Delivery driver entered garden

AIBU

We live in a detached house in very quiet neighbourhood. While we were out today, a delivery driver tried to deliver a parcel (not expensive) and decided to take it upon himself to enter our back garden and leave by the back door. I am furious. The parcel was not expensive, they’ve always left it at our front door or behind the bins which are at the front of the house by the gate. He would have had to open the gate. We don’t have CCTV so don’t know if he snooped or not.

I feel it’s trespassing and we should make a formal complaint. What if we had a dog that had bit him or had got out…? AIBU??

He probably went round the back for a pi** 🤣

VickyEadieofThigh · 27/01/2024 17:22

Yes, YABU.

Also, get a grip.

Zingy123 · 27/01/2024 17:23

@UnctuousUnicorns no purple bins here so not me. We can't win to be honest. If we leave it safe we get moaned at. If we take it back to the depot we get moaned at for not leaving it.

HollaHolla · 27/01/2024 17:27

In the kindest possible way, OP - are you mental? If it’s a different driver, he/she might not know your ‘usual arrangement’. I’m sure others will say the same.
Do you want them just to not deliver, or chuck it from the road?

Daffodildilys · 27/01/2024 17:29

Poor delivery drivers. Can’t win can they?
You sound very hard work.

ScentlessAprentice · 27/01/2024 17:30

So you're going to formally complain about your imaginary dog hypothetically escaping? And fuck, how arrogant are you to assume that you're just so very fascinating that a delivery driver is only waiting to snoop around your garden? Why would you imagine that they have any interest in you whatsoever?

SomeCatFromJapan · 27/01/2024 17:31

What?! Our delivery drivers sometimes leave parcels in the recycling bin or at the back door of the back garden. I've never thought twice about it. What a bizarre response.

JamJar59 · 27/01/2024 17:31

They did their job. You should have been in when it was delivered if you didn’t want them to deliver while you’re out.

@KateyJ989 not bothering to reply?

Couldyounot · 27/01/2024 18:14

Come on now

cansu · 27/01/2024 18:22

Are you off your rocker? He delivered a parcel by leaving it by your back door presumably because he thought it might be safer. He opened an unlocked garden gate and your are furious?? Seriously, you need a hobby.

spanishviola · 27/01/2024 18:26

Took it upon himself = used some initiative
Snooped = looked for a safe place to leave a parcel

It's fun to make believe isn't it !

KarenNotAKaren · 27/01/2024 18:29

YABU and over reacting.

I wish my delivery drivers would do this rather than drive off to deliver at an undetermined date! Your back garden isn’t some secret sacred gardens of the gods, it’s just a place that many drivers kindly leave packages so that you get them on the day you expect them.

959dk48 · 27/01/2024 18:29

Maybe they should do what they're supposed to do and not leave parcels when there's no one at home unless they've been given permission!

Universalsnail · 27/01/2024 18:31

You are angry a delivery driver left your parcel in your secure garden opposed to on the front? I think you are insane sorry. I wish all my delivery drivers would do this instead of leaving it on the front in full view.

Gallowayan · 27/01/2024 18:33

Your bat shit crazy

ScrawlyEmbroidery · 27/01/2024 18:34

Did he pick the garden lock or scale the fence or something?

JudgeJ · 27/01/2024 19:31

UnctuousUnicorns · 27/01/2024 12:52

Our regular postie opens our front door (yes, we leave it unlocked 😱)and leaves large parcels in our hallway, if I'm in the bath or something, and can't answer the door. Rather that than chasing up a redelivery!

Edited

I always tell the posties to open the door and chuck the mail into the hallway as the letterbox isn't very finger-friendly.
