Suddenly he's everywhere? He's the new Ore Oduba/Stacey Dooley/pet project.

I'm sorry I just don't get him.

He was very good on QT the other night.

gingeristhenewblack43 · 10/02/2024 09:41

He's everywhere because he needs to make some money due to his impending divorce.

quisensoucie · 10/02/2024 09:43

That Joel Dommet is everywhere too

MandyMotherOfBrian · 10/02/2024 09:43

I always assume that it’s because the BBC agree a fee for someone (anyone of the ones you mentioned) and, once they’ve signed, the BBC really need to get their moneys worth out of them whilst they’ve got them.

TheAverageJoanne · 10/02/2024 10:05

I don't get why he's so popular though. He was given a leg up by Peter Kay

He made James Daly uncomfortable very quickly.

OK OP - you don't like him. Opinions vary, thankfully.

ExtraOnions · 10/02/2024 10:24

BBC need to find something for him to do .. they have given him “Inside the Factory” now Wallace has left - you would think it couldn’t get worse than Wallace, and they put McGuniness in there.

He is a person with very little natural talent. He’s a terrible “stand up” as he’s not funny, and can’t interact. He’s been lucky so far, but his luck is running out .. and he has been living well behind his means.

Brendabigbaps · 10/02/2024 10:26

Not much makes me turn off radio 2 but he does when he’s on. Already looking for podcasts for when her covers Rylan’s show for a month

Seeline · 10/02/2024 10:27

I don't like him but I assume as he ruined his last two shows resulting in them both being shelved, the BBC have got to find something for him to do.

I don't find him remotely funny, and he is useless in live situations - Children in need, One Show type programmes.

That's pissed me off big time.

He rode Peter Kay's tailcoats significantly to where he is now. I don't find him that bad but I am wondering why he is where he is based on his own talents.

jackstand · 10/02/2024 11:32

He was funny in Phoenix nights. After that. Not so much

JesusMaryAndJosephAndTheWeeDon · 10/02/2024 11:35

He's dreadful, he ruined topgear for me and I won't be listening while he's on Radio two.

Oh come on, Top Gear was ruined the moment Chris Evans showed up. I've no love for Paddy, but it was a definite improvement over the couple of years beforehand

tennesseewhiskey1 · 10/02/2024 11:41

I don’t even know who he is. Tell you who is on TV everywhere tho - Bradley Walsh. 🤣🤣

BarelyLiterate · 10/02/2024 11:46

This is what happened when media organisations run by privately educated Oxbridge graduates select presenters in order to tick diversity & inclusion boxes, rather than ability. McGuinness is obviously northern (tick) & working class (tick), so whether he is any good is irrelevant. See also Alex Scott, Josie Gibson etc etc.

Bluevelvetsofa · 10/02/2024 12:47

A Question of Sport went down the pan pretty quickly after he was drafted in. I loathe his exaggerated accent and especially so on that hideous On The Beach advert.

MoonWoman69 · 10/02/2024 12:48

Totally overexposed, like a lot of other tv "stars"! I loved him in Phoenix Nights, did actually like him as part of the trio on Top Gear, as I think the Evans and LeBlanc appearances spoilt that one!
But he's now on everything and is thoroughly annoying! Didn't know about his impending divorce though?! I thought him, his wife and kids were all tight, especially after the autism reveal...

Flora56 · 10/02/2024 12:57

He was absolutely brilliant on QT talking about the horrendous state of uk dentistry.

It is a distiinguishable accent
Iim a Bolton resident .

mids2019 · 10/02/2024 14:08

Oh come on we need more professional northerners on TV? More exaggerated Lancashire , Yorkshire and North Eastern accents to make the media industry look diverse..

Sorry but being from the north and with a perceptible accent the preponderance of big name presenters that market their northern working class credentials is worrying . It seems like the accent is meant to convey a 'blokey' or 'earthy' persona with an implication of being less educated. I don't like these cliches

The On The Beach advert makes me laugh. The first time we saw it we thought he was saying ‘fooking genius’ & I giggle childishly every time.
