My Primark allows all dogs

Pribark24 · 13/01/2024 16:50

All dogs are allowed in my local Primark and it's really pissed me off. The store manager said he was really annoyed about it too, but had been told that the policy had changed.

AIBU to think that dogs do not belong in shops? There's not much room to start with!

I was in a small Hotel Chocolat just before Xmas and there were 3 dogs in there too

Somethingintheloft · 13/01/2024 17:04

Munlochy shopping centre is trialing this! Why? Why do you need to take your dog into a shopping centre/non people shops if its not an assistance dog? It might be more convenient than taking it for an actual walk. But that's part of owning a dog!

Pribark24 · 13/01/2024 17:05

But just don't go to Primark if you're that worried

Young dd was shopping in there and I dont trust their changing rooms. We went in the 'women only' one as opposed to the 'all genders' one and they'd let two men in! You'd have thought after the sexual assault in one of their changing rooms, the staff would have been briefed. Anyway, that's an aside...

What if they cock a leg on the clothes?

Pribark24 · 13/01/2024 17:07

I guess there must have been incidents with the dogs, which was why the store manager wasn't happy. Or just not great for the stock.

This comment coming straight after the above one about men in the changing rooms made me laugh, thank you 🤣

The manager needs to sort out the changing rooms as a priority! Can't believe you're more concerned about the dog than the two men in the female changing room.

MadCatLady27 · 13/01/2024 17:11

I don't like dogs, so wouldn't want to encounter them in a clothes shop. I'd want to wash the clothes before wearing them and how do you know an irresponsible owner hasn't let one pee over the clothes? Also what about fleas?

Also the smell and Primark is usually busy, so having dogs getting in the way would annoy me too

Obviously assistance dogs no problem, however anything else why can't they just stay home? I don't feel the need to take my cat everywhere possible and she has a harness!!

Hey?? I'm not! I totally complained! But sadly, that doesn't shock me anymore! But the dogs did!

Dogs do not belong in Primark. Or any other clothes shop for that matter.

Boomer55 · 13/01/2024 17:13

No, I wouldn’t bother with shops that allow non-guide dogs in. Yuck.

LakeFlyPie · 13/01/2024 17:14

takealettermsjones · 13/01/2024 16:53

YANBU, who wants clothes that have had a dog's nose smeared all over them

Its nose would be the least of my concerns!

Floopani · 13/01/2024 17:14

In my local Primark there was a woman walking around with a parakeet on each shoulder. Maybe it's an animal free for all!

Mummyoflittledragon · 13/01/2024 17:14

A couple of years ago I was in pets at home and some idiots had just adopted an extra large breed male dog, as in just collected it. The idiots must have taken it straight from the car into the shop. It pe’ed inordinate amounts 3 times and the owners did nothing, two of the times they didn’t even notice.

Yuk. I love dogs. But this is horrendous on so many levels and potentially dangerous, especially to young children.

vjg13 · 13/01/2024 17:15

I was surprised to see dogs can go in John Lewis, I have 2 dogs but don't take them shopping,

Even less hygienic than dogs, but I have to admit I’d have liked to see that!

WaltzingWaters · 13/01/2024 17:16

Some dogs are really slobbery. People aren’t going to buy clothes with dog slobber all over them.
I have a dog but I certainly don’t think they belong in shops except pet shops.

Permanentlyunimpressed · 13/01/2024 17:18

Men in women's changing rooms, dogs pissing on clothes, having to serve yourself everywhere and being filmed doing so?! Shopping in the 2020's sucks. I think I'll stick to online shopping.

Razorflight · 13/01/2024 17:18

Mental. And I like dogs. What’s the point? The dog won’t enjoy it. The owner won’t be able to try anything on (not easily anyway) and lots of people really won’t like it so I can’t see who benefits here.
I like to be able to take my dog into a cafe or pub or gift shop at a push on holiday but I wouldn’t dream of taking him shopping!

Wednesdaywednesday · 13/01/2024 17:19

There were two dogs in John Lewis today. I thought they must be assistance dogs but they really didn’t look like it. I guess not!

I love dogs, but I really don’t think they belong in shops.

This was totally me today! I just felt so bloody old!!!

I work in Next and even though dogs aren't allowed we have them brought in anyway. I had to clean up a puddle of dog wee a few weeks ago that ruined several pairs of trousers hanging on a stand.

It's disgusting and unhygienic but if you try to tell people their dogs aren't allowed you get a mouthful of abuse.

I used to be a veterinary nurse, so obviously I absolutely love dogs, but they don't belong in shops.

Dweetfidilove · 13/01/2024 17:21

Good Lord🤦🏾‍♀️.
Going shopping now requires so much research 😔. Wonder if workers are allowed to take dogs into warehouses too ? Might just stick to online shopping.

And Sainsbury’s? They sell food FFS. Guess I’ll have to withdraw to my local shops, where dogs are still left outside. Bad enough having to deal with the filthiness of unhygienic people without throwing dogs in too - so many of which have feckless owners 😭.

UncleHerbie · 13/01/2024 17:22

There was a sign on a side door into John Lewis, Leeds today stating “Well behaved dogs welcome” with a blurb beneath saying they had to be on a lead
