Henk?

Seriously? Thats a made up name if ever there was.

OP posts:
Floopani · 02/01/2024 18:32

Isn't it Dutch?

TheWizardHowl · 02/01/2024 18:33

The name's aren't just UK based.

DenmarkStreet · 02/01/2024 18:34

Very common Dutch and Belgian name. Storm Gerrit was named after a Dutch weatherman.

olympicsrock · 02/01/2024 18:34

I know a Henk - Dutchman

SilverSimca · 02/01/2024 18:34

I assume it's Dutch. I believe the UK, Ireland and the Netherlands take it in turns.

isthismylifenow · 02/01/2024 18:34

It's not made up. It's a fairly popular name where I live.

tescocreditcard · 02/01/2024 18:35

Well you learn something new every day.

Still a ridiculous name though lol

Offended

Tell us you're ignorant without telling us you're ignorant 🤣

Simonjt · 02/01/2024 18:35

Are you not aware that all words are made up.

Henk is a dutch name, it influenced the name Hank.

rainpleasestop · 02/01/2024 18:35

@HenkJnr 🤣

Ridiculous because it’s foreign? Or because you haven’t heard of it?

The storm name is not the ridiculous sounding thing here

tigger1001 · 02/01/2024 18:36

Apart from the good point made by other posters, yabu simply because the names are voted on by the public not by the met office, so even if it was named by uk met office its the public that choose the names

DisforDarkChocolate · 02/01/2024 18:36

They rotate, English Dutch and Irish I think.

SapphireOpal · 02/01/2024 18:37

Just because you've never heard of something it doesn't mean it doesn't exist. A 30 second Google would have told you it is a name and that the storm has been named by the Dutch.

Strikeback · 02/01/2024 18:37

I thought Gerrit was the same as Witcher. But DH put me right on that one!

JoeLovesGina · 02/01/2024 18:37

I think it's pronounced Hank.

catwith9lives · 02/01/2024 18:37

Why on earth do storms need names? Why are we personifying the weather?!

bookworm14 · 02/01/2024 18:37

Other cultures have names too.

HottestEverRecordedTemperature · 02/01/2024 18:37

It's Dutch. Our best man was Henk. He is Dutch.

QueenofLouisiana · 02/01/2024 18:38

I knew one years ago- he was a Dutch multimillionaire. I certainly wasn't going to question his name as he paid for my family contact flights (he owned the company, flights were part of the relocation package).

Agree.

It’s obviously a real name. Why would they make up a name for a storm?
