Is this too white for a wedding?

slithytoveisascientist · 15/01/2024 17:01

Additional info

It's for a nine year old

Dress code is smart casual and it's in Indonesia, if that makes a difference

This is not the 'main' wedding, this is a western wedding and is seen as secondary to the bride who is Indonesian

No bridesmaids or flower girls

What do you think?

Is this too white for a wedding?

I came on to say it looks very much like a few bridesmaids dresses I’ve seen, but a few people have beat me to it. Do you know what colour dresses the actual bridesmaids have so it doesn’t look like you’re trying to match them?

User13579367337 · 15/01/2024 17:33

Sorry only just read the second page with the no bridesmaids updates

bluechicky · 15/01/2024 17:33

No it screams that you want your kid to be the bridesmaid/flower girl

WinterSnowFox · 15/01/2024 17:35

I thought it was nice before I saw a pic of it on. Don’t understand these weird comments about it being ugly and tatty?! And how rude 😳

Chocladore · 15/01/2024 17:37

It looks lovely on your DD (so much better on) and with the wedding you’ve described I really do this will be absolutely fine.

ScierraDoll · 15/01/2024 17:37

Women can be right beaches when they want. If your daughter likes it and you like it then no problem.

QueenBean22 · 15/01/2024 17:39

The dress looks lovely on her.

ignore the people who are answering some made up question in their little heads, must have had a bad Monday

Echobelly · 15/01/2024 17:40

It doesn't matter that much but people might see it as 'flower-girl-y' given the colour and it might slightly annoy the bride if people think she's got a flower girl when she hasn't.

MillicentRogers · 15/01/2024 17:20

It looks like a dress that's in the dressing up box at children's nursery and has been worn by a thousand other little girls.

I can't imagine a 9 year old wanting to wear it.

The OP’s 9-year-old has said that she DOES want to wear it, though.

@slithytoveisascientist It looks lovely on her in the photo of her wearing it and it will be fine for a child at a wedding. It’s not too white.

LiquidGold315 · 15/01/2024 17:48

It looks a little too flower girl so on that basis i would say it's not appropriate

Greekrunner · 15/01/2024 17:49

I don't think it's too white, but I do think it's too bridesmaids if she isn't bridesmaid

Anjea · 15/01/2024 17:53

She looks lovely in it.

ColourByNumbers88 · 15/01/2024 17:55

She looks lovely. And that was a bargain find. Have a great time!

LauderSyme · 15/01/2024 17:31

Corset?! 😫

Your dd looks lovely in that dress, I think it is spot-on perfect for the occasion you have described.

Enjoy - it all sounds like a wonderful experience!

Steel boned!! I'm not sure why
Possibly something to do with being a size 16 😂

It's ugly and far too short

Not having a dig but I did say it in my op

How horrible are people on here, I cant see anywhere that the OP asked if people like the dress, but obviously on AIBU they all come out the woodwork.

LuvSmallDogs · 15/01/2024 18:05

It looks really nice and fine for a wedding, the lighting in the first picture made the white and gold bits look a bit dingy is all. Idk what people mean that it's not ok for a 9 y/o to wear, what should a 9 y/o wear then?

Chickenkeev · 15/01/2024 18:05

It looks gold to me? Definitely not white anyway.

Toooldforthis36 · 15/01/2024 18:13

slithytoveisascientist · 15/01/2024 17:09

Dress is lovely on her and in person - the pic doesn't do it justice

Thank you for unsolicited opinions on that though, I suppose this IS AIBU 😂

I think it’s nice, not too white and if you (and she) like it then it’s a great bargain 👍

Spomsored · 15/01/2024 18:16

It's fine. In fact it's better than fine. If the bride isn't regarding this as the 'real' wedding and only groom's family are attending I doubt she is going to be too bothered what a 9 year old is wearing. It looks sweet on and has a swishy skirt, what's not to like? Hope your family all have a lovely time.

EsmeSusanOgg · 15/01/2024 18:17

slithytoveisascientist · 15/01/2024 17:16

Noted re it looks too young

She is quite a young 9 year old and fell in love with it in shop. This is a pic of her wearing it.

and no I'm not fussed there isn't a bridesmaid this isn't the real wedding to all intents and purposes. The real one we are all wearing traditional ceremonial garb

It looks lovely. Totally fine for a wedding IMO. She is a child!

SummaLuvin · 15/01/2024 18:18

I know that white is typically off limits for Hindu weddings as it is a colour of mourning. A quick google tells me this might be the case for Indonesia too. That would make it inappropriate, perhaps you could inquire with any Indonesian guests to confirm?

shazshaz · 15/01/2024 18:27

I think its a lovely dress but I think white might be the colour of mourning in Indonesia so this dress may not be suitable

LauderSyme · 15/01/2024 18:27

Someone needs to tell them that 16 is the new size 12! Hope you're able to embrace your uber curviness for the day, between bouts of oxygen-deprived lightheadedness 😉
