To buy a frozen pizza. Are they all rubbish tasting soggy messes or are there any that are any good?

OP posts:
Mammyloveswine · 06/12/2023 19:39

I like the ristorante ones! Yum!

Clevs · 06/12/2023 19:46

Tesco Finest ham and mushroom is our favourite!

We did have an Aldi 'takeaway style' meat feast the other day though which was quite nice.

I'm sorry to be "that person" but it really is incredibly easy to make pizza. And it freezes well,

it’s true but the point of pizza for me personally is that it’s practically no cooking and no washing after food, I don’t count switching on and off oven and opening a packet as a big job.
I have a pizza in my freezer for lazy emergencies 🙂

Crosta and Mollica are lovely!

Yes was gonna say this!

Neonttasselll · 06/12/2023 19:59

I think tesco and sainsburys do them too

CombatBarbie · 06/12/2023 20:01

The aldi ones are tasty, their fresh ones even better with the garlic n herb dip, cheesy garlic bread etc.... It replaced our domino night to save money.

Sgtmajormummy · 06/12/2023 20:06

For pure convenience you can even do thawed thin crust pizza for ten minutes in a non-stick frying pan!
A drizzle of oil, medium heat and a lid (or another inverted frying pan) on top. Crispy base and melted cheese.

Eddielizzard · 06/12/2023 20:09

I second the Co-op sourdough margarita - has pesto on it. Absolutely lovely

LeakyPipes · 06/12/2023 20:10

Crosta and Mollica are lovely!

Absolutely right! In a completely different league 😋

salamirose · 06/12/2023 20:12

Lidl do a nice one for 89p

LambriniBobinIsleworth · 06/12/2023 20:23

Any frozen pizza is elevated by going in the air fryer. You'll have to cut it up, but you'll thank me!

WalnutBlue · 06/12/2023 20:29

Costco pizza bases
Slap on sauce, cheese, chorizo or whatever toppings you fancy, stick in oven 20-30 min job done.

Redhothoochycoocher · 06/12/2023 20:49

Dr Oetker. Yum

mdinbc · 06/12/2023 20:52

I'm trying to get over the fact that people are serving canned beans with pizza. What on earth?

OP, frozen pizzas are a cheap and easy meal, there are loads of good ones. If you find the crust isn't cooked, try finding a pizza stone that you pre-heat, or you can find pizza pans with little holes so the crust is exposed.

GoingToInfinity · 06/12/2023 20:55

Going by this thread I must be common as muck. We have a Tesco frozen pizza usually once a week, with a side salad for balance. It's a perfectly fine, cheap and easy meal that my fussy DS will eat.
Sometimes when budgets are tight you need food that will fill you up that's convenient too.

Lovehearts82 · 06/12/2023 20:59

I like the chicago town tiger bread cheese one, i put my own spicy chicken and jalapeños on and its just like a takeaway pizza 🍕 😋 other than that i get the farmfoods ones for the family, DH loves the cheeseburger one

Nonoatchristmas · 06/12/2023 21:02

Not sure if it’s been mentioned, but if anyone is looking for a step up from frozen pizza but think Dominos or their type take the piss in price - I’ve benn really enjoying the Sainsburys £12 pizza deal. Two huge pizzas, two boxes of sides that cook 10 mins in the air fryer and a big dip.

Frozen pizzas, I love Iceland special ones. They have a bbq chicken and bacon one which is really good!

SecondUsername4me · 06/12/2023 21:04

Best easy pizza- buy a premade large naan. Smear of passatta, few slices of Parma ham and some olives and some mozzarella. Bake for about 10mins in the oven (or air fryer if naan small enough)

ShazzaF · 06/12/2023 21:05

It's not exactly gourmet, but for anyone who is interested in reducing UPF but needs/wants an 'emergency' convenience meal in the freezer, you may be pleasantly surprised by the ingredients list on Aldi's 'Everyday Essentials' cheese and tomato pizza - the one with the orange box. 97p!!!

ThePenIsBlue · 06/12/2023 21:07

Some of the messages explaining how to make your own pizza take longer to read than opening a box and putting a frozen pizza in the oven 🤣🤣🤣🤣

whhe you eat frozen pizza you’re eating it because you want something you can cook in 30 seconds as an exhausted parent. It’s the kid of thing I’d have looked down in my 20s - Id never eaten frozen pizza and cooked everything from scratch. Now I have 4 kids and I’m preeminently knackered. and I say that as a foodie who makes everything else from scratch. Including my own pizza, when I want to COOK MYSELF

gotomomo · 06/12/2023 21:09

The Lidl posh ones are ok, I like the fig and blue cheese - not a patch on freshly made but decent for a quick snack

SgtJuneAckland · 06/12/2023 21:13

I'm generally not a pizza person at all, but Dr Oetke funghi is something I can get on board with, it's so thin and mushroomy, I sometimes add extra thinly sliced fresh mushrooms drizzled with garlic oil. DH hates mushrooms he says I'm disgusting 😁

sparkedsparkle · 06/12/2023 21:14

Dr oatker ristorante

@NotFastButFurious I agree. It's worth making home made for the freezer though. The point is the crust- bought tomato sauce is fine. 5 minutes to make the dough in a food processor-10 by hand. Raise n the fridge all day. 10 minutes to roll out and shove toppings on. 20 minutes rest. 20 minutes in the oven. One to eat and one to freeze. Minimum effort. Scheduling rather than cooking!

You missed out the 15 minutes cleaning up the food processor, wiping down the sides, washing up the rolling pin and another 5 minutes moving shit about in the fridge finding space for said dough to rise all day. Not to mention all the space the baking trays take up when 'left out on the side to rest'.

purser25 · 06/12/2023 21:19

Crostata and Mollica I have just discovered are in the coop and not just Waitrose
