To serve this at a kids party?

party for 6 year old. It’s in a hall. Venue doesn’t do food or have a kitchen, it’s around dinner time so I’m not sure the usual sandwich would be appropriate. I was thinking of ordering a few large margarita pizzas and having veg sticks as well. With a piece of fruit and small packet of biscuits for each child too. It’s not healthy I know! Would you be ok with takeaway pizza ? Any alternatives or anything else I should serve with it?

Is this unusual in the UK? Here in the US, pizza is like the default food for kids’ parties.

So I say you are not being unreasonable. 😁

Not really. It was served at my boys activity type parties

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 02/02/2024 14:20

Sounds great! I don’t think anyone will expect the veg sticks tbh but I do think some kids like them - my Dd would have but not so much ds 😂

tara66 · 02/02/2024 14:25

A large fruit plate of arranged different fruit looks good - if you want that.

Spiderzed · 02/02/2024 14:28

Check for allergies but pizza is great for a party! Children don't tend to eat loads and loads, and it's probably not that much more than the unappealing cold, beige offerings most people have whereby tonnes gets chucked out at the end!

PhoenixStarbeamer · 02/02/2024 14:29

Fab idea. I've been to kids bday parties where they've had pizza delivered, gone to the chip shop and where they've got out loads of rolls and just heated hotdogs. Kids love it and less stress for parents.

SuperSange · 02/02/2024 14:31

Just check that everyone likes pizza-not everyone does!

The 83 could have been your year of birth 1983. All my dc love veggie sticks and fruit. It's not that unusual.

😆😆 It could, but it's not. What an odd assumption to make!

I always assume a number in a username is a YOB if it's a sensible number for that!

Done this myself before ow. Costco cooked pizzas an hour before the party then there wad a fish & chip shop in the village that was open for lunch as it was Saturday.
6 pizzas 8 portions of chips
Bottled water, Carton drinks & fairy cakes, crisps.... things from packets. With some paper plates and tongs/food picks from pound land that I didn't mind going in the bin.
Went down a treat and wad so easy. Don't worry about the veg if parents want to feed veg they will get it in their kids evening meal

Jules912 · 02/02/2024 15:02

Pizza is fine but either have an alternative or check they actually like it. I once did this and dutifully checked for allergies, none, all good until one girl turned up and declared she didn't like pizza. Fortunately party was at home so could rustle up a sandwich for her but was a bit awkward!

RobertaFirmino · 02/02/2024 15:38

Please may I come to the party?

lookwhatyoudidthere · 02/02/2024 15:41

Another vote for pizza. Cake too hopefully 🤞

TheChosenTwo · 02/02/2024 15:44

I’ve done this before when we had a gaming bus party (which was absolutely excellent btw), they were in there for an hour and a half, came in and played football in the back garden for half an hour and then the pizzas were delivered. Absolute win - least stressful party I ever hosted at home!
Plus we were even able to order a gluten free one as per a request from a parent.

puddypud · 02/02/2024 15:48

It doesn't need to be healthy! It's a party! Scrap the fruit and give them a cupcake!

No it's very normal to have pizzas here too. I've noticed MN doesn't always reflect what people actually do in real life.

Mariposistaaa · 02/02/2024 15:56

Never mind what WE think! It’s the kids who have to eat it and let’s be honest, the only kids who don’t like pizza are weird!

Great idea OP! Enjoy the party!

I always used to put out veg sticks as part of a birthday buffet. One time I was feeling quite chuffed that one little boy kept coming back for more of them - not a little boy noted for his fondness for healthy food either. I later learned that he had discovered the guinea pigs in the upstairs bedroom and had been feeding all the bits of pepper, cucumber and carrot to them. They had a feast that day!

Livilalaland567 · 02/02/2024 16:24

Personally I'd do different sandwiches, crisps, veg sticks, sausage rolls etc.. as children can be fussy so it's better to provide a choice rather than just one thing.

reluctantbrit · 02/02/2024 16:42

We did pizza and DD went to parties where pizza was served.

We did cherry tomatoes, bowels of grapes and strawberries.

whoateallthecookies · 02/02/2024 16:42

We've done pizza at several of DD's parties - usually ordered from Dominos.

We mention it on the invitation, and ask parents to let us know if it won't work.

We've also found that enormous quantities of hulled, chopped strawberries disappear at parties (though this isn't the best time of year for them) if you wanted something healthy.

We no longer bother with veg/salad, having been left with the vast bulk of it when we offered it.

karmakameleon · 02/02/2024 13:05

We went to party where the parents had decided not to bother with the veg sticks. My very confused DS asked the mum where the cherry tomatoes were (he was only four so can be forgiven). Luckily she pulled a packet out the fridge and all the kids pounced on them!

This is the most 'Overheard In Waitrose' thing I've seen in years

KreedKafer · 02/02/2024 16:53

I loved fruit and veg as a child too, but if I was at a party I still wouldn't have chosen them over a slice of pizza. Pretty sure that when I went to parties as a kid, I made a fairly conscious decision to forego the carrot sticks and slices of apple in favour of the iced gems and chocolate mini-rolls.

Growlybear83 · 02/02/2024 12:44

How bizarre - why would you think I'm 40? I'm 66 and I've yet to find a young child who would eat fruit or vegetable sticks when they were out of sight of their parents if there was anything else available !

@Growlybear83

your user name.

shame at 66, you've never known any children who like & woukd choose fruit or veg.

I assure you they exist.

SleepingMermaid · 02/02/2024 17:02

How many kids are coming and how many pizzas are you going to order? My experience is you need more than you think, some kids early A LOT

maddiemookins16mum · 02/02/2024 17:08

DD had a Line Dancing Party for her 9th. Pizzas were delivered and I did fruit kebabs and birthday cake.
