A nose piercing is no different to ear piercings.

I’m the same age as you and I’ve had it for 20+ years and I still love it.

My child has not (so far) turned out to be a hooligan because of it.

whiteroseredrose · 29/01/2024 13:09

I think they look horrid but there are lots of things that people do to themselves that I think look horrid.

You're not doing it for me or your mum. You are doing it for yourself.

If you think you'll like it, do it.

LittleMissSleepyUK · 29/01/2024 13:50

Go for it!!!! I didn’t tell mine in advance and I’m in my 40s

MrsCharlieD · 29/01/2024 13:54

I'm 40 and got my nose pierced at 34. I love it, just a small silver ring. Mind you I am also heavily tattooed and a goth so I'm probably not your target audience lol. I'm all for doing anything that will make me happy (within bounds of the law and common decency of course)!

Looks a bit old and desperate at 33yrs old to me but also, don't let your mum put you off. Be prepared for views like mine though !

Had mine done at 40. I'm now 57. Am I old and desperate? Probably. Meh. All out of fucks to give 🤷

DemBonesDemBones · 29/01/2024 14:51

It used to be for alternative people but now it's part of a mummy uniform. Skinny jeans, boots, duvet coat and nose ring. So basic, as the kids say!

VolvoFan · 29/01/2024 15:00

I'm 36, sadly no kids. I got my nose pierced on both sides at 28. I removed them and let them close at 32 because I got bored of them and they started to annoy me. My nose is long and thin and the posts would touch the inside of my septum and push the studs out. It looked stupid and every time I adjusted it I looked like I was picking my nose. I didn't realise how bad it looked until I saw myself in the mirror automatically adjusting them in the toilets. I can still see the remnants of the holes if I look hard enough, but otherwise you'd never know I had my nose pierced unless you asked me.

TL;DR Go for it, just be aware that you might not get on with them after a few years.

From Edward Lear's "The Owl and the Pussycat"
"And there in a wood
A Piggy-wig stood
With a ring at the end of his nose, his nose,
With a ring at the end of his nose."

I'm nearly 35 and have a small silver hoop in my nose and love it! My mum is in her 60s and has a small diamond stud in hers. Life is too short, go for it!! 😁

Lovelydovey · 29/01/2024 12:36

Do it. I'm 41 and have had my nose pierced for more than 20 years and I still love it. I'm a senior woman in finance and nobody has ever commented negatively on it.

I’m 51 and a senior academic, and have had a nose stud since my 20s. I doubt anyone’s ever given it a second glance. My next door neighbour is a surgeon in her 60s and wears a nose stud.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 29/01/2024 15:25

I'm 42 and only just recently have I started to want it done. Not sure where the idea came from! I'm not concerned about my mother more my work although I think it would be fine as one has their septum pierced and another the bit under their lip

LittleMissCantBeArsed · 29/01/2024 15:30

Had mine done 2 years ago aged 46! I love it. Took 6 months to heel properly though and I nearly took it out a few times! It's fine now.

13Bastards · 29/01/2024 16:19

Do it! I had mine done at 38, wish I had it done sooner as I love it and it really suits me if I can say that about myself!

StripyHorse · 29/01/2024 16:24

If anyone is setting a bad parenting example it's your mum for not respecting what you want to do with your own body.

bradpittsbathwater · 30/01/2024 09:33

I'm nearly 40, I had mine done at 25 and have had a small flat stud in ever since. It's hardly noticeable. I usually have the grey surgical steel one, at the moment a tiny green stone. I love mine and feel naked without it!

NatMoz · 30/01/2024 11:20

Any pictures of your noses? Just curious to see the dainty studs for my own research purposes🤣

pontipinemum · 30/01/2024 11:25

Did you get it? I had it when I was 16 and it lasted about 2 months. I sneeze a lot and kept grabbing my nose to stop the sneeze. Which pushed in the stud and suddenly blood everywhere 😂

I do think the ring looks a bit silly, but clearly lots of people do like them

BourbonsAreOverated · 22/10/2024 08:57

Im resurrecting this thread for some advice if that’s ok
thinking of getting mine done.
is it annoying when you have a cold?

dreamcatchmee · 22/10/2024 09:20

I'd say it would be annoying while it was healing if you had a cold as it may be a bit sore.
Otherwise, it doesn't bother me. I have a hoop, for context.

Yes. It’s why I let my nose piercing close up. I didn’t make it through the first winter!

BourbonsAreOverated · 22/10/2024 09:30

So getting up one day, on say, a chilly October day (so start of cold season) and going “fuck it, I’m getting it done” might not be the smartest thing.

Maybe I just need to keep bathing in hand sanitiser to keep them away.

SunnyValemin · 22/10/2024 09:34

I had mine done three weeks ago and promptly caught covid. It was fine really, just have to keep on top of cleaning it. It's healing nicely now

StasisMom · 22/10/2024 10:11

I have a tiny stud, it's fine with colds and hayfever.

I've had mine pierced since I was about 20, just a stud, and it doesn't get in the way at all. I'm a sneezy person and get cold frequently so always blowing my nose, but it was never a problem for me! My sister has her septum done and she had no problems!

I'd say go for it. You can always take it back out, it'll heal quickly!

ButtSurgery · 22/10/2024 10:17

Doesn't cause an issue with colds or hayfever. Maybe if the stud is too long inside?

I always have L shaped studs or small half rings, so nothing touches the thin skinned part of the nose, only the cartilage.

I can't wear bones or similar as the backs are just far far too long and they do hurt. I rebend most studs to make it a proper 90° bend or shallower though.
