Name changed as regular poster.

Usually win between £100 and £250 per month in Premium Bonds with nearly full holdings.

Just checked January's numbers and we've won £1000!

Anyone else?

AIBU to think they're a good investment?!

£1000 on full holdings....finally!

MyBigFatGreekSalad · 03/01/2024 11:02

DP won £300.

It's his 8 month winning in a row! £700 being the largest win and I think £50 being the smallest?

I checked the app to see the results. The million pound winners get a visit, apparently!

My friends brother one the million and they turned up at his house!

donica · 03/01/2024 11:14

Nothing for me yet, I have 5k in there since last August.

Blueberrycreampie · 03/01/2024 11:17

I won £75 and have a win most months - nothing major though. I do have a lot invested but definitely not a the maximum amount.

GasPanic · 03/01/2024 11:28

You have to have a sizeable amount in them to win on a regular basis. Recently with interest rates increasing the prize pool has increased so people are winning more, which generates more excitement.

Someone holding £100 for 20 years is unlikely to win anything over that period.

That said every now and again someone holding next to nothing wins something big. But most of the large prizes are taken by people holding tens of thousands.

It's not a good investment. The way I look at it though is that the money I would get in interest would not be life changing. But a large win would. So I am happy to sacrifice the small amount of interest for the small possibility I might win big.

A lot of people often mutter to themselves that it would be really nice if they won a million quid. But if you are not in it, you have absolutely zero chance of winning it. The lottery is similar.

AIBU to think they're a good investment?!
And they're a terrible investment!
I have them for the gambling aspect.

Haha this!! We averaged around 4.7% return last year which isn't terrible but I'll never withdraw them as I get so excited every month 😂 totally worth the lost ££ to me!

Well done op £1k is brill!

AuntieMarys · 03/01/2024 12:17

Dh got £200...that's £1500 in 5 months

ememem84 · 03/01/2024 12:51

Dparents have won £675!

BarrelOfOtters · 03/01/2024 12:52

50 - happy with that.

hopelessbusiness · 03/01/2024 12:56

£325 for me this month! Biggest ever win for me. Very happy - will ease the January pain...

Endeavormorse · 03/01/2024 13:02

£50 for me. £300 over Oct/Nov 2023 too so not too shabby.

LightSpeeds · 03/01/2024 13:08

£150 🎉

BrioNotBiro · 03/01/2024 13:12

£225, but I'm not letting it change my life!

sussexlife · 03/01/2024 13:15

£100 for me. that's £725 total over 18 months with £10k held. Not bad.

olivo · 03/01/2024 13:15

i won 1000 plus 100 this month! I couldn’t believe it. Most has been 550 but we have always had more p.a than If it was in a savings account. If that changes, we will cash in.

ExtraOnions · 03/01/2024 13:17

£350 this month, we get something similar most months.

We have £80k (2 accounts) .. the returns work out well for us.

LondonQueen · 03/01/2024 13:22

I've not won for many years, however I only have about a grand left in them as I took some out for a house deposit.

elliejjtiny · 03/01/2024 13:26

Nothing this month but I won £100 last month. I put in all my birthday/Christmas money in so I've got £5000 worth. I usually win £50 a year so I think that's really good.

Georgieporgie29 · 03/01/2024 13:34

This has just reminded me that we have some premium bonds (not many at all) how would we find out if we win, do we need the app?

Pickledonionout · 03/01/2024 13:35

DD has never won on here (she is 11 months) but today has won a significant sum. I’m shocked.

DH usually gets 100-250 a month and won £1000 today too

jackstini · 03/01/2024 13:37

£150 here, £600 last month

Not the best investment, although last year was over 3% return - but it's the 'what if'!

Congrats to all you winners!!

anniegun · 03/01/2024 13:41

The yield on Premium bonds is 4.65% compared with about 5.2% on instant access savings so they are not a "good" investment. However a a low risk form of gambling they are OK

Luckystreak · 03/01/2024 13:52

Well, about 18,500 people won £1k so it's nice to see at least five of us on here @CuriousGeorge80 @peachescariad @olivo @Pickledonionout

Congratulations to all the other winners too 👏 and very exciting to hear of some really big prizewinners!

Our winnings are just being reinvested - anyone doing something particularly exciting with theirs?

OP posts:
ComfortableAtLastTookLongEnough · 03/01/2024 15:25

No we reinvest.

We also get rewards on our bank account, so every time it hits £50 which is about three times a year we clear it out and buy more PB’s

We also have £79in Nectar points, so will clear that out and buy more PB’s.
