Is this too white for a wedding?

Additional info

It's for a nine year old

Dress code is smart casual and it's in Indonesia, if that makes a difference

This is not the 'main' wedding, this is a western wedding and is seen as secondary to the bride who is Indonesian

No bridesmaids or flower girls

What do you think?

Is this too white for a wedding?

I hate to be the first one but it’s horrid, regardless of the colour. You must be able to find something nicer than that.

Alwaysgoingforit · 15/01/2024 17:05

Sorry, but that is an odd looking dress.

Pollyannamex · 15/01/2024 17:05

I think that’s fine, it’s cute!

justalittlesnoel · 15/01/2024 17:06

It would be nice if you used a RIT dye and made it purple or navy perhaps?

Notimeforaname · 15/01/2024 17:07

I also dont like it. It looks old and a bit ratty

Dacadactyl · 15/01/2024 17:07

I think the photo is probably not doing the dress justice.

I think it's fine for a child to wear white to a wedding personally. And even if it's not the done thing, that doesn't look "too white"

SnapdragonToadflax · 15/01/2024 17:07

I would say that's more suitable for a four year old flower girl than a nine year old.

Have a look on Vinted, Monsoon have some nice ones that are a bit more grown up so you might find something from previous seasons.

43ontherocksporfavor · 15/01/2024 17:08

That etiquette doesn’t apply to children as they could not be mistaken for or be in competition with or be accused of upstaging the bride.

Alwaysgoingforit · 15/01/2024 17:08

No, I used to do a lot of charity shop purchases for my lot when they were young and there was ususally something nice quality. This looks like net curtain tacked onto something lacy. Colour is dull and looks 'grubby'.

Name854 · 15/01/2024 17:08

If it's a charity shop buy then get it and dye it

Skybluecoat · 15/01/2024 17:09

It looks like a 4 year olds bridesmaids dress that’s been left screwed up at the bottom of a wardrobe for ten years.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 15/01/2024 17:09

It makes it look like you're miffed that your child is not a flower girl/bridesmaid, even if there aren't any.

And it's weird colour.

It might be better if you dyed it, but I wouldn't bother.

Notimeforaname · 15/01/2024 17:09

Oh its for a 9 year old? I missed that bit. Definitely no.

slithytoveisascientist · 15/01/2024 17:09

Dress is lovely on her and in person - the pic doesn't do it justice

Thank you for unsolicited opinions on that though, I suppose this IS AIBU 😂

Looks too young for a 9 year old irrespective of colour

Cinai · 15/01/2024 17:10

I think a child can wear an off-white dress such as this.

bobomomo · 15/01/2024 17:10

If it's in Indonesia, consider if it's acceptable length wise, seems pretty short. It's quite a conservative country.

Wictc · 15/01/2024 17:10

It looks like a 4yr old flower girl outfit. I don’t think an 8yr old would be happy wearing it and it looks a bit tatty. There are hundreds of dresses out there, you can definitely find something better than that.

43ontherocksporfavor · 15/01/2024 17:12

OP asked whether the colour was too white not what y’all think of it.

It looks very old and worn in photo

FruitBowlCrazy · 15/01/2024 17:12

It entirely depends on what the bridesmaids are wearing. You really don't want anyone to think that you are miffed that your dd isn't a bridesmaid. It is a short dress though, so maybe that wouldn't apply.

LightSwerve · 15/01/2024 17:13

I think it is too white for a wedding, even for a child.

If you say the size and style look good, I'd dye it.

Notimeforaname · 15/01/2024 17:13

Definitely not too white..

Comedycook · 15/01/2024 17:13

I like the dress and think it's fine for a child to wear that to a wedding. Looks a little bit young maybe but if your dd is happy then that's the main thing

MidnightPatrol · 15/01/2024 17:14

Looks like a bridesmaids dress I’m afraid.

I also agree it’s a bit ‘little girl’ for a nine year old (unless she loves it of course).

Zara have some lovely girls party dresses in their sale which are a bit funkier and £10-20.
