Seriously? Thats a made up name if ever there was.

OP posts:
WordOfTheDay · 02/01/2024 19:07

I'm afraid that you are mistaken on that. It is pronounced Henk.
Greetings from the Netherlands.

I knew one years ago- he was a Dutch multimillionaire. I certainly wasn't going to question his name as he paid for my family contact flights (he owned the company, flights were part of the relocation package).

@QueenofLouisiana
Do you have his contact details, just wanted to chat flights with him😁
I’d love to meet an aging Dutch multimillionaire.

Hobnobswantshernameback · 02/01/2024 19:09

I mean being called Henk is less offensive than being a goady pot stirrer online I suppose

JoeLovesGina · 02/01/2024 18:37

I think it's pronounced Hank.

Are you not aware that all words are made up.

Henk is a dutch name, it influenced the name Hank.

Daft question is that where Hunk comes from ?

TheYearOfSmallThings · 02/01/2024 19:13

It is a name - I've been listening to a podcast called Who Shat On The Floor At My Wedding, and one of the chief suspects is called Henk. The wedding took place on a boat in Amsterdam.

Sparklesocks · 02/01/2024 19:14

Blimmin forriners coming over ere naming our storms 😡

(/s)

Haydenn · 02/01/2024 19:14

I think every third storm some crank comes onto mumsnet complaining about the storm name. Think they’d be aware of the convention by now

Catinknickers · 02/01/2024 19:15

Why don’t you tell us your name OP so we can mock you?

Gerrit and Henk are Dutch names educate yourself FFS

Are you aware of how ridiculous and bigoted this makes you look?

quantumbutterfly · 02/01/2024 19:20

Oh dear op.
I hope your credit is better with Tesco than with this lot 😉

Personally I get upset when I hear the name Karen taken in vain.

BlueThursday · 02/01/2024 19:20

This reminds me of a thread on The Secret Lives of 4 Year Olds show when a poster declared Chaim was the craziest made up modern name they’d ever heard 🤦🏽‍♀️

QuillBill · 02/01/2024 19:21

Gormless is a word that has fallen out of fashion but fits here I think.

So because your English speaking mind doesn’t like it, it’s ‘ridiculous’ what a ridiculous comment!! 🤣

JenniferJuniper80 · 02/01/2024 19:22

Embarrassed for you op.

Charlize43 · 02/01/2024 19:23

Henk Savelberg, the Dutch chef. OP needs to get out more.

YellowDots · 02/01/2024 19:24

You can hardly believe that in 2024 there are still people who think that anything that isn't British is 'made up' and 'ridiculous'.

cakeorwine · 02/01/2024 19:25

I think it's named after a Dutch weatherman.
There was an article on PM today about how they names storms.
Ireland, the UK and the Netherlands submit names.

SmallGoddess · 02/01/2024 19:26

catwith9lives · 02/01/2024 18:37

Why on earth do storms need names? Why are we personifying the weather?!

I believe that the original rationale (with hurricanes in the US in the sixties) was to help with insurance claims when there was more than 1 storm close together. People would be clearer about which storm blew their roof off if it had a name

ClairDeLaLune · 02/01/2024 19:26

I’ve voted YANBU because I really want you to phone the Met Office up and tell them off!

Aha it was Henk what did it guv!

Hiphopopotamonster · 02/01/2024 18:36

Ridiculous because it’s foreign? Or because you haven’t heard of it?

The storm name is not the ridiculous sounding thing here

Besides which, with the regularity storms are arriving, we'll probably need to think about inviting India and China to contribute names soon.
