Booked Magaluf holiday for family??

saveplanet · 23/12/2023 08:05

I have lived in the UK for the last 10 years, I never heard Magaluf has a bad reputation. I booked an all-inclusive family holiday in a resort in October ,about 500m from the main Magaluf beach.
While I was researching I found that this town has a really bad reputation. Please reassure me, or do I need to get this changed?
I am very stressed out.

I have only paid a deposit at 1 am this morning.

I'd stick with it, it's nowhere near the strip which is the only unpleasant bit. In answer to several PPs speculating as to when people were last there is was July and August this year for me.

aintnospringchicken · 23/12/2023 12:50

We went to Shagaluf Magaluf to see the pirate show.We were staying in Cala D'or and were extremely thankful that we were. The few hours we were in Magaluf were enough. The show was excellent by the way.

I have spoken to jet2 and I can change it by tomorrow morning.
I am struggling to find other places. I have to increase my budget to £1000 and have 5 days.

Are you looking for another resort in Majorca?

CoatOfArms · 23/12/2023 17:13

Where EXACTLY are you staying? We were in Cala Vinas last summer which is the next cove south along the coast from Magaluf and completely different. We walked 15 minutes into Magaluf one morning and had a coffee in a beachfront bar, was very quiet and lovely but it was about 10am and the party people had probably just gone to bed. There are a couple of more upmarket hotels to the south of the main town, I think one was a Dreams or similar. The main town is full of cheap hotels and cheap british/german/dutch themed bars, burger restaurants and kebab houses.

I had a great holiday there when I was young ,free and single
But yeah I wouldn't take children there.

Are you going in October half-term OP?

Honestly, it will be fine. It's so late in the season that a lot of the strip will have shut up shop for the winter, and the drunken crowds of the summer by and large gone.

Please don't stretch your budget uncomfortably or cut back your holiday on the say-so of some people who experienced the resort at a different time of year or in a different decade, or who haven't been at all.

CoatOfArms · 23/12/2023 17:18

Having now read the thread properly, Magaluf in October is not a problem, it will be quiet.

Also Magaluf is a bus hub for the routes on that part of the island, you can easily get a bus from there into Palma city which is gorgeous, takes about 30-40 minutes.

Comedycook · 23/12/2023 17:19

I'd avoid the main strip...but the rest is just lively. I've seen families there. The beach is absolutely lovely

Amba1998 · 23/12/2023 17:24

I’d be prepared that it is in no way like Cala Dor. Not even comparable. I’d be fairly disappointed going from Cala Dor to Magaluf

DidiAskYouThough · 23/12/2023 17:27

@CoatOfArms she’s written the hotel name twice

saveplanet · 23/12/2023 17:28

@FettleOfKish yes we have booked for half term

The closer deal I am getting is Menorca for five days around that budget-Punta Prima.

It's the very last week of Majorca's season and will be very quiet. If anything I'd be more worried that you might find a lot of things closed, than about Magaluf being in any way rowdy.

But, your hotel is open and you're all-inclusive so fewer bars and restaurants shouldn't be an issue.

MaryActsLikeSheDontCare · 23/12/2023 17:40

Have a look at Alcudia.

saveplanet · 23/12/2023 17:40

@coalofarms I did look around Magaluf - really pretty villages are half an hour drive

We have been to Punta Prima! It is VERY different from Magaluf. Very quiet. One or two bars but no young party places at all. We had a lovely holiday there but again October is right at the end of the season so some of the bars/restaurants may be closed. Easy to get a bus into Mahon.

Peepshowcreepshow · 23/12/2023 08:11

Given that it's out of season you may be ok, but I do not know what possessed you to book a holiday in the middle of the night to an unknown destination without so much as a cursory Google.
If there's any drinking vessels/kitchen equipment in your apartment/room DO NOT USE IT.

😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

saveplanet · 24/12/2023 08:52

Update: I have decided to keep the booking and planned to spend extra grand on exploring nearby villages so this way we can half and half time and still be able to explore lovely parts of Majorca.

OP posts:
saveplanet · 24/12/2023 08:54

Meant to say half-time in the resort and half of our trip exploring, but if put extra Grand in the resort than I would not have that spending money.
Resort sounds good and we are not planning to go around roaming Magaluf town

Excellent idea OP! Do spend some time in Palma itself as it's a gorgeous city, and if you'll have a car then a drive out to Valledemossa and/or Soller in the Tramuntana mountains is worth it.

FettleOfKish · 24/12/2023 09:06

Ps.. I wanted to be sure it was open that late in the season before I suggested, but it seems it is. The old wooden 'orange train' from Palma to Soller is a fantastic day trip, especially with DC.

rookiemere · 24/12/2023 09:06

Thanks for updating OP.

It makes sense to keep it, I doubt it will be party central at October half term and the other hotels in that chain get excellent reviews.

Next time do your research before booking Xmas Wink.

BeingGrownUp · 24/12/2023 10:00

I think that’s sensible OP. Guessing that the reason it’s so cheap is because it’s a new hotel and there are no reviews. So anything else of the same standard would be loads more expensive
