To buy a frozen pizza. Are they all rubbish tasting soggy messes or are there any that are any good?

The Aldi stone baked ones are lovely

@SurelySmartie I agree it's hard to make one as good as a proper restaurant one at home but mine are always better than supermarket frozen! I make the dough in a food processor in the morning, then rise it in the fridge all day. Worth a try!

Well that sounds easy for you, but not easy for us all.

I have 3 dc to get ready and out to the school breakfast club, a dog to walk then a 45 minute busy commute to be at my desk by 9am (and I'm a single parent). As much as I love the sound of spending my morning prepping dough for the evening dinner, it's not realistic. Unless I change my 5.45am alarm to an even earlier time

SurelySmartie · 06/12/2023 18:06

Ok I’m not near a Waitrose so don’t think I’m going to be able to get a crosta and mollusca. Think it might be down to goodfellas, ristorante or dr Oetker.

I want something thin not doughy, cheesy, quick but decent tasting!

@PuffPastryFluff Fair enough- but even I, with the attention span of a gnat, don't get bored rolling out two pizzas-one to eat and
one to freeze!

And if you have a husband and 4 kids who also want to eat???

WhichEllie · 06/12/2023 18:10

I’ve never had a frozen pizza that tasted good. I don’t even bother trying them anymore.

However I’ve discovered individual bagged pizza dough at the supermarket and now I make my own pizza all the time. They can be frozen and then you just toss one in the refrigerator to thaw. I dump the dough out of the bag and onto the pan, shape it, add my toppings, and chuck it in the oven.

CurlewKate · 06/12/2023 18:15

@NotFastButFurious I agree. It's worth making home made for the freezer though. The point is the crust- bought tomato sauce is fine. 5 minutes to make the dough in a food processor-10 by hand. Raise n the fridge all day. 10 minutes to roll out and shove toppings on. 20 minutes rest. 20 minutes in the oven. One to eat and one to freeze. Minimum effort. Scheduling rather than cooking!

Morrisons best. 2 for £6 currently.

I like making pizza but tbh it's a job for the afternoon and I have little free time.

Yep, Morrison's Best cajun chicken and sweet pepper is lovely.

Nothing wrong with frozen pizzas at all. My favourite is the Aldi sweet chilli chicken one and dh likes their calabrese salami pizza too.

I don’t do my weekly shop in Aldi but will make a special trip to pick one up if I fancy pizza for tea.

I might nip in after work tomorrow actually, you’ve made me want one!

I'm sorry to be "that person" but it really is incredibly easy to make pizza. And it freezes well,

So then you would be eating frozen pizza

funinthesun19 · 06/12/2023 18:23

Ristorante ones are nice.

Instinct1 · 06/12/2023 18:24

Iceland Woodfired ones are excellent and cook really well. The Mediterranean Veg one is delicious. Really good value.

supersonicginandtonic · 06/12/2023 18:25

Not frozen but I regularly go to Morrisons and get the ones they make whilst you're there and throw them in the oven for tea.

Colinorpercy · 06/12/2023 18:27

The Aldi specially selected frozen ones are great especially the nduja one-but they changed it a bit and it’s not quite the same as it once was. However the king of supermarket pizzas are the Asda ones from the counter, cannot beat an American sizzler, I’d have that over a Dominoes!

megletthesecond · 06/12/2023 18:28

This >> "LOL. I have never met a pizza I didn’t like!"

Same. I make one homemade pizza a week for DD but it does take about 30 mins for base and toppings and creates mess. The rest of us have a mix between frozen and chilled.

GnomeDePlume · 06/12/2023 18:29

I'm another Dr oetker fan. I don't like too much topping of any sort on my pizza

I don't think you're sorry at all. And it's not incredibly easy compared to just chucking a couple of frozen pizzas into the oven.

You can get some Crosta and Mollica ones in Sainsburys or Tesco.

Tbry · 06/12/2023 18:32

Of course they are fine why would they not be? Really quick and easy tea and cheaper than a lot of other meals. The 99p ones from Iceland are great with a big salad or chips and beans or frozen veg.

MyopicBunny · 06/12/2023 18:32

You could buy a fresh pizza that isn't frozen? But the frozen ones these days are usually nice and don't turn out soggy.

Pizza and chips??

PippyLongTits · 06/12/2023 18:35

Buy frozen pizza dough. You can defrost overnight or in the microwave. I get the kids to do the toppings 🧑‍🍳

Pizza and chips??

Of course, what’s wrong with that? A couple of slices of pizza, chips and veg. That’s a normal meal?

PonyPatter44 · 06/12/2023 18:35

Dr Oetker salami ones.... they are really salty, which I love.

I prefer the 'cheap and nasty' ones because I feel its less of a comparison to a 'proper' pizza, I love the fluffy based margarita pizza fingers or the Chicago town deep dish ones - served with baked beans and too much ketchup 😋

I feel the same! Happy to have a fluffy basic one when there's no effort or expense involved, it makes a proper one all the better and feel worthwhile. It's a twisted logic, but I stand by it.
