To wonder if we are all equal in Heaven

I was thinking about those that have never found love or who have loved and lost. And those that have lost a spouse who has passed away but have gone on to remarry - what happens when the person who has remarried dies and is reunited with former spouse? And then the other spouse dies as well. How does it go down?

Nothing happens. They’re dead

Lavender14 · 29/11/2023 21:16

I think heaven would kind of be beyond earthly dynamics and feelings etc.

Yep, this

In Catholicism there are levels in Heaven. But because we have been judged in the particular (individual) judgement. And have seen God - known as the beatific vision, and understand good is infinitely just then we are content with our place in heaven. Mary is the Queen of Heaven - which implies there are levels as she was also human (albeit without original sin as she is the immaculate conception)

KrisAkabusi · 29/11/2023 21:19

How can anybody answer that? Even if you believe in it, only one person has ever been there and came back and he wasn't very forthcoming with the details!

ilovesooty · 29/11/2023 21:19

Depends firstly on whether or not you believe in an afterlife.

That's not necessarily true, if you believe in NDE's then loads of people have died (briefly) and come back.

You go back to being a soul and all human aspects of ourselves fall away. So the dynamics of marriage (which is a man made construct) are irrelevant.

FieldInWhichFucksAreGrownIsBarren · 29/11/2023 21:21

Nope because there isn't such a place, when you're dead that's it.

Mojolostforever · 29/11/2023 21:22

I would like to think that we are reunited with loved ones, but my sense tells me that once we're gone, we have no consciousness, therefore nothing can happen.

We live on through passing our genes to our descendants.

(I can't possibly know, though, and nor can anyone else. No-one's come back to tell us what it's like).

Testina · 29/11/2023 21:23

Well, it’s all nonsense in my view.
But if you can stretch your imagination far enough to think the Heaven is not only a real place, but a place where we pick up our existing lives (just with happy vibes) then can’t you stretch your imagination enough to think none of that matters?

My second husband’s first wife and I would probably get on - we have the same taste in men, so there’s some common ground. Why would heaven have the same earthly blueprint of monogamous relationships anyway?

Why wouldn’t we all just chill together?

Thereissomelight · 29/11/2023 21:23

It’s an interesting metaphysical question.
I think we will be above such earthly needs. As there will be no more death, there’ll be no need for reproduction, so no drive to commit to a single partner to raise each other’s children. So no jealousy.

Testina · 29/11/2023 21:23

Heaven and NDEs?

Cheeseplantalltheway · 29/11/2023 21:24

Do you believe in heaven, OP?

If so, one view is as follows:

"For when the dead rise, they will neither marry nor be given in marriage."

AnneKipankitoo · 29/11/2023 21:24

Whatever you think

Heaven and NDEs?

I know right? Too much for some people 😋

OP posts:
sixteenfurryfeet · 29/11/2023 21:25

Either:

A - There is no such thing as heaven, it's all nonsense, or
B - We are all equal in the sight of God.

Take your pick.

3WildOnes · 29/11/2023 21:26

I dont believe heaven is a physical place. I believe our souls all come together in peace.

ManchesterLu · 29/11/2023 21:26

I believe that either:

  1. Nothing happens, because there's no afterlife, and we're dead (most likely) or
  2. Afterlife is a thing, but very much a result of your own 'energy', so people don't go to the same place, but instead imagine whatever they would like the most.
minipie · 29/11/2023 21:26

This is one of the many many reasons why the whole concept of Heaven doesn’t work.

To argue against myself - I suppose it could work if you think of Heaven as a state of mind rather than a real place. So if A married B and then C on Earth, then A could be with whoever they prefer in Heaven, let’s say they choose B. But that wouldn’t stop C being with A in C’s own personal Heaven. A bit like the Matrix where it’s all an illusion in our minds anyway.

Sausagenbacon · 29/11/2023 21:28

I believe that, just as the nature of God is beyond our comprehension, so is what happens to us after death. I.e. I believe there is an afterlife but I don't know what it will be like. And that's ok.

baileybrosbuildingandloan · 29/11/2023 21:28

Blazingunicorns · 29/11/2023 21:20

This is closest to my belief.

Dotcheck · 29/11/2023 21:28

I think in heaven there is no jealousy or possessiveness- just love.

Er - I think the pp was referring to Jesus!
