"A schoolboy is in a serious condition in hospital after being mauled by what is believed to be an XL bully.

Merseyside Police were called to Wadham Road in Bootle just after 5.20pm on Saturday following reports a dog had bitten an eight-year-old boy to the head in the communal area of flats nearby.

The boy was rushed to hospital with serious head injuries and required emergency surgery. He remains in hospital in a serious but stable condition."

IMHO the ban doesn't go anywhere near far enough and all XL Bullys need to be put to sleep.

AIBU?

@Winter2020 I can't be arsed to argue with thickos on the internet that are brainwashed by the media I'm sorry. Either do your research or stay off the internet.

Is it all a media conspiracy?

Is there no child in hospital after being attacked on his head today?

Is it not true that XL bully breeds have been responsible for 50% of fatal dog attacks in the UK since 2020 despite making up only a small % of dogs in the UK i.e. they are vastly over-represented in fatal dog attacks.

Perhaps you should do some research into dog attacks and particularly fatal dog attacks carried out by your breed of choice.

Which part of this information is untrue/a conspiracy?

Wanting our children to be safe to walk about near their homes without getting attacked/put in hospital or killed by an out of control dog is not unreasonable.

Yes if every XL Bully has to be put down to stop one more child being mauled that is fine with me.

YANBU. I came face to face with one in the supermarket the other day, unmuzzled (Scotland). The sooner they ban them completely the better. Imposing rules which rely on people abiding by them just doesn’t work. The majority of owners don’t give a shit about the law.

todayshappening · 11/02/2024 17:34

@LyingWitchInTheWardrobe 1!? Out of hundreds of comments? Is that what we're calling a majority of comments now? 1?! Dear god.

And I didn't reference it once.

Rainbowunicornsparkles · 11/02/2024 17:35

I hope they didn’t feel pain, I hope the children in particular just lost consciousness very quickly and didn’t realise what was happening.

Quizine · 11/02/2024 17:35

Why not ban all domestic pets in urban areas? There is not enough room for humans in some places, let alone dogs who bark endlessly, shit on the pavement, leave their hair everywhere and jump all over you when off the lead, small or big they are a bloody nuisance now. Can't even go for a coffee or to the shops without dogs being brought for a day out.

What if dogs were only allowed if they are working dogs. Meaning aids for the blind, disabled, autistic, deaf whatever, together with professionally worked dogs such as police, drug sniffers, airport control, sheepdogs and so on.

Not only are urban areas plagued, but sheep worrying is another appalling thing to observe. And of course the dogs that worry sheep are more often than not out for a walk in the country with their urban owners.

Time to get tough is now. Tinkering around the edges of this is not enough anymore.

I am the survivor of a dog attack in my local park. I still bear the painful remnants of that terrifying incident to this day, more than ten years later. Not good enough. And it was a medium sized dog, not one of those monster sized things either.

Mumofyellows · 11/02/2024 17:37

This is so very sad. I have two beautiful large dogs (labs) and would happily comply with a licence etc if it reduced the number of irresponsible breeders and dogs like this. Poor little boy 😢

redboots765 · 11/02/2024 17:37

@Waitingfordoggo I can't even imagine the pain, I had two cuts to my fingers, I cried for a long time and it took weeks to heal. It's nothing like being mauled by one of these dogs 😢 I can't think of many worse ways to die. Grandma must have been terrified.

Yes the poor boy, that's a lifetime of trauma, yet we have posters who have them plus children in their house🤯

todayshappening · 11/02/2024 17:38

@TripleDock would you tell them that to their face? I bet you wouldn't. Ok to jump on the bandwagon on here though where you can hide behind mn 😏 get down to your local housing estate to today and tell them.

Of course I would not say anything to their face. They are not the kind of people I would want to have any kind of discussion about anything with. Do you buck the stereotype I wonder?

Anyway, you are the one that started calling people ‘thickos’ on this thread, would you say that to people’s faces?

Gloriosaford · 11/02/2024 17:45
Dallas Texas, a few days ago, I guess the pitbull type dog was just trying to help her in case a ceasarian was required? These things are used by would be alpha males to dominate & terrify neighborhoods. Numerous footage of cases where the creatures burst out of nowhere & attack people.

