I am 33 and really want my nose pierced, I mentioned it to my mum and she said do not do that its awful and makes me look a bad influence to the children?

Amazing! Thank you all!! I permanently have a runny nose in the winter so was a bit worried it might cause an issue, sounds like general consensus is it may but probably won’t.
That’s all I want, just a tiny stud really. I was looking at the different shapes of them. I’m assuming once its healed it’s just trial and error of finding what’s comfortable.
@SunnyValemin as someone who had it done recently, I’m a wuss. Did it hurt?

Didimum · 22/10/2024 11:05

Go for it. I'd love a nose piercing, but my husband hates piercings and I don't think my work would like it too much either.

dahliadiva · 22/10/2024 11:10

Me and my daughter had our noses pierced together last year - she was 16 and I was 36! We now have matching nose rings. Go for it!

BlibBlabBlob · 22/10/2024 11:15

Got mine done in my mid-20s. Mother hated it, oddly that response rather pleased me. :-) I'm nearly 47 now and still love my nose piercing, despite having given up on wearing earrings in my lobes many years ago. Just the nose for me now, it's kind of become part of my identity and I still love it.

Agree with a PP that it's your mother setting a bad example for being so judgmental! I bet she'd be fine with somebody having their newborn baby girl's ears pierced but thinks a middle-aged woman can't have a nose piercing. Your body, your choice.

I’ve not even mentioned wanting it done to dh. Blush

I can get an appointment for today and I’m off work today. That’s definitely a sign isn’t it

BourbonsAreOverated · 22/10/2024 11:27

I reduced my mum to tears when I had my belly button pierced at 18. I could understand if these things are irreversible

ScupperedbytheSea · 22/10/2024 12:01

Just had mine done, mid 40s. Love it. I was inspired by my younger niece, would had hers done and said she thought it would suit me.

It's hardly the edgiest thing to do nowadays. When I told my dad, he said I'd gone downhill, and he absolutely forbade me to get any tattoos or a motorbike (but he was joking, sort of)

Oh, that's up to you whether you'd think he'd care or not.

I only told mine because he feels about facial piercings the way a lot of people feel about facial tattoos – completely off-putting. Of course he says I can do what I like, and if it were my bellybutton or something I wouldn't care, but I don't want him looking at my face every day and not liking it!

Yes, it's a sign! And if you don't like it just take it out – no problem. I had my lip pierced years ago and didn't like it after a while and there's no scar at all.

TeenLifeMum · 22/10/2024 12:26

I really wanted one but I’m too touchy with my face and would definitely knock it out. I had my second hole in my ear at 40 when I decided my dad’s opinion that it’s chavy no longer mattered to me in my senior role.

I want to get my nose pierced - I think it looks pretty. My friend said 'That's a lesbian thing to do'. Where to even begin with that?? 🙈

haha...my mum would think the same. Same as wearing an anklet means you're a sex worker!

But both parents looked horrified when I mentioned I wanted a nose piercing and said 'oh no! don't do that!' I've still got to get mine done. 🙄the delay is mainly because I'm scared it'll hurt too much and I'll faint!! I've wanted one since i was 40; I'm coming up 55. My DD keeps saying 'come on mum, get it done!'

SunnyValemin · 22/10/2024 12:49

@BourbonsAreOverated it didn't hurt loads when it was done, like having a blood test but a bit sharper maybe. It did make my eyes water! It was a bit sore the few days after, not least because I kept forgetting about it and knocking it with my glasses or when I washed my face. I would go for it - worst that happens is you hate it and take it out immediately, it'll heal over 😊

SunnyValemin · 22/10/2024 12:50

@BourbonsAreOverated just to add, I didn't tell anyone I was getting mine done the first time (last year, it healed over when I had to take it out for surgery). My fiancé didn't notice for an hour 😂

blackheartsgirl · 22/10/2024 13:00

I had mine done at 45, then six months later had the other side done, that fell out though sadly but now have a small dainty hoop on one side. I absolutely love it.

im at that age now where I don’t care what people think

To be fair they’re not always reversible

I got a piercing under my lip when I was 16. I haven’t had a stud in there for 15 years and there’s still a hole. The same can happen with nose piercings, you can end up with what looks like a permanent blackhead or a lump if you decide to stop wearing it. Scarring is unpredictable.

Purplecatshopaholic · 22/10/2024 13:07

Got mine done a few years ago to celebrate my divorce. Late 40s, senior job, couldn’t GAF. Wear a small silver stud and love it. Do it!

Try and get them to use a flatback labret if possible, I find these the comfiest as it's a very small flat disc on the inside so nothing pokes when blowing your nose

McGregor33 · 22/10/2024 13:11

I’ve had loads of piercings nose, septum, nipples 2x on each, scaffold etc. I started them at 13 and even now at 30 I still covered in them with tattoos as well!

My older girls are 13 and almost 11, one has her ear pierced and wants no other ones and the other has none and doesn’t want any.

Id say go for it ☺️

quoque · 22/10/2024 13:18

I'm in my 40's and had mine pierced in my teens and a couple of years ago pushed a ring through it and really like it. Being ancient now with general vibe that is more grown up than it was at 14, I have a solid gold ring rather than a weird little battered silver plate celtic thing in it like I did back then!

I also think a septum piercing (again, quality and understated gold ring) is very very cool, but it might be a step too far for me. V tempted though.

BananaSplitSandwich · 22/10/2024 13:32

I think it looks horrible but you do whatever you want 🤷‍♀️

DoraSpenlow · 22/10/2024 13:38

If you go ahead probably best to get your nose swabbed for MRSA first. Friend had awful repercussions when she had hers done. Lost a bit of her nose.

Personally I think they look like a bogey on the side of your nose but each to their own.

Ivymedication · 22/10/2024 13:50

I got mine done 1st at 16, told mum I was doing it, she hated the idea and was furious when I came back with 2 on one side, 1 on the other.
It was a pain at school having to cover them in concealer- but secretly I loved it.

I lost a hole when I lost a stud at uni drunk and couldn't get it back in.

When I started a proper professional job at 21 I had to wear skin coloured studs which looked like I had horrible spots on both sides of my nose, but they were very inappropriate to have.

Now at 43 I can wear hoops, studs anything I want and people don't notice them. I think the change definitely happened after covid but was becoming much less of a thing for the past 10 years, since tattoos in the workplace became ok, nose piercing has been nothing to worry about.

Go for it

BourbonsAreOverated · 22/10/2024 15:32

I’m back GrinGrin
got it done. Fuck me it was wincy! And yes my eyes were streaming quicker than Thames waters over flow pipes.
I love it though, looks like it’s always been there. Which makes me regret not getting it sooner.
It’s got a flat back and isn’t annoying me, although I have given myself a headache from clenching my jaw so hard when she did it.

now I wait for dh. I’ve never even mentioned them, so I actually don’t know what his views on facial piercings are.
I do wonder how long it will take him to notice.

ive also just seen the post about MRSA - eeeek! Will have to keep my fingers crossed on that one as I didn’t see it until after.

thank you all for persuading me… and even the bogey ones I appreciate the view point

Edited because my phone changed it to boogie not bogey, which is probably preferable

AcridAndStanLee · 22/10/2024 18:29

Well done!!!! Hope your DH loves it.

BourbonsAreOverated · 22/10/2024 19:22

Took him 45 minutes.
he thought id stuck something on for another 10/15
he does like it

which is lucky really Grin
