Delivery driver entered garden

AIBU

We live in a detached house in very quiet neighbourhood. While we were out today, a delivery driver tried to deliver a parcel (not expensive) and decided to take it upon himself to enter our back garden and leave by the back door. I am furious. The parcel was not expensive, they’ve always left it at our front door or behind the bins which are at the front of the house by the gate. He would have had to open the gate. We don’t have CCTV so don’t know if he snooped or not.

I feel it’s trespassing and we should make a formal complaint. What if we had a dog that had bit him or had got out…? AIBU??

I think you are over reacting a bit.

Sunshineandcauliflowercheese · 27/01/2024 12:40

YABU.

Just settling in.

Barrenfieldoffucks · 27/01/2024 12:40

Bonkers

ToastyToes101 · 27/01/2024 12:40

Christ. I think he was trying to be helpful by putting it out of sight where there was less have of it getting nicked (he was not to know the value of the contents) and you want o make a formal complaint?

Buy a lock for your gate if you're worried about people entering.

mynameiscalypso · 27/01/2024 12:41

We've had parcels stolen from outside our front door before (and we live in a nice neighbourhood). Round the back seems much safer to me. I doubt he cares about your garden at all

SisterMichaelsHabit · 27/01/2024 12:41

Is this the first parcel you've ever had delivered? This is very common. They usually text early in the morning before delivering, so you can put a note on your front door like the rest of us do telling them what to do if you're out. If you want it left on your doorstep as an advert to thieves and burglars that's your lookout.

YABVVVVU. It's not like he left it in your bin, on your roof, a random house somewhere on a different road, or any of the other silly places some people leave parcels.

Windymcwindyson · 27/01/2024 12:41

Obviously death by firing squad is the only just punishment here...

tenbob · 27/01/2024 12:41

Poor delivery drivers can’t win

if they leave it by the front door and it gets stolen, they get called lazy for not taking it to the back door

If they take it to the back door, it’s ‘trespassing’ wtf

Maybe ask yourself why someone doing something to make your life easier is making you ‘furious’

Unless you’ve got a cannabis farm in full view from the back door, this is the most extraordinary over reaction

C00k · 27/01/2024 12:41

Your imaginary dog would have either been in the house or in a locked garden if it’s so important that the gate is not opened.
You want to complain that a delivery man delivered your parcel? 🥴

ExtraOnions · 27/01/2024 12:41

You don’t have a dog

He was delivering a parcel

He opened an unlocked gate

He put it in a safe place

Chill

Lejuge28 · 27/01/2024 12:41

Surely it's safer to leave in back garden.

curlupandvanishforever · 27/01/2024 12:41

Is this real?!

PinkTeaForMe · 27/01/2024 12:42

Yes yabu. The poor guy was just trying to do his job and ensure that the parcel was safe. If it was taken he could be held responsible. He wouldn't know if it was expensive or not. Perhaps you should put a sign up on your door with clear instructions for parcels when you're not in. Delivery drivers work very hard and I find your attitude towards this is awful.

LetMeGoogleThat · 27/01/2024 12:42

OMG... he opened the gate?? Surely that's akin to murder! ..... FFS, YABVVU

PuttingDownRoots · 27/01/2024 12:42

Maybe get s lockbox?

CaptainMyCaptain · 27/01/2024 12:44

He thought he was doing a good thing. YABVU

couiza · 27/01/2024 12:44

Lock the gate. Then get a pillow, put on inside of gate. Leave note to throw parcel over locked gate. Lands on pillow. Safe as houses. Sorted.

Heronwatcher · 27/01/2024 12:44

Good god, I can’t believe you’re posting on here, why haven’t you called the police already!

Talk about irresponsible that utter bastard trying to do his job and deliver your parcel, he deserves to be summarily dismissed and face appropriate criminal charges.

SisterMichaelsHabit · 27/01/2024 12:44

Also welcome to MN.

User0311 · 27/01/2024 12:44

YABU this is completely normal

TheShellBeach · 27/01/2024 12:46

I expect this has been posted by sometime on the MN Tattle thread.

Pickingmyselfup · 27/01/2024 12:46

Yes yabu, lock the gate if you don't want anyone going in the garden.

Sure they might judge a little if your garden is a shit tip but that's down to you to either clean it, stop entry or just stop caring.

The driver was trying to be helpful, a parcel is less likely to get stolen if nobody can see it and its less visible in the back garden than out the front.

Workwhat · 27/01/2024 12:46

This has to be a joke.

MandyMotherOfBrian · 27/01/2024 12:46

Snooped? SNOOPED? That’s the least of your worries, what if he’d come back to murder you all in your beds? Murder! MURDER, I TELL YE!!!!
