’t the solution as so many people will dump them.
Just yesterday I friend argued with us about how safe his XL Bully is as we had said we don’t want our child round his house anymore. I don’t question him as a dog owner, I question how unpredictable the breed is.

eduwot · 11/02/2024 18:29

@HashBrownandBeans The Cane Corso does not come under this BLS. Confirmed by several insurance companies (I work with dogs).

ThisIsOk · 11/02/2024 18:29

I’m in a difficult situation as my son’s new school friend (they are 10) have an XL Bully and my son has been invited over there for tea next week 😬

His friend has been to our house a few times so his parents wanted to return the favour and I only learnt about there being an XL Bully in the house after I had said yes to their invite 😬

We live in a nice town, the kids go to a good school, we don’t live in a rough area with high crime levels or anything like that, and they are your typical “normal and respectable” people who have a nice house and good jobs etc. So they don’t fit the typical stereotype of the XL Bully owner.

My son is really excited but me and my DH have discussed it and we have decided not to let him go. We were very apprehensive about it anyway and worried about how to handle the situation seeing as we’d already said yes to the invite before knowing about the dog, but this article has confirmed that not letting our son go over is really our only choice.

I hope it doesn’t sour the relationship between me and the other child’s parents, or affect the friendship between our children, but I just can’t take the risk.

We haven’t told our son yet but he’s going to be really disappointed 😬

My dogs don't live in my house. We live on a farm with 5 acres. They live in barns and don't step foot in my home. Does that fit the stereotype for you? Or was you hoping I lived in a high rise flat.

todayshappening · 11/02/2024 18:38

@TripleDock oh yeah? Enlighten me?

crumblingschools · 11/02/2024 18:40

What’s the point of having them @todayshappening if they don’t come in the house. Not exactly socialised

I live below. I live in a HA property. No credit cards or loans. Cars I buy second hand outright. I'm am paying into an iva which will be cleared next year.*

Your post from nine days ago. Do HA have farms like this on their books? Genuine question.

redboots765 · 11/02/2024 18:40

honestly @todayshappening my judgments of you based on your comments.
You encouraged people to go to estates and confront owners....normal people won't do that 🙄 for obvious reasons.
I live rurally in a farm community with land, I know how difficult it is to secure land. Dogs living in barns are not pets. they don't get the socialisation needed, so yes you do fit the stereotype.

redboots765 · 11/02/2024 18:43

@TripleDock 😂 obviously she's full of shit!! 😂😂
