To serve this at a kids party?

party for 6 year old. It’s in a hall. Venue doesn’t do food or have a kitchen, it’s around dinner time so I’m not sure the usual sandwich would be appropriate. I was thinking of ordering a few large margarita pizzas and having veg sticks as well. With a piece of fruit and small packet of biscuits for each child too. It’s not healthy I know! Would you be ok with takeaway pizza ? Any alternatives or anything else I should serve with it?

Pizza is fine. It's a party. Forget the veggie sticks.

Comedycook · 02/02/2024 11:40

That sounds fine...but I also think sandwiches sound fine too. Just because it's at dinner time, I wouldn't necessarily expect hot food.

Homesweethome23 · 02/02/2024 11:40

Been to many many parties where pizzas were ordered and they always went down a treat! Love if there was extra and parents got a slice😉

NotFastButFurious · 02/02/2024 11:40

I'd save yourself the effort of chopping up veg sticks cos it won't get looked at if there's pizza! Check there's no dietary requirements too.

Idontjetwashthefucker · 02/02/2024 11:42

Forget the biscuits and fruit, pizza is good, just make sure there's enough!

LaurieFairyCake · 02/02/2024 11:42

Pizza has the same constituents as a lovely tasty sandwich

Bread/cheese/veg

Sounds perfect !

I have no idea why anyone would think pizza isn't healthy. Madness.

ColleenDonaghy · 02/02/2024 11:45

We've been at a few parties that did this, popular all round. Agree about checking re allergies and not wasting time chopping veg sticks that will just be ignored!

Fredthefrog · 02/02/2024 11:46

I've been to parties with pizza. My kids are weird and don't heat it but I think it is a great option. I wanted to do it this year but see above so we're having sandwiches for dinner which isn't great but ... its a free meal and parents can top up at home if needed.

Fionaville · 02/02/2024 11:51

I've done that exact thing. It's a kids birthday party, normal parents aren't looking at the nutritional value of the food.
I put crisps, carrot and cucumber sticks out with the pizzas. Then fairy cakes. It all went down a treat.

Cheeesus · 02/02/2024 11:53

Yes, sounds lovely and very normal. I would do a few veg sticks and also lots more crisps than you think, plus biscuits/cakes.
They also seem to be fine with cold (room temp) pizza if you want to make it easy and just bring ready cooked with you.

Mothership4two · 02/02/2024 11:57

Pizza and sandwiches are OK party food. Don't do many veg sticks as they tend to be ignored.

Divebar2021 · 02/02/2024 12:03

i think pizza is fine ( although I guarantee someone won’t eat it) but the rest sounds a bit measly. I’d still have cup cakes / party rings, crisps and platters of fruit kebabs.

Soubriquet · 02/02/2024 12:07

It’s a party. Pizza is entirely appropriate

Gawdimold · 02/02/2024 12:09

We had domino’s delivered for my daughters birthday . Went down a treat

WaltzingWaters · 02/02/2024 12:11

Pizza is fine for a party! You could also do pre-cooked pizza, sausage rolls, crisps etc if you wanted to keep it cheaper than ordering pizza. Cook in advance and tin foil, or just cold/room temp- I’m sure nobody will be bothered!

Growlybear83 · 02/02/2024 12:12

I think pizzas are great for children's parties, with maybe a few sandwiches for children who don't like pizza, and some nice chocolate biscuits or cake. Don't bother with vegetable sticks or fruit - the children are meant to be enjoying themselves!

eurochick · 02/02/2024 12:14

Pizza is fine and a popular choice for parties here. Contrary to most other responses, I have seen things like cherry tomatoes and cucumber get snapped up alongside the pizza.

Blughbablugh · 02/02/2024 12:15

I would fo sandwiches as well as some kids may not like pizza, my 6 year old doesn't.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 02/02/2024 12:15

Fine I did this - note, the veggie sticks don’t get eaten :)

I dunno. I’ve been to parties where the veggie stuff gets gobbled first and the sweets are left

@Growlybear83

are you really 40?

lots of children ENJOY veg sticks & fruit 🙄🙄

@Stayanotherway

pizza is totally fine. I'd do a bowl of sausage rolls, veg sticks, crisps (wotsits/quaver type), fruit, biscuits and a cake or cupcakes, that'll be nice & should cover any child that doesn't eat pizza.

personally I wouldn't serve fizzy drinks to others 6 year olds, just squash.

NachosAndCheese · 02/02/2024 12:29

Mine would love that. They wouldn’t touch the veg sticks.

But check for allergies like gluten and dairy.

LondonLovie · 02/02/2024 12:37

Do this all the time for my kids and in fact most parents do. Kids love it

How bizarre - why would you think I'm 40? I'm 66 and I've yet to find a young child who would eat fruit or vegetable sticks when they were out of sight of their parents if there was anything else available !

Mynewnameis · 02/02/2024 12:45

Fairly common but people don't always bother with the veg
