To not replace car seat after hitting a pheasant at 38 mph?

Guidance says any accident above 20mph means you must replace the car seat. Is it this same in this situation? Don’t really want to pay out again for another one.

Nope the car seat will be fine op

ACynicalDad · 24/11/2023 13:12

Did air bags go off?

CormorantStrikesBack · 24/11/2023 13:15

I hit a swarm of bees once when I was doing 70mph and lots of bees died. I didn’t replace the car seat.

Unless the pheasant was unexplicably the size of an elephant you'll be fine. The number of pheasants released for shooting in this country is absolutely ridiculous, its something like half the biomass of all wild birds. And they are stupid birds, all over the roads causing accidents, mad really.

Yes it is ridiculous. Some keepers take the time and effort to do some "dogging-in", where they chase back wandering birds away from roads and public rights of way to pens to keep them away from traffic (and predators). But other shoots just rear and release far more birds than they are ever going to need and so many of them just end up as roadkill.

Pheasant? Nah.

Cow? Yes.

Elephant? Definitely.

Size matters 😂

Did you mean to say peasant? This is MN afterall.

If it was a pheasant, unless you hit it with the car seat at 38mph, you'll be fine.

"Those damn peasants keep running across the road....it takes several swerves before I managed to hit one!"

😂

Hhhapp17 · 24/11/2023 12:52

@BrioNotBiro what did you do about the car seat?

I don't think it would have been attached to the bumper at the time 😆

LookItsMeAgain · 24/11/2023 13:26

BrioNotBiro · 24/11/2023 12:51

I hit a pheasant and it cracked my bumper! Maybe it was an armour plated one.

I'd be getting on to the manufacturer of your vehicle if a pheasant managed to break your armour plated bumper....

YABU. Of course you need to replace it Confused

Why???
Don't be daft!
Wouldn't ever have crossed my mind to replace for something like this

Caterina99 · 24/11/2023 13:35

Sadly if I had to replace my car seats every time I hit a pheasant or similar, I’d be getting new ones at least once a year, and judging by the amount of dead birds on the road, so would my entire village.

I do actively try to avoid them, but sometimes they literally just fly into the road in front of you and there’s nothing you can do

Verv · 24/11/2023 13:38

Nah youre fine OP.

divinededacende · 24/11/2023 13:43

This is absolutely the most "what he fuck?" title I've clicked on in a while. I had no idea what to expect. Wasn't disappointed.

Although it took me far to long to realise you're all taking about child car sets and not the ACTUAL car seat.

JanglingJack · 24/11/2023 12:45

Christmas dinner sorted.

Yep, although not much time - and too cold ? - for it to go properly gamey, I'd have thought.

I came here to say the same but you said it better 😂😂

isthismylifenow · 24/11/2023 14:35

I hit a cone at about that speed (it's a long story and no I obvs didn't see it) and I ended up dragging it all the way home under the car. I think the pheasant on the side of the road is a better outcome for it tbh.

I have never referred to Conegate as an accident though. So no, would not have thought to be replacing seats. It was and always will be, an incident.

enchantedsquirrelwood · 24/11/2023 15:22

It's all a con anyway. The car seat manufacturers just want you to buy their new ones.

See also cycle helmets.

I do realise that the plastic perishes eventually but a small impact is not going to damage the seat!

I'd have thought going over speed bumps is more impact than hitting a bird. Are you going to replace the car seats after every speed bump Grin

WrigglyDonCat · 24/11/2023 15:27

Car seat is fine.

The pheasant on the other hand definitely needs replacing.

Glarptip · 24/11/2023 15:32

Hhhapp17 · 24/11/2023 12:26

Thanks. The pheasant died so that’s why I felt it might have been more severe? my baby wasn’t with me at the time and it didn’t feel like a big impact.

Dead pheasants tell no tales.

You're in the clear.

coxesorangepippin · 24/11/2023 15:33

How is the pheasant now??

YoullCatchYourDeathInTheFog · 24/11/2023 15:33

How is the pheasant now??

Delicious.

Glarptip · 24/11/2023 15:39

Not saying the story isn't true, but there haven't been any peasants in this country, since the Middle Ages.

In other countries, they're all peasants, of course.

Pieceofpurplesky · 24/11/2023 15:56

The pheasants are revolting. Or something like that.

YABU. Of course you need to replace it Confused

Only if it was a concrete statue of a pheasant.

BertieBotts · 24/11/2023 16:12

You could check with the manufacturer if unsure.

If there was no damage to the car then I wouldn't have thought the car seat will need replacing.

However the FB groups will say you need to replace it if anyone so much as farts near it.
