I am 33 and really want my nose pierced, I mentioned it to my mum and she said do not do that its awful and makes me look a bad influence to the children?

Are you me? I'm 34 and want my nose pierced but also scared of my mum and her judgemental views 🤣

Laiste · 29/01/2024 11:02

It's totally up to you.

Loads of people like the look and loads of people don't.

You have to do what pleases you.

How old are your kids and would you let them have their noses pierced at 16, say?

Maireas · 29/01/2024 11:02

How ridiculous. Nose piercing is very mainstream. Just like a dolphin or flower tattoo. Hardly counter cultural. Go for it!

Barb90 · 29/01/2024 11:04

My children are 6 and 3, I think its looks lovely with a little dainty diamond but now my mum has made me feel like I am being ridiculous.

My mum was horrified when I had my nose pierced for my 50th. She was doubly horrified when DS had his done last year, I’m a bad influence apparently.

KreedKafer · 29/01/2024 11:05

What the hell's it got to do with your mother? You're 33 years old and it's none of her business. Just get it done.

A nose-piercing these days isn't unusual or rebellious at all. Of course you won't be setting a bad example, ffs!

Your mum is the one setting a bad example, by being weird and judgemental of other people's appearances.

Maireas · 29/01/2024 11:06

Ignore your mum - if you like it, that's all that matters.

Go for it and good luck! I was going to go tomorrow but i have a spa day on Saturday so figured an extra week can't hurt when I've wanted to do it for years

InglouriousBasterd · 29/01/2024 11:07

Haha - I was the same age OP and I didn’t tell my mum until it was done as I knew she’d hate it! She doesn’t even notice it now! Go for it!

Arabaloosa · 29/01/2024 11:09

Go for it! I have a dainty diamond on one side, and a very fine, snug ring in the other. I'm 36. Just be aware your jewellery will be a bit looser and chunkier until the healing process has finished, then you can pop the dainty stuff in

GimmeSleep · 29/01/2024 11:10

This is why I don't tell my mum what I'm planning to do ever 😂

beeNqueen · 29/01/2024 11:12

Been there done that, IME - just do it your mum will have to eventually learn to live with it.

FeathersAndDown · 29/01/2024 11:13

I'm also 34 and considering a nose piercing! I got a tattoo a couple of months ago and was absolutely terrified about what my mum was going to say! She actually quite likes it... I think she took it so well because I only told her afterwards! She knows I'm getting another one soon and she keeps asking why I don't just use Henna 🤣

New2024 · 29/01/2024 11:14

I think in general it stopped being something people think twice about decades ago.

In the mid 90s one of the younger members of staff I line managed asked for a private meeting about a ‘career related matter’. I thought she was going to ask which library schools were best 😂 It was would interviewers etc. be put off by a nose piercing. I said, some maybe, but only the old school types. She had it done, it suited her. Within a year or so it had become really fashionable.

It generally looks good, so glad you have gone for it OP.

oblada · 29/01/2024 11:15

Same here. Got it done without telling my parents. They hate the ideas of tattoos and piercings. I have a nose piercing, eyebrow and now helix. And quite a few tattoos (though all hidden if need be as I have quite a professional job). I know they were not keen but they still love me and they are decent people so they just don't say anything. They haven't avoided me so I reckon they got used to it LOL as mentioned I am in a professional role, often in Court or similarly formal set up and no one has ever batted an eyelid. It's not a big deal nowadays really.

Emmylou22 · 29/01/2024 11:15

DO IT! I always wanted it done but my ex-husband said (when we were married) that he'd hate it. When we split, I got it done. I love it! If you hate it, you can always take it out and it'll close up.

Be warned, mine took about 8 months to heal properly. Make sure you follow the aftercare advice.

dreamcatchmee · 29/01/2024 11:31

I was scared of having my nose pierced because of what my parents would say but I went for it at age 26, I absolutely LOVE it. It's part of me. Last year I even asked for a little solid gold hoop as a gift and it's perfect. If you want it, go for it :)

dreamcatchmee · 29/01/2024 11:32

Also wanted to add, I'm 33 now. 7 years later still loving it.

ChedderGorgeous · 29/01/2024 11:33

Looks a bit old and desperate at 33yrs old to me but also, don't let your mum put you off. Be prepared for views like mine though !

Flottie · 29/01/2024 11:33

I’m 31 and got my nose pierced when I was 29 I love it. Just do it and ignore your mum. There’s some really nice pieces out there too I currently have a BVLA star with a diamond in there and love love love it :)

SusanSHelit · 29/01/2024 11:35

I got my nose pierced at 32 and my first tattoo at 33. My mum doesn't approve of either but tbh I don't really care, it's my face and my arm, I like how they look and I get far more compliments than derogatory comments on both.

Just do it op, if you don't love it you can always take it out and if you do love it then it really doesn't matter what anyone, even your mother, thinks!

I find this mindset fascinating- it’s a wee bit of jewellery, whats ‘old and desperate’ about that? Op, go for it, I’m planning getting the other side of my nose done when I’m finished breastfeeding because I think double nostril piercings are neat, and I’ll probably be 35 ish then!

MyopicBunny · 29/01/2024 11:36

I want to get my nose pierced - I think it looks pretty. My friend said 'That's a lesbian thing to do'. Where to even begin with that?? 🙈

bringincrazyback · 29/01/2024 11:37

Go for it! I had mine done at 32. Never regretted it and still rocking a nose stud in my mid-50s. 😄
