Delivery driver entered garden

AIBU

We live in a detached house in very quiet neighbourhood. While we were out today, a delivery driver tried to deliver a parcel (not expensive) and decided to take it upon himself to enter our back garden and leave by the back door. I am furious. The parcel was not expensive, they’ve always left it at our front door or behind the bins which are at the front of the house by the gate. He would have had to open the gate. We don’t have CCTV so don’t know if he snooped or not.

I feel it’s trespassing and we should make a formal complaint. What if we had a dog that had bit him or had got out…? AIBU??

A formal complaint that your parcel was delivered safely? For goodness sake, get a grip.

Renamed · 27/01/2024 12:48

I expect he is chuckling to himself right now about your awful curtains and hideous taste in begonias.

friskybivalves · 27/01/2024 12:49

Execution by nitrogen. Clear justification.

monicagellerbing · 27/01/2024 12:49

Unclench. Ffs. It's your garden not your bedroom

judgedreadful · 27/01/2024 12:50

Ffs what a complete overreaction. Be at home then if expecting a delivery!!

Westernesse · 27/01/2024 12:50

You are mental.

CormorantStrikesBack · 27/01/2024 12:50

What a nice guy, going above and beyond to ensure your parcel isn’t stolen. Feel free to complain and you’ll probably be having to go to pick stuff up from the depot for ever as they may just stop leaving stuff at the front or back.

platinumplus · 27/01/2024 12:50

Post and delivery people do this all the time and always have done in my experience.
Put a lock on your gate if you don't want people going in. Do you not have a window cleaner?
Think you're quite considerably overreacting.

mum11970 · 27/01/2024 12:50

This has got to be a wind up because nobody could be so pathetic.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 27/01/2024 12:51

I assume he had to enter your garden to get to your front door, @KateyJ989 - so I don’t think this is the crime of the century.

In fact, I think he went the extra mile, to make sure your parcel was safe - I’m sure you would have kicked off if it had been stolen from your front door mat.

Delivery drivers are really poorly paid, and have to make a lot of deliveries, so he added extra time into his job to make sure your package was safe. What a jerk.

Floralnomad · 27/01/2024 12:51

If you don’t want people in your back garden put a bolt on the gate - same goes for if you have a dog out in the garden . YAB ridiculous

Candymay · 27/01/2024 12:51

He’s going to come back to you in the middle of the night. He was using the delivery as a chance to scope the place. He’s checked there are no dogs. And no men live there (by state of garden and the floral curtains). He will be back tonight mark my words

CormorantStrikesBack · 27/01/2024 12:51

And what sort of a snob are you that you think delivery drivers may be snooping (insinuating they’re thieves).

owlsinthedaylight · 27/01/2024 12:51

I can only assume this is a reverse by a delivery driver who has had a (VVVVVV unreasonable) complaint 😂

LyndaLaHughes · 27/01/2024 12:52

If be delighted if a delivery driver did this. Using a bit of common sense to keep your parcels safer. So yes, you are massively being unreasonable and ungrateful.

ApolloandDaphne · 27/01/2024 12:52

Our delivery drivers always come through our gate and place parcels by the back door. No one can see our house front or back so it makes no difference but that seems to be the standard place for parcel delivery. I've never felt violated or snooped on. TBH most delivery drivers have no time for wandering around people's gardens. They need to drop and go.

Mrsjayy · 27/01/2024 12:52

oh I dunno maybe be in for your parcels I mean how dare he want your package be safe!

SharedAccountWithMySister · 27/01/2024 12:52

I’m waiting for the daily fail to pick up on this post. Get your sad compo face ready, this is front page stuff.

Flamango · 27/01/2024 12:52

Get a lock on your gate! All a burglar has to do is walk into your back garden and then he can spend all day jimmying your locks!

Soubriquet · 27/01/2024 12:52

Yabu.

I’ve had delivery drivers leave parcels at my back door by entering the garden. And I have dogs.

Bolt the gate shut if you don’t want them entering

UnctuousUnicorns · 27/01/2024 12:52

LetMeGoogleThat · 27/01/2024 12:42

OMG... he opened the gate?? Surely that's akin to murder! ..... FFS, YABVVU

Our regular postie opens our front door (yes, we leave it unlocked 😱)and leaves large parcels in our hallway, if I'm in the bath or something, and can't answer the door. Rather that than chasing up a redelivery!

LyndaLaHughes · 27/01/2024 12:53

You also sound like a massive snob. Why would a delivery driver want to snoop around your garden? Honestly.

HollyKnight · 27/01/2024 12:53

Soooo tell us what you're hiding in your garden that you don't want anyone else to see...?

pinkyredrose · 27/01/2024 12:53

Do you have a lot of time on your hands?

storminabuttercup · 27/01/2024 12:53

This has to be a wind up.

If not get your head from up your arse. Poor bloke was only doing his job
