To open my window on the bus

notknowledgeable · 28/01/2024 12:17

It seems to be a mission for some people to fight to have all the windows on the bus closed, for all of every journey? Why? Before covid this wasn't an issue - now it seems people have a point to make.

I get there can be a chilly draught, but just put your coat on, or put your hood up?

I am immunocompromised, and wear a mask and open the window on my way to and from work. Every single time I get ill, ( currently a couple of times a month) my classes are left with non specialist agency staff. I take all the precautions I reasonably can to keep from catching anything, but this constant battle on the bus every working day is really wearing my down.

I'm with you, I always sit at the back and open a window, the bus gets steamed up, people cough, sneeze and snotter. I still wear a mask and gloves on public transport and dont care what anyone thinks,

MadamVastra · 28/01/2024 12:23

I guess one person isn't better than the other - some don't like a chill it might flare up their lumbago lol

Why do you get to choose?

Maxus · 28/01/2024 12:24

It's not your window.

The open windows was one of the best changes to bus travel in the months after lockdown. I don't understand why people prefer to breathe in the stuffy air on a packed bus with windows closed now. I get that it's winter but everyone is wearing a coat anyway.

Toddlerteaplease · 28/01/2024 12:26

They need to be closed or the air in or heating doesn't work.

saltnvini · 28/01/2024 12:26

Because people are disgusting and want to sit all close together breathing in people's germs

Toddlerteaplease · 28/01/2024 12:26

air con.

TheSlantedOwl · 28/01/2024 12:26

Unless it’s raining hard or freezing then it’s fine to open the windows.

Same. That and there's always someone who smells bad

ladyofshertonabbas · 28/01/2024 12:28

Agree, it’s so gross inhaling other people’s bad breath and BO, open the windows!

lap90 · 28/01/2024 12:30

Some busses are really stuffy.
I am all for some open windows on the bus.

CHEESEY13 · 28/01/2024 13:05

Some people have an almost paranoid aversion to fresh air. They seem quite content to occupy a non-ventilated space, coughing or sneezing without covering their mouth/nose, absolutely oblivious to a stuffy, rank atmosphere. Vile.

2024HappyNewYear · 28/01/2024 13:07

I'd be annoyed with you. I hate sitting in a cold draft. You'd be making me really uncomfortable.

uhOhOP · 28/01/2024 13:14

I think you are not being unreasonable. I always open all of the windows I can get to when I get on a bus, whatever the weather. I like fresh air.

Riapia · 28/01/2024 13:15

It’s due to the type of person that travels on public transport?
😉😁😁😁

polkadotpeppermint · 28/01/2024 13:17

A point to make? Maybe they’re cold?!

Even with the windows open, being on a bus is surely still risky for you. Kindly, maybe it’s time to explore alternative transport options.

olympicsrock · 28/01/2024 13:19

Yes windows open . Coats hats and gloves on

HeddaGarbled · 28/01/2024 13:19

I don’t think one or two windows open on a bus is going to stop you picking up viruses.

MrsSkylerWhite · 28/01/2024 13:20

As it’s almost always the person behind you whose face it blows in, it’s polite to ask them if it bothers them.

PPTorPDF · 28/01/2024 13:21

Window open voter here. The air on a bus is absolutely foul, why would anyone want to trap it in and sit in it. Makes me feel ill. Bad breath, sweat, damp smelling clothes etc.

Coffeeandcatsforlife · 28/01/2024 13:24

I’ve noticed on a few newer buses in the north that it says please do try to keep the windows shut. Doesn’t explain why though. I’m presuming the new ones have air con?

Alwaysthesunandthemoon · 28/01/2024 13:25

Windows on buses definitely should be open. I get travel sick and having all the windows shut will guarantee I will be ill. Those who want windows shut would not want someone vomiting on the bus.

Minglemangle007 · 28/01/2024 13:26

But if you open "your " window then the person behind gets to sit in a cold draught, it's the window in front you need to open so you can enjoy the draught.

Januarydayssss · 28/01/2024 13:29

Hahahahmy mum hates opened window as says she gets ill from it so she actually stands up, and shuts every window in the bus and if anyone has any issiues, she tells them off.