I guess she would if she had her darling land shark with her?

redboots765 · 11/02/2024 17:48

@todayshappening No of course she wouldn't. Owners of XL Bullies are a type of person. NO one "tells them to their face" or questions them. That dog is a clear statement...I am am anti social, be afraid of me.

You might not know that 🙄

Just like the poor grandma ripped apart...the neighbours did nothing, they could hear horrific screaming for ten minuets, they didn't investigate...they went inside and locked the doors!!! They didn't even ring the police (and I don't blame them)

Do you think that happens in nice areas? with nice dogs?

todayshappening · 11/02/2024 17:48

@Winter2020 they won't be true American bully's. There's no dna test to determine an American bully. Anything that meets the height requirements and resembles a bully breed is being determined an xl bully. Don't you think it's weird how all these attacks have come from "xl bully's" but there is 4 sizes pocket, classic, standard, xl. Why's there no attacks/killings from a classic bully? Only xl the only difference is the size of there legs everything else is the same.

'pitbull type dog' is the best term for these highly dangerous creatures

OhmygodDont · 11/02/2024 15:07

So relevant to this attack but I’m on some camping pages and xl owners have been asking what sites will still allow them. Some have said they will be.

Do these Xl’s will be muzzled full time for upto a week or two to be able to be on the family holiday in a tent… which when it’s hot it’s boiling. Or are they going to break the law and not muzzle. Neither sound like good owners tho.

We have a few camping pods and 4 chalets, we live in Scotland. As soon as the ban was announced in England we could have booked every one of them four times over with people calling to book and I’m talking from January onwards. Most of them were wanting holidays with these type of dogs and the amount of times I heard “we want him/her to run free”. We have decided that we’ll only accept certain breeds now, photos are required of the dogs before they arrive too. Needless to say once the restrictions were announced in Scotland we had a good few cancellations especially when asked to provide a photo of their dog….

todayshappening · 11/02/2024 17:50

@TripleDock I never started that, people are passive aggressive on here with their comments but don't want to tag you. If you look through the thread you'll see what I mean.

Gloriosaford · 11/02/2024 17:53

All we can do it report report report, any time you see a pitbull type dog.
And give them a very wide berth, do not engage with the owners, there's no point they are too in love with the dog to see sense.

Perhaps the Government needs to employ you and your telepathic powers to determine what is a "true" American Bully and what is not then. After all a DNA can't do it.

Or alternatively we could decide that that is a load of nonsense and put them all down.

What do you propose we do ... just leave all the dogs be and after a dog kills you can say "another one that wasn't a true american bully" each time - very helpful.

Itsabouttimeformetogetonthefloor · 11/02/2024 17:55

100% YANBU!! The type of cunts that own these things aren’t known for abiding by the law. Unless the gov wants law abiding people to start carrying weapons to defend themselves, they should all be pts asap.

Ah keyboard warriors then, knew it. Keyboard warriors are the type to tell a 13 year old girl she's ugly and bully her under a fake account.

Quizine · 11/02/2024 17:55

The new rules are like using a nut to crack a sledgehammer. Futile.

They did try to help and went there with spades. I heard this on the news. Another Mner saw news footage where spades were clearly visible.

I wish people would stop making shit up

todayshappening · 11/02/2024 17:57

@Gloriosaford go and educate yourself you sound silly. The Pitbull is heavily diluted. Anyway why only focus on the Pitt aren't you forgetting that the ab has several other breeds in it.

TrixieFatell · 11/02/2024 17:57

I saw my first one muzzled today. The owners were talking to a woman about how sad it was they had to be muzzled whisky the dog was lunging at people walking by.

The ban doesn't go far enough. I'm terrified my children will be attacked. I've already told them that if they go round anyone's house and there's a bully style dog there they leave immediately.

ThisIsOk · 11/02/2024 18:01

Whenever I see the words “life changing injuries” it just breaks my heart.

An innocent child’s future completely changed as a result of a vicious animal. It’s so wrong.

How anyone can defend these dogs is beyond me.
