Is this too white for a wedding?

Additional info

It's for a nine year old

Dress code is smart casual and it's in Indonesia, if that makes a difference

This is not the 'main' wedding, this is a western wedding and is seen as secondary to the bride who is Indonesian

No bridesmaids or flower girls

What do you think?

If you EVER have to ask this, then the answer is ALWAYS yes.

80sMum · 15/01/2024 17:14

It looks fine to me! I think my nine-year-old granddaughter would like it. And the "no white" etiquette doesn't really apply to children. It looks good on the child and the child likes it? I say, buy it!

I agree with this!

Noted re it looks too young

She is quite a young 9 year old and fell in love with it in shop. This is a pic of her wearing it.

and no I'm not fussed there isn't a bridesmaid this isn't the real wedding to all intents and purposes. The real one we are all wearing traditional ceremonial garb

It looks lovely on! I'd personally dye it. Let her choose the colour.

80sMum · 15/01/2024 17:16

It looks lovely!

Comedycook · 15/01/2024 17:17

Ah bless her...it looks very nice

CaineRaine · 15/01/2024 17:17

It does look a little like a bridesmaids dress, looks way better on your DD than it does on the hanger!

Deafening · 15/01/2024 17:17

It looks lovely on her.

Icantbedoingwithit · 15/01/2024 17:18

I think it’s gorgeous, really quirky. Bet it looks fab on her. Perfect for a wedding.

If it's in Indonesia, consider if it's acceptable length wise, seems pretty short. It's quite a conservative country.

Bali, Seminyak, western wedding, 10 guests (all grooms family) plus groom and bride.

The length should be ok.

Bride is taking herself clubbing with friends after the wedding 😂 it's not seen as real

It entirely depends on what the bridesmaids are wearing. You really don't want anyone to think that you are miffed that your dd isn't a bridesmaid. It is a short dress though, so maybe that wouldn't apply.

No bridesmaids and I'm defo not miffed. Perhaps just a nice summer dress she can wear again then.

It looks a lot better in the second photo. I'd put a cardigan over it in a nice accent colour, maybe to match shoes/hair accessories, that would remove any "too white" concerns, especially as she's only 9.

MillicentRogers · 15/01/2024 17:20

It looks like a dress that's in the dressing up box at children's nursery and has been worn by a thousand other little girls.

I can't imagine a 9 year old wanting to wear it.

HardcoreLadyType · 15/01/2024 17:21

It’s fine. It’s for a child, so clearly not trying to upstage the bride.

I wonder if she might be quite hot in it, though? Just something to consider.

It doesn't look too young.

Personally I think a lot of kids get dressed too old.

MillicentRogers · 15/01/2024 17:21

Oh! It looks much MUCH nicer in the photo of her wearing it!

EdinGirl · 15/01/2024 17:22

Yes. Looks too much like a flower girl dress (also possibly a bit costume??)

Rhythmisadancer · 15/01/2024 17:24

aw it looks v sweet on her - much better than the original picture. She will look lovely

I did wonder this but apparently it is in air conditioned villa

For the Indonesian ceremony I have to wear a corset and a lace top - and I'm overweight. I am going to be such a sweaty Betty

Your dd looks great in the dress- the first pic had me imagining something very different.

Everybody knows she’s not the bride so she won’t look like she’s trying to upstage the bride.

ButterflyOil · 15/01/2024 17:30

It looks lovely on her but it is a bit bridesmaid-y. Can you text a pic to the bride and groom and ask if they are ok with it?

slithytoveisascientist · 15/01/2024 17:30

Thank you everyone for feedback

Corset?! 😫

Your dd looks lovely in that dress, I think it is spot-on perfect for the occasion you have described.

Enjoy - it all sounds like a wonderful experience!
